The Moat's bedroom

Hello and thanks for all your comments about my last post. I really enjoy hearing from you all.

Today I want to share with you a new project , the Moat's bedroom. I have never seen the room itself but I know the Chateau de Villandry and its magnificent gardens. It's near my hometown, Tours.

So, let's start with some sketches, that was yesterday evening.

I have a picture of the room on my computer's screen in front of me but no measures. I have to estimate...

The second step today was to draw the blue print on the white plastic board, it's 3 mm thick, so I can cut it with a cutter ( not easy but possible)

Now I start cutting the double doors, there are 3 in the room.

Now  let's have a look at the room, back wall and left wall. There is a window on the left.

I can't do the mouldings for the doors, so I just use the Dremel to smooth the edge of the inside panel of the doors. ( Sorry I don't know how to explain in English) These doors are temporary. I really want to do something better)

Now, I have divided in 2 mouldings I found at the Thai DIY called TOA here. They are the smallest I can find here and there are shops selling miniature mouldings in Bangkok.

I sometimes order supplies from Internet but shipping from the US really cost too much. So I will use my mouldings for the panels, even if they are a bit too thick. 

I use my (homemade) table saw and I am happy to say that tonight I still have my 10 fingers!)

Then each moulding is cut and fit in the wall panels

glued in place with UHU glue (because of the plastic, the other glues I use don't work)

And I do it again, and again, and again

Then I glue hinges on the door and install it.

The next step,  I spray grey primer on the wall because otherwise the acrylic won't adhere on the plastic I use, and then the wood mouldings..disturb me to get an idea of the project.

It looks OK... Let's try with a chair...

It works...

Well, that was one day's work in Thailand ( I mean a day off, I didn't have class today because of midterm exams)

Now, the next step will be to fill the gap between the mouldings and the sides. I'll inject latex glue with a syringe. It works really well for me and I am not good at using filler...

Then I will paint the panels, two colours as in the real room

Then I will do the alcove and the two side walls but not tomorrow, because tomorrow... I am working, LOL

First is the laundry shop, and the milliner's room on the 2nd floor, the funeral parlour, the tailor's  and the "Articles de Mode" shop to be opened soon. The hats are ready, my friend, Roseline, from Tasmania, is making the counters.

These are the houses I have built in 2013 and 2014. And there is the Chinese pharmacy too....

They have kept me very busy, days and sometimes nights too, LOL. There is still a lot to do but I am quite happy with my creations. They have kept me company for hours.

I want to thank all of you who have followed my blog, commented on my posts. 
Thanks for your supports and your words of encouragements. They really have stimulated me when I was cornered.

I also love reading about your creations in your blogs, so keep posting, please!

I have many ideas for 2014. Maybe room boxes, because I haven't got  a big house here so if I don't want to live among my creations, I have to reduce the size.

So, Felix, what are we going to start with this year?

The shop front of the Funeral Home didn't match with the shop so my plan is to build another shop house to relocate it and use the first building for a French shop selling "Articles de Mode" fashion items, right? hats, parasols, gloves, handbags,.....

So during the Xmas break, I made a very simple shop front and painted it black. 

Then I cut the walls and the floors and started to build the shop house. To make it look different from the other shops, I chose to have a balcony and a French door. A few years ago, my brother who builds models for architects in France had ordered these balconies and there was one left. Isn't it beautiful?

I have the plan to design more and sell them in my Etsy shop.

I made the stands for the balcony from polystyrene, I carved them and covered with wood glue to make them strong.

Then the first layer of Gesso...

Then I built the rest of the shop with a ...flat roof. I had a balustrade in mind...

Then the painting of the front and the ageing process started. I like that step but it always makes me very nervous as it can quickly become a disaster....

Then I designed, cut and painted the corner stones

Then I aged the balcony and the supporting elements

Then I started thinking about the roof, a terrace with a wooden balustrade.

When I received the balustrades from England, I built the three stands that connect the elements of the balustrade together from polystyrene as well.

Then I used gesso again, to fill in the wooden elements and aged the whole thing

It looked a bit empty so I added three French urns and aged them the same way. I use acrylic and a lot of water.

But I was not completely happy as it still looked too empty and  I built a roof covered with (fake) zinc in cardboard, covered with paper and aged it (to be finished).

Now this is what the façade looks like:

 Tiger, one of my 4 cats, inspects the new building, he seems to like it.

Now it's time to move the funeral home inside its new location.In color...
