Family and Friends

This weekend was awesome!

It started with Matt and I driving to Austin Friday night.  We met up with Cagney (& his mom and sister) and Betsy at Cagney's house.  From there we headed to Mangia's for pizza, which I had been craving ALL week!  We then of course needed some dessert so we stopped by Amy's ice cream!  We ended the night at Betsy's, intending to play Guesstures, but ending up watching hilarious YouTube videos.

Saturday morning we went out to La Hacienda RV Resort for the "Gunn Family Reunion" (Matt's dad's side of the family.)  There was a ton of food, which is always good, and I got to meet the rest of that side of the family, some of which I had apparently met at the wedding, but didn't remember :)

Here are some pictures to remember the day:

Cousins: Alan, Matt, Jimmy, Rachel and Jennifer (Amy was in the pool already)

we got to spend time with Martha too!

From there we decided to head to SA to visit our long lost friends TAngie and check out their new place!  We did a terrible job of documenting this part of the trip, but none-the-less it was super fun!  We went to dinner at Habanero's!!!!  Reid came along too!  We then went back to the apartment to watch "The Book of Eli" and Man vs. Wild on their extremely life-like HDTV.  We felt like we were on the set of the movie and in the wild with Bear.  Awesome!

Sunday was Father's Day, and since we were conveniently in SA we stopped off in New Braunfels to take my dad and Beverly to breakfast, where we again, ate too much (the chips were SO good!).  We then heading home and took a much needed nap.

Well, that about wraps up that weekend!  Another fun-filled, busy one!

Back track

So I've kinda slacked on posts for some big things that have happened, so here is a quick overview of the month of May:

May 16: First Annual Serpas Crawfish Boil.  So much fun, even though I'm no good at crakin' those shells compared to Chavanne!

May 26: We found out I passed the Audit portion of the CPA exam, which was actually the last test I took and the one I was most worried about.

May 27: We received an email that Matt's paper titled "SMALL-SCALE MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ALUMINUM AND TITANIUM ALLOYS " will be published in the Journal of Testing and Evaluation in the January 2011 issue (volume 39 issue 1).  Most master's students are not expected to publish, only PhDs......but Matt's a baller, you know!

May 28: We found out I passed the Regulation portion of the CPA exam marking my successful completion of the entire exam.  The answer to so many prayers!  All glory be to GOD!

May 29-31: Memorial Day Weekend/ Family Retreat at Camp Tejas. Always a wonderful time.  There are, of course a TON of great pictures from the weekend, but here are just a few.  We always love seeing the families and getting to catch up after a year a part.  It was especially fun to hear "words of advice for newlyweds".  Ever year we get to experience a great time and learn so much about how to raise a God-loving family.  We are forever grateful for the opportunity to learn from everyone there.

THE best catch of the weekend!

That about wraps up the month, as a said, a busy one!  We are looking forward to the rest of the summer.  It has already been a great start.  Coming up.....Gunn Family Reunion, Matt's Men's Fishing Trip, Anniversary trip to Houston, Moving Emily to SA, Mitch & Chavanne Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties, M&C Wedding, Megan & James' wedding all the while looking for an apartment (or house) in Houston!

Busy Week

Last week was a crazy busy week, well mostly just Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday we had to say "see you later" to some of the best friends we've ever had.  Tom and Angie moved to SA so Tom could start work at BakerRisk the following Monday morning.  We went with "the gang" (TAngie and Mitch) to Fish Daddy's for an amazing dinner and drinks.

We then tried to stretch the night out as long as possible by watching a moving and refusing to get off the couch to say bye.   Tom and Angie (TAngie) have been such a blessing, encouragement and model of God's love over the past year, and we could not have wanted to share our lives with anyone else (except of course the other friends we always hang out with!).  I know we will ALWAYS be great friends.  We are so excited for their adventures in SA and we hope their time there turns them away from the Mavericks and brings them to the "light", the black and silver that is!

Wednesday I left work, after stalling for a bit while the "flood of 2010" ran through central Texas, right along the path from San Antonio to College Station.  Luckily the storm and I were heading opposite directions, so it was only scary for a short bit of the drive.  It was all worth it though because when I get to SA we celebrated Reid's high school graduation!!

After dinner at my mom's house, graduation, dinner/dessert round two, I headed to Martha's to spend the night.

The next morning, I got up, met Reid, his g/f Megan, mom, and Aunt Michelle and Uncle Ron for breakfast at where else, Taco Cabana. Than headed straight for CS to make it back in time for Matt's thesis defense.  And what a defense!

Image

He did great!  They grilled him with some hard questions but he handled it like a champ and proved that he deserved his degree.  It kinda made me feel like my master's shouldn't have the same title as his (Master's of Science) since he had to work so hard for it.  Like the sweet heart he is, Matt assured me that I had worked hard over the past few years too, although I still think its slightly unfair to him :)  Here is Matt's advisor, Dr. Liang after she told him he had passed!

The rest of the week, Friday.....and Saturday too, we spent relaxing.  We took some much needed naps and spent some time at the pool and with friends.  We finished up with weekend with a 3.53 mile walk around.  It was wonderful.

oh....don't want to forget....Derek and Michelle welcomed their second child today too!  Kennedy Renee Walsh!  We are so excited for them!
