Fathers Day

So, in a few hours it will be Fathers Day...I have no father here in the country, but I have lots of people who have stood in while my dad has been gone. I know that having my dad just at a nine hour time difference and a 28 hour plane ride away is not that bad. Some of you, including close friends of mine, have recently lost your fathers to death and I cannot even imagine the pain that you feel at knowing that on this earth you will not see your father again. A father is an interesting thing, especially for a daughter (or maybe just especially for me). I have always been a daddies girl, and I love it. When I was born my dad tells me that he played the song My Girl by the temptations over and over and over. I can't hear this song without crying...sentimental, I know!

So, this little tribute is for my dad who just had a birthday and now will be celebrating fathers day away from his little mess (that is me).

20 reasons why my dad is the best dad, my best dad ever (in no apparent order):

1. He listens to me when I cry, even if it is on speaker phone.
2. He loves his "relax the back chair"
3. He can find any scripture reference at any time, in a short amount of time.
4. He knows every song ever written between 1954-1980-something(I swear it is true. . . if you don't believe me refer to the earlier post about music in the Ostler Home)
5. He takes his vitamins because my mom makes him.
6. He lets you scratch his back.
7. Three squeezes when you are holding hands means I Love You -- for those of you who think that holding your dads hand is weird rest assured that it was probably more a technique to thwart children who can run wild when they are small....we don't still hold hands.
8. He would hang up on me when I went to Ricks College and called home wanting to come home with this exact phrase : "Have you made any friends? Met three new boys? Call me when you have!" Click....I never thought I would thank him for this, but here I am doing it.
9. He helped me with my homework for lots of years.....The only person who truly has the "right" to call me Master Amber, is my dad since he is the one that helped me through all those treacherous years of schooling.
10. He read to us when we were children. . . the Chronicles of Narnia, The Whipping Boy. . . on and on.
11. He makes you laugh when you think you might cry.
12. He is worthy to give me Fathers Blessings, and does whenever I ask.
13. He would take us on motorcycle rides to cut cat-tails by the lake. We didn't wear helmets and we are all still alive.
14. He loves Andy Grifith :)
15. He would take us to Garage Sales growing up to hunt for "good books" (this translated into church books for him and any piece of junk that we thought we needed).
16. He plays the piano, and loves to listen to me play...thanks for teaching me dad.
17. He would carry us in from the car when we were little, even if he knew we were just pretending to be asleep.
18. He listens (and can shop ebay at the same time supposedly)
19. He loves to go to lunch if you just show up at his office....he doesn't even mind leaving yesterdays leftovers in the BYU Bookstore Bag that my mom packed for him in the morning.
20. He is my dad. :)

Dad, I love you and miss you! Lots more could be added to this list, and I will try to add more but for now just know that you are the best dad I could have ever asked for. Love your AmberLynnie!

Tag, I'm it!

I have to admit, that usually I am pretty good at the game of tag, and have NEVER been tagged before! Tamarah got me! So, here it is. . . .

7 things about me!

1. I love Ann Taylor. With my whole heart I love Ann Taylor. I know that it is kind of a "high maintenance" store, especially for someone who teaches kids who touch her with sticky hands all day. Don't be alarmed by the price tags. . . I try to shop the sales. I just love to be dressed up!

2. I could swim all day, every day. Now, this doesn't mean I am a swimmer -- it means I love the water and the sunshine. In fact, I probably own more swimsuits than one girl should ever own, and I just bought new one this past weekend. Don't worry mom they are all modest.... I actually have the swimsuit below from Modbe! :)

3. I teach piano and violin lessons (although not consistently in the summer). It keeps my musical skills up to par and it is fun!

4. BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS! I own thousands of books. This obsession with reading started early on in my life. Thanks to my mother for teaching me to read before I started school. I always have 2 or 3 books on my "reading list" and a few more just waiting. I have been known to return books to the bookstore if I don't think they are appropriate, and they do take them back!

5. I want to be a pioneer. I love pioneers. . . I think I could have crossed the plains, churned my own butter, worn a bonnet and been happy. I still own a bonnet and sometimes I wear it just to get a good laugh. My mom made me a "bonnet" when I was little. It was blue and white checkered and I wore it everywhere.

6. I have an unhealthy obsession with things matching. I can't eat dinner unless the plates match. Sometimes just to bother me my family will use all non-matching dishes. Along those same lines, I also hate it when cupboard doors get left open....weird, I know!
Image7. Pink is my favorite color. I am a girly girl for sure! Jeff thinks I wear pink everyday. . . that isn't true, but I do love pink and flowers, and smelling good and lots of frills! Fuschia, Magenta, Bright Pink, Light Pink. . . anything goes.

I tag: Ann-Marie, Jill, Lexie

Exercise. . .Is it Fun? or is it Not?

EXERCISE!!!!

So, I am in the constant debate about exercise. Here is a little bit of what goes on in my head each morning when I think about exercising lately:

5:30 -- "Oh no! I slept in and missed the spin class. I guess I'll just run in a half hour or so"

6:00 a.m. -- "hmmm, it is my summer vacation, maybe I should sleep in since I already missed the spin class. . . . oh, but I should get up and exercise. I always feel better when I exercise. Maybe I should wait until it is sunny so that I actually want to be outside, or maybe I should exercise now before it is too hot"

6:05 -- "What do I want to wear today? Do I have to exercise to feel like I can wear that outfit? Maybe I should buy a scale. . . I haven't weighed myself in a while.

6:10 -- "I did run yesterday, maybe my muscles need a break!

6:15 -- "I better get into a habit for the summer or else I will never go. . . I think I'll buy a new pair of running shorts then I will want to exercise. Better yet, I'll sign up for a 1/2 marathon then I will HAVE TO run! "

6:20 -- This is when I finally get up and go running or ride my bike or whatever it might be!

Lets be honest I ALWAYS feel better when I exercise, but I just wish I had someone to run or ride with. . . . oh well! Let me know how you feel about exercise!
