Forest Research

We proudly continue the legacy of our founder Frank Egler through ongoing scientific research in the field. We maintain an archive of his published works and correspondence.

Here on this website, under Frank Egler we highlight his scholarly works in the Publications and Manuscripts section, and in the Correspondence section. Under Research, we highlight his and others’ Forest Succession work, the work of the Aton Forest Fellow and some field work related to Fauna, including lichens, and Flora at Aton Forest.

Aton Forest Fellow Research

Dr. Frank Egler created the Aton Forest Fellowship in 1981 to provide for the continued ecological research that is philosophically compatible with his mission to do holistic, long-term, low-impact, low-cost research on forest succession.

Charley Eiseman was named Aton Forest Fellow in Jan 2022. He studies bugs & insects. Lead author of Tracks & Sign of Insects and Other Invertebrates (Stackpole Books, 2010), he has been studying leafminers intensively since 2011. He is a freelance naturalist based in western Massachusetts.
