ImageSun and wind on Lake Washington today!

ImageTravis on the trapeze keeping us from blowing over.

ImageHe thinks he's a bird......or something.

ImageIt got a little tippy!

We zipped back and forth across the lake for 18 miles reaching speeds of 10 knots (11.5mph) according to my little gizmo. Partially capsized a couple times (we managed to stay in it) and I lost my crew overboard only once. All in all a great evening on the water! Here's a clip of it:

Frankly Gina, with friends like these I don't see how you could possibly leave.
ImageYes, Laura and Tiana hosted a going away for Gina and let us all honor the 80's. The more I look at some of these pictures, the more I think I might leave too. Until I see the dork second from the upper left playing with his ghetto blaster; it's then I realize I might be stuck.

When there is wind (not pictured); it does sail!
ImageBut it doesn't float so well
Image
Kateen was brave enough to be crew on the first voyage. She might be thankful she made it back. I was warned and I think I know the problem so a little garage time will remedy this leakage. Really it wasn't too dramatic, it took two hours to fill about half the insides of the hull up with water.

Until a more successful sail.....Sincerely, Capt. Justinian IV
PS. I now know what about 80% of the lines do :)

Our land is still there!
Dave and I headed north and east for a couple days after Chelan convention just to check. One day was nice, the second day was very wet. But we crammed a lot into that day and it was well documented by Dave HERE and HERE.

My craigslist browsing found success....an older International 470 class sailboat.

ImageA full evening/night trip to get this beauty home from Gig Harbor

ImageAnd the first person to tell me what all these lines are for can be my crew! Yikes! An FYI, the crew hangs out the side of the boat in a trapeze harness as seen in the YouTube video clips below. I think there needs to be a certain amount of trust involved.

Any crew volunteers need to be willing to swim. Small sailboats capsize, that's just part of it. The clip below pretty much demonstrates this :)
