Jared's 40th Birthday!

For Jared's big 4-0, we decided to fly to Vegas, just the two of us.  Teya stayed with her friend Abby and the boys stayed with Melissa the first night, then my parents watched them all at our house for the next couple of days.  When we were packing, Jared said that he saw the 3 books I had packed and thought of taking them out of my suitcase and hiding them, so it was pretty hilarious when I came across this meme while we were sitting in the airport, no more than an hour later:

When we got to Vegas, we went out to eat, got ice cream at Dairy Queen, checked into our hotel.

The first hotel room we were given smelled SO SO strongly of air freshener that it made us cough and we could hardly breath!  We had to run back out into the hallway, take a deep breath, cover our nose and mouth, then run back in and race around the room looking for the air freshener that was causing this.  We couldn't find it, so we went down and told them we needed a different room.  We had to sit and wait for a while for one, but it was worth it.  Our room was awesome!  It had a bedroom that was seperate from the living room, a full kitchen, dining room, fancy bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, washer/dryer, etc.

We went and walked around on the strip twice while we were there:

This was what it was/is like walking anywhere with Jared.  He is the fastest walker on the planet and is always about 5-10 feet in front of me while I run to try and keep up.

His actual birthday was the day after we came home.  He worked that day so he was too tired to go out, so we just did a cake and present opening celebration that night.

Visiting Ma and Pa

On July 8th, the kids and I drove up to visit my parents at their camp hosting site in Midway. We went fishing at a stocked pond with live worms and FINALLY caught fish!!

My hat flew into the water! And Nolan caught it! Yes! This hat has seen some things!! It also blew over a cliff at Bryce Canyon, but barely over and Dallin found a long tree branch that a man used to get it for me.

We had a great time!

On the way home we stopped off at Dairy Queen in Orem. And...Teya left her phone on the table outside, which we didn't realize until we got home! We called them and they had found it, but we weren't sure if we could make it there before they closed, so they had to explain to Teya where they would hide it outside if they were gone when we got there. We got there after closing but they were still there cleaning up, so we were able to go through the driveway and get it!

End of May 2021

Image
One thing we always do with Marlow is educational activities, or school work. He's not in school but his mom wants him continually learning and growing. I LOVE doing the schoolwork with him, and its amazing to see him learn and remember math and other things.

My last day of work before summer break was also on the last day of school. My last time working with Marlow we went bowling. I sure love this kid!

Our strawberry plants started producing, and it was very exciting!

Teya dog-sat our neighbor's dog Cooper and he loved snuggling the legs.

For Memorial Day we went to the Provo Cemetary again for their ceremony. It wasn't as impactful as the other times we've been (no 21 gun salute and the speech wasn't good), but I'm still glad we went. We brought flowers for the kids to each put on a grave that didn't have flowers.

Our first trip to 7 Peak / Splash Summit this summer was on Memorial Day after the cemetary! We got season passes this year and planned on getting good use out of them!

I took the boys fishing at the harbor in Saratoga but we didn't catch anything, AGAIN. We've never caught anything. Then that chair that Dallin's sitting in blew into the water when he got up and we lost it, haha.

Jared's grandma, Ethel Johnson, passed away on May 27th. She had just moved out to Utah and into an assisted living facility in Lehi.

The talks at her funeral were wonderful. Each speaker spoke on 1/3 of her life (beginning, middle and end) and all talks were amazing!! I learned so much about her that I didn't know, heard so many funny and interesting stories about her.

All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were there singing 'Families Can Be Together Forever'.
