Settling in at Home

Meme and Grandpa had to go to Ft. Worth to be with Aunt Tamra for the birth of baby Lyla!! Nana is here taking care of us and Papa is coming on Wednesday to spend some quality time. Aiden is having a great time being the "Big Brother" and loves helping with Corbin. We are resting and getting all settled in and love having Corbin home with us. Here are a few pictures of the new little guy!ImageImageImage

Corbin's Story

***Warning - labor & delivery details ahead! I kept it very generic but the language is still there. =) ***

While appearing very similar to his brother, Corbin has already proved to be different! As many of you know, Aiden's birth story is much looonger! HA! After progressing to a 7 with Aiden I was given an epidural which stopped my labor. I then had to be induced with pitocin to start my labor again. On top of that, Aiden was 1 pound larger than Corbin and I ended up pushing for 2 hours with him. All in all, it took 11 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing to get sweet Aiden into the world. Corbin is very much the opposite.....

On Friday night, I had gone to bed around 10:00 pm. Marc was working his normal work schedule, from 6 pm to 2 am, and arrived at home around 12:45 am for 'lunch.' I woke up at 1:30 am to use the restroom. After that I walked to the sink to wash my hands and felt another small 'gush.' In my heart of hearts I knew what was happening but was in denial. I decided to change clothes and began folding a basket of clothes that was near my bed.....wasn't sure what else to do! Shortly after I began folding the load of clothes I felt yet another small 'gush'. At this point I knew. Marc walked into the bedroom, still in full police uniform, and told me that he was headed back to work. I said, "Well..........I am pretty sure my water just broke." Of course, this look of shock came over his face and he said, "Let me go call my sergeant." My bags were already packed and ready to go. By 1:45 am I had changed clothes again, Marc was changed, my bags were in the car and we were headed to the hospital, calling my family along the way. Marc's Mom came into town on Sunday, May 8th and has been staying with us. She was able to stay with Aiden while we made our get away. We arrived at the hospital at 2:00 am and went directly to triage. By this time I was beginning to cramp but nothing severe. They got me all set-up in triage and begin monitoring my contractions and Corbin's heartbeat. At about 2:45 am the triage nurse came in and said that the on-call doctor would be filling in for my doctor that night and the on-call doctor had sent a resident doctor to check my progress. During the check, they determined that I had progressed to a 6. By this point the pain had truly set in. We realized that I was there to stay and that the cameras were in the car! Marc knows how devastated I would be if we delivered a baby without the ability to take pictures directly after; so he ran from triage to the car to get the cameras. While he was gone, my labor went from bad to worse and reached the point where my contractions were one right after the other with zero break in between. There was no down side to the contractions for a breath. At the same time, my delivery room was ready and they decided to move me across the hall. By this point it was 3:00 am. When I arrived at my room, there were 4 labor and delivery nurses waiting for me. One was attempting to get me admitted while one was attempting to get my IV started and the other two were attempting to prepare the room. I kept telling them that I felt things were moving really fast but they had asked about my previous birth story and they continued to tell me that 'we had some time.' After my IV was in, I really felt like it was time to push and one of the nurses decided it was time to check me (Marc was back by this time!) After checking me at 3:05 am they determined that I was correct.....I was a 10! There was certainly no time for an epidural. This little guy was coming VERY quickly. I began to push at 3:10 am and our sweet little boy arrived at 3:30 am. Exactly TWO hours from the time my water broke at home! The pain was the most intense thing I have ever experienced in my life but I truly only experienced pain for 55 minutes and he was here. That's the way to go!!! We are sooo excited that he is here yet it still feels very surreal. Oh how we are blessed.

Marc and I had talked about how we wanted Aiden to be apart of the entire experience. So, Marc's Mom woke him up around 2:45 am and toted him to the hospital in his pajamas! Aiden was actually one of the first to get to hold baby Corbin! It was also good for me to have him there. He blessed me with a few comforting and sweet snuggles. Aiden was VERY tired that day and ended up taking a 3 1/2 or 4 hour nap, but it was worth it. He is back to normal now and all is well!

**Enjoy the pictures below. As you can see, I was pretty out of it after the delivery. Please remember that we rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night with no time for hair and make-up! I appear very disheveled instead of perfectly done like many of my sweet friends.....who will remain nameless. =)

Official Nursery Work Begins.....

Last week we were able to get the nursery painted! Step one - check, check! This week, Marc is picking up the furniture and assembling the baby bed. Once that is done we will begin bringing things down from the attic to be washed. After this week, I will complete all of the bedding (which is mostly done due to a few sewing parties I had with my sister!) and get all the decorations out! I can't wait to share the finished product. YAY! I have included a few pictures of the nursery painting project below. We had a 3 year old helper....please don't turn us in for child labor. =)ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Catching Up.....Again

It has been FOREVER since I posted an update to this blog! Wow....life has been so good but so crazy. Shortly after my last post I received somewhat of a promotion at work which definitely included more responsibilities. Quickly after that, my Assistant decided to leave us and move back home. So, I had to learn new responsibilities all while searching for and training a new Assistant. In the end it has worked out beautifully! In the midst of that craziness I found out that I was expecting our second child! I also learned that my sister was expecting her first child and we were due only a day apart! About a month later, our sweet Aiden turned 3 years old and had his first friend party. It was football themed and tons of fun. I made the cake again and of course, Aiden didn't eat any again! He promises that he will eat cake at his 4th birthday party. HA!ImageImage Later that month, Halloween came. Aiden was the cutest 3 year old hamburger that you have ever seen. That costume was a hit for Aiden and still to this day he will ask to put it on sometimes while he plays.Image Image

The next thing we knew, the holidays had arrived. We spent Thanksgiving in Houston and Christmas in Lubbock. Marc's parents, Gary & Julia, were able to make the trip to Lubbock for Christmas! Aiden had a blast having both sets of Grandparents at his disposal.

FINALLY after the holidays we were able to focus on getting ready for the baby, but boy did we have a lot to do. We started by putting all of the furniture from the guest bedroom on Craig's List. Most of it sold in a matter of days! We were able to donate the items that didn't sell, including the room decorations, to a group of apartment residents in Lubbock who lost their home due to a fire. Then we had to start the process of merging closets....YUCK! Marc has been banned to the guest bedroom closet until now! =) I had to clean out my closet to make room for Marc so that we could clean out the guest bedroom closet to make room for baby! After going through stuff for what seemed like weeks and after 12 or so trips to Goodwill (literally), both closets were completely organized and ready to go! However, in cleaning out the guest bedroom closet, we had taken away the home for a large pile of Police gear and gadgets that Marc must have but doesn't use everyday. SO, we made the decision to purchase a storage building for our backyard. The building finally came (Marc has worked very hard & it's a functional place that looks great!) and the pile of stuff finally had a home and NOW we could begin the process of painting!!!! In the midst of attempting to take care of these things, we made two trips to Fort Worth, one trip to Athens and Marc went on a week long mission trip to LA! So needless to say we have been chasing our tails!

I believe that brings you up to speed now! It was probably more labor pains than you cared to hear about, but you had to know the labor pains to appreciate the baby! HA! I will do my best to keep this thing updated, but I make no promises. We never know what life is about to hand us around here, and that is why I love it so!
