September trips

ImageImageWell, we have had a lot of fun this month! Since Addison is in year round school now, we decided to take advantage of the time off. We first went to Jackson and Yellowstone for a long weekend with Robert and Julie. We had a really good time! We visited Old Faithful, hiked around and took a boat ride across Jenny Lake, and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors. The weather was so nice and crisp in Wyoming. Bo had to work a little bit while we were there, so I took the girls to walk around and then play at the park. They loved being outside and wanted to know why we couldn't just stay in Jackson "for a month or two." Oh, to be a kid and play allImage day!!! When Imagewe got home, we tried to get back into our routine by going to preschool, dance classes, tumbling classes, violin lessons, dentist appointments, family pictures, playdates, etc. Sure enough our next trip snuck up on us which threw us off our routine.

On September 20 we went to "The Happiest Place on Earth", yep, Disneyland! We had an absolute blast!!! The kids had a great time too!  We went to Disneyland and California Adventure for 3 days. It was a nice time to go! The weather was perfect and we didn't have to wait in line for longer than 20 minutes for any ride.
ImageMia was a couple of inches shy of getting to go on the "big rides", so Bo and I got to take turns taking Addi on them. Mia didn't mind too much and says that her favorite rides were Dumbo and The Matterhorn. She also loved watching the shows. She was able to participate in one of the shows and came home with a personalized drawing by one of the Disney animators and signed by Cinderella herself! Brave little Addi went on the Tower of Terror 5 times and it became her new favorite ride. After going on it 4 times with Bo, she finally talked me into going on it also. Once was enough for me!

First days of school!

Image
Addi started first grade on July 28th! It was so hard sending her to school for the WHOLE DAY! I can't believe she is already 6 years old!!! I was concentrating so hard on being strong and not crying (in front of her at least) when we took her to her first day. I forgot to take Mia's feelinImagegs into consideration and when it was time to say goodbye, she was so sad. She said, "Don't go to school Addi". When I saw her bawling, I lost it also. I eventually got over it, but I miss her so much during the day. After a few days Mia got used to it also. She realized that she got to be "Mommy's girl" for the whole day. Addi'Images favorite thing about first grade is school lunch! I guess it is now "cool" to eat school lunch. I told her that she needed to take cold lunch a couple times a week so she could use her new Hello Kitty lunchbox that she wanted soooo bad! She is doing so well in all her subjects and her favorite is math. She has made a lot ofImage new friends and has a new "best friend" each day.

Mia started her first year of preschool on August 26th! It was so cute, but I really wanted to stay with her at school. Since she is my baby, I wasn't ready to let go of her yet. She was totally ready to let go of me, though! She told me that I didn't need to walk her in on her first day because she was a big girl! She was disappointed when she didn't get any homework and wants to know why she can't stay Imageand eat lunch at school like Addi. One step at a time, Mia! She just wants to do everything that her big sister does.
My two school girls-how crazy!!!

Summer

Yes, I am a slacker!!! I thought I would keep this current, but apparently not. Here is a quick update of our lives:
ImageImageThis summer was very busy and fun! Bo and I started it off by taking a weekend trip to San Francisco (a delayed anniversary trip). It was great fun! We got to do things that you can't really do with two little ones. We shopped, went to dinner, went sightseeing at Alcatraz, and rented bikes to ride across the Golden Gate bridge. Well OK, we didn't make it all the way across(my fault, not Bo's) but it was still really fun. We also got to visit my aunt and cousins while we were there. We don't get to see them as often as we like, so we had a really nice time!Image

In JuImagene, we celebrated Addison's 6th birthday. She wanted to have a friend's party at the Build-a-Bear workshop, which was quite fun! The Imagekids decorated bears, took funny pictures, and then came back to our house for treats. Addi had a blast! We also had our family over for Hannah Montana cake and ice cream. She is sure is spoiled! Addi also performed in her second violin recital. She is a born performer and did a wonderful job!

Mia made heImager debut playing soccer this year. Addi also played on an older team. Mia didn't enjoy it as much as we thought she would, but it helped having aImage best friend on the team. Addi enjoyed it quite a bit and I think that was due to Daddy being her coach!!! It was so much fun watching Bo coach a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds.....talk about patience! Thank you to all those who came to support the girls. It meant more to them to have friends and family there, than to actually play soccer!!!

ImageSince school was out, I decided to put the girls in swim lessons. They did their lessons every Imagemorning for 9 weeks and made great progress. They both swim like little fishies now! After lessons they would beg to go the neighborhood pool, or Grandma Julie's pool to do more swimming. After wearing out three swimsuits each, you'd think that they would be sick of swimming, but they still aren't! Kids will be kids.

Bo has also been keeping busy this summer. He has riden in 3 bike races, and done 1 triathalon so far. I think he is crazy, but I am glad that he is passionate about something that promotes good health. He has managed to get me mountain biking, but I don't think I will ever be a road biker (he thinks I am afraid of the toe clips, but it's mostly the bike shorts that frighten me)! Bo has also managed to be on a softball league with his brother Natey this year. He had to miss some of the games, due to his travel schedule for work, but the girls and I enjoyed coming to watch the games that hImagee did play. His team ended up taking first place! Way to go!
Between sports, we managed to squeeze in a bunch of play days. We went to Lagoon twice, camped a few times, went to the planetarium, Discovery Gateway, and just hung out with our cousins and friends. It was nice having Olivia and her family in town to play with. My friend Krystalyn and her new baby, Kohen were also here for the summer and it was nice to spend time with her. Image
We have some exciting news in our extended family. The girls have two new cousins! Claire (Wyatt & Lindsey) was born May 12, and we got to meet her a few weeks later when they came to SLC for the summer. Boy, is she cute! We were sad when they left to go back to Boston. A week and a half later, Caitlin (Nate & Mary Ann) was born. We were lucky enough to meet her a couple minutes after she was born. It was so exciting, and she is a doll! All these babies are making me baby hungry, oh no!!!
Well, I have finally decided to sort of quit my job at Primary Children's. I needed to cut back my hours because of the kids school schedules and other activities. After chatting with my boss, we decided that I could quit my regular part time shift, but still stay on PRN (as needed). This has worked out so nice! I love being at home with the girls to play and stay involved in their activities, but I also get to work a few shifts a month. I really like this arrangment because I enjoy my job, have a lot of friends at work, and I don't feel like I'm giving up my education. It's pretty nice!

Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride 2008 - MS 150

ImageFirst and foremost - a special thanks to those who supported me in my fund raising efforts this year!

Last year I rode in the Harmons MS 150 - this year they changed the name back to the 2008 Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride - which brings a smile to my face, because the ride takes us through areas of Utah that my grandpa grew up in, and he would agree that it probably is the best dam bike ride ;)

This is a fantastic ride for a great cause! The group I road with again this year was the Lifetime Fitness Team - this is the gym our family goes to. We fielded the largest team this year with over 170 riders!!! All of us in those nice red shirts! Don't we look impressive!? As a team we've raised over $52k so far - and will likely go over $60k once the final results are in. Not too shabby for a second year team...

While up in Logan we heard about and saw some amazing people. One lady we met while riding with MS came in from New York to ride with sisters - she did great! Mike - the gentleman standing to my right has a brother who is in the early stages of MS as well - Dan is his name and he's an amazing father - 5 adopted sons, and his wife Jen just gave birth to another son.

All of us in the picture above live in the same neighborhood and we all ride to help fund research and programs that will help those with MS in life. Not only that but we've forged great friendships through our rides together over the past several months.

Anyone can ride - they have a 40 mile, 75 mile or 100 mile route on Saturday - and 40 miles really isn't that far on a bike when you have rest stops every 10 miles or so. I plan to do this again next year so let me know if you're interested!

My first blog (trip to Hawaii)

So I have been wanting to start a blog for quite some time now, but couldn't really justify it. I didn't know what I would write about until I started thinking about all of the wonderful places that our family has traveled. I usually send out a few pictures of our trips, but figured that by creating a blog I could talk about our fun vacations and also include the small (or large) things that are going on in our lives. Here goes:
Last month we were fortunate enough to take a family vacation to Hawaii. We visited the island of Maui and absolutely fell in love with it! We stayed in an area called Kahana, but we toured all over the island. The beaches were just beautiful and the weather was perfect, warm but not too hot. The Hawaiian culture and the people are always so welcoming and wonderful. Since the girls are such beach goers, we spent the majority of our time visiting different beaches. Bo and I were just as happy as they were to sit (and play) on the beach for hours and not worry about what we were going to do next. It was a very relaxing trip but we managed to do a few excursions while we were there. Since it was whale season, we took the kids on a whale watching cruise for a couple of hours and I was amazed at all the "whale action" we saw. We saw so many whales that the girls lost interest and wanted to know when the ride was going to be over so we could go back to the beach. We decided to drive to the Haleakala crater to check out the view. We went from sea level to 10,000 feet in two hours (not including the many potty stops)! It was a beautiful drive and the air was crisp like it is in our mountains back home. I was surprised at how well Addi and Mia did on the hike. It was very rocky, but they loved the climb and the adventure. We also visited the Maui ocean center (aquarium) which was very interesting and a huge hit with the kids. Of course we attended a Hawaiian luau as well and it was so much fun!!! It took place at the Hyatt Regency which is an amazing resort. The girls found a lizard while we were waiting to go inside and they we so worried that it was all alone. To this day, they still include that poor little lizard in their nightly prayers. Addi and Mia were also invited to do the hula on stage with the dancers. They loved it, and it was darling! As for the long flights, I was amazed at how well a 3 and 5 year old can do. My two little social butterflies made many friends on the way there and by the end of the flight they were entertaining the passengers around us with their knock-knock jokes. For the red eye flight on the way home I put their pajamas on and they slept practically the whole time. It was great!
Pics of our vacation are on the slideshow!
