The Art Déco living room September 2025.

Image

This is my last creation, a living room influenced by Art Deco style.

The scene measures 49 by 41 cm. It could be a period room but some books are modern so it is probably owned by a contemporary amateur of this period who also is keen on Africa.

I tried not to clutter the room as this style is quite minimalistic, though I had dozens of ideas but when it's time to stop, you have to. So many roomboxes I see on Internet are too much furnished or there are so many objects that you can't see the room itself.

As there are few pieces of furniture of that period available on the market, I printed the chairs, desk and other pieces. I mean I used a 3d printer.

Though I know some people will say they criticize the fact that I didn't build the furniture or the objects by myself.

But without 3d printing, I would have been unable to create this scene. Few people can afford to buy real miniatures made of wood and brass made by true artists.

They often think that you choose a photo, press a button on your printer and here we go! They're wrong! It takes hours to create a file and hours to learn how to use a 3D printer and print something.

The light comes from the ceiling and is hidden behind the stucco cornice. I used a strip of LEDs.

I created a simple fireplace inspired from a real one I found on Pinterest. It is supposed to be granite....

I bought the fires screen from Viorica's shop on Etsy. She also creates Art Deco elements in her shop at very reasonable prices. They are great!

I also added a screen and created the window.

The sconces were made from parts I printed and the glass is made from a pen I cut in 2. In the process, I badly cut my finger with the table saw.......

Here are the chairs and the armchairs. I can't create files ready to print so I got them from an Australian graphist who does great pieces.

Then I built the bookcase, made the books and the record covers to fill it

Then I added a cabinet and objects of that period.

The room fits inside a black frame that, in my imagination, could be inserted in a wall, as they did in the Thorne rooms.

Now I have so many photos of Art Deco interiors that Im thinking of making an Art Deco bedroom. I'll keep you posted.....

If you've enjoyed reading about my last project or if you have questions, please leave a quick message after this post. it will allow me to see how many of you found it. and tell me where you're from.

Post scriptum:

I am now retired and I have started creating my own pieces of furniture. They are chairs that you can easily paint and upholster. The design belongs to me so if you want, you can buy them.
There are ____ designs. You will get them ready to paint and cover.
If you can't do it, I can do it for you at an extra cost.
The price of each chair is moderate to allow more amateurs to add them to their rooms.
Their price is 25 euros each, primed without shipping. You need to paint it and upholster it with the fabric of your choice.
I can also print fabric too if you wish and upholster your chair.

Updates on the medieval hall

Before leaving France last month, I added wood panels to the medieval hall. They were designed by Arjen Spinhoven, who created them for this room. It gives the room more warmth and authenticity, I think.

Le bistrot and the Japonese room.

Last month, I decided to recreate a French bistrot. In my mind, it was a small local café, like thousands we had in France. Most of them have disappeared today. Before the 70's, almost every street had one bistrot or more. Workers would go there before work for a glass of wine. At lunch time, neighbours and friends would gather for an "apéritif", and later people would come for a "café noir" we call espresso today. Amazone didn't exist then...

There was one opposite the house where I grew up. I can remember its odor, even 60 years later. That bistrot was also a small grocery store.

Some tables, chairs, mirror, a counter and shelves. That was it, no juke box or TV screen. Large cafés sometimes had a French billiard.

This is my bistrot...... Do you like it?

And the last one.... I created the main room of a Japanese house. I have never been to Japan but I searched Pinterest for pictures. Most of the structure is wood and rice paper. While I was building it, I learnt a lot about Japanese houses.

Some Japanese on Instagram told me that it really looked like an authentic Japanese room... Here we go.

The medieval suite

Hello everyone, I've just realized I haven't posted anything for months.

Is that another Post-Covid effects? I noticed that the number of posts of miniaturists has dropped enormously.

Have people lost interests in blogs and prefer Instagram with shorter posts and more pictures.

May I ask you something? If you read my post, could you please send me a "I still follow your blog" message in the comment section? That will allow me to decide whether I stop or continue posting on ajarnpatrick.blogspot.com.

Do you remember the medieval cuisine? Then, I added the main hall and the bedroom.

I tried to recreate the atmosphere of medieval French chateaux which are located in the Loire valley, where I come from. Was I succesful? I don't know. What do you think?
