ImageWe are so glad to finally have our deck done. Once the weather warms up a bit, we will have to condition and seal it. I am so looking forward to the many hours we will enjoy using it.

Pumpkin Season

Image
Today was the opening of the Pumpkin Patch. It has been fun to watch the patch develop over the last few weeks. So when Jake, Jonah, Caleb and Logan came over for the morning while Rey and Amy went to the Temple for a wedding, I took them to the patch.

ImageLogan just loved getting on the tractors.

ImageHere is Caleb trying to drive probably the oldest tractor.

ImageJonah liked the Ford tractor.
ImageJake also picked one of the oldest ones.

We were the very first customers to the Kunz's Pumpkin Patch this year. The boys got to pick out a pumpkin and had to carry it home. That proved a little hard for Logan, so he carried one of my 2 very small ones.

Once we got home, we traced faces of various designs on their pumpkins. They can carve it out later in the month so the pumpkin will last longer.

Fire in Herriman

Image
At 3:30 pm today a fire broke out at Camp Williams shooting range which is southwest of us just over the Oquirrh Mountains. Over 1200 homes have been evacuated in Herriman. We can see the fire from our home. I first noticed the plume of smoke when we came out of church. At first all that we could see was the smoke coming from the other side of the mountain. Then about 7:45 it came up over the ridge and is now threatening more homes at the base of the mountain.

We found out from our neighbors that the family that used to live
Image
in our home, the Shipley's, built a home in Herriman and have had to evacuate. A friend of our neighbors was evacuated and their home had burned.

Times like this make me think about what I would do if we needed to evacuate. I really need to give it some serious thought.

My Day With The Kings!

Image
Today I got to care for Katie and Cody while Lisa went with Kelly on a field trip to Park City where they went to the Olympic Park. We started our day playing with play dough, putting together a puzzle and coloring pictures. Then we spent some time outside playing on the swing set, well, they got to swing, I got to push.

For lunch we had chicken nuggets and grapes. I actually had some and they are not bad, especially when you add a little ketchup.

After lunch we, well, Katie and Cody played on the Wii. Katie does pretty good with the games, but Cody needs to practice his ski jumping. He just kept turning into a snowball. I guess it takes a bit more practice.

Once Lisa got home, they got a Creamie for a treat and as you can see by the picture, they needed to wear the aprons. Lisa taught me how to make peach pie filling from her fresh peaches. I even got to take 3 containers full, enough for 3 pies. I can hardly wait to make them into pies.

We picked up Kelly from school and a little later we went to a pizza place for dinner. They had the best bread sticks that are served twisted on a wood stick. The pizza was very good, too.

This is what is best about being a grandparent. Getting to enjoy these precious blessings and leaving the hard parts to their parents!

Sealing To My Parents

Image
Today, August 21, 2010, I was sealed to my parents after they were sealed to each other. What a wonderful feeling I had as I knelt across the alter from my eternal companion to take part in the sealing of my parents. My heart was so full and I could not prevent the tears of joy. Then with Tim and Lisa King as my parents, I was sealed to my parents. We also sealed my brother Donald and my sister Betty Jean to my parents. We now have the beginning of our eternal family. Those in attendance were: Alan and Sandra King, Lisa Janes, Tim and Lisa King, Jennifer and Vii Uigaese, Rey Marvive and a mother and her son.

After the sealing session at the Oquirrh Temple, we went home to a houseful of family Chris, Katelynn and Matt watched over Jake, Jonah, Caleb and Logan Marvive and Nathan Uigaese. Later, Amy came from work. She was tired and so all of the rest of us went to the South Jordan Recreational Center to go swimming. Lisa and I took pictures and just watched the kids. Once we got home, Ben had arrived from Elko, Nevada where he had had a business meeting.

We had barbecued hamburgers for dinner and spent the evening just hanging out together. Jen and Vii and Nathan went home. Amy and her family were planning to go home, but fell asleep and ended up staying the night.

Tama, May he rest in peace.

Image
Tama 9/30/1997 - 5/9/2010
Tama died in his sleep last night. I know it was on Sunday because I sat with him until near midnight. I just couldn't stay awake. I will miss him terribly.

I can remember when Amy, Chris and I drove to San Pedro to look at some puppies. Tama seemed to be the one that would be the best for our family. We took that small fluffy ball of fur home to Reno, who immediately became his mama and later his Alfa. Tama quickly learned that ladies ate first. He would patiently wait until Reno had her fill. She also would not take any guff from him. If he got out of line she would put him down. He would roll over and wine until she was finished disciplining him.

Tama was never an aggressive dog. Actually, if truth be known, he was a "wimp", but a lovable one. Doggy treats were his favorite meal. He loved popcorn, even though he didn't get it very often. He loved to be inside with the family. Up until a few days before he died, that remained his favorite place to be. He was good with the kids. When he got tired of their attention he would hide behind the couch, under the table or some distant corner.

I will miss him greatly. I am sure I will occasionally hear his scratching on the back door. I can't say that I will miss his bark, because he rarely barked.

Our family thanks you for 12 and a half years of unconditional love. Tama, you were the best!!!

Salt Lake Marathon 5K

ImageWe did it!!!
ImageToday was the Salt Lake Marathon. Jen & Amy decided to participate in the 5K portion of it. It started at 7:30 am at the Gateway in Downtown Salt Lake. This was the first one either of us have done and we were both Imageproud just to cross the finish line. Jen's time was 37:44 and Amy's time was 37:40. We also got the number narrowed down to how many females and males participated and from those numbers Jen was the 636th female and Amy was the 628th female out of 1239 to cross the finish line.
Image
We were soooo proud of ourselves. How many people would get up on their day off at the butt crack of dawn to exercise??? Pretty crazy but we did it anyways and we can't wait (well, our bodies seem to think otherwise) to participate in another one. We both have some other 5K events coming up in the coming weeks/months that we are going to participate in.

We have included a map and some pictures so you can see what we accomplished.

Just to update you on Alan's health. He is doing very well. Finally his blood sugar count is back in a reasonable range and his other numbers are doing better. He was up today and we walked the halls a little. Hopefully, he will be released tomorrow to come home.

Family Update

For those of you who have not heard and who check this blog, Alan has developed a new blood clot in his left leg and is in the hospital. Over the weekend he was experiencing some pain in that leg and so on Sunday we made a trip to emergency. I am so glad that we did. Alan was scheduled to fly to Philadelphia on Tuesday morning for his annual NSCAA Soccer Convention. Had we not checked out his leg, I hate to imagine what might have happened. After having an ultrasound, it was determined that the clot was high in his leg and he needed to be admitted so that he could be observed and receive the treatment he needed. At the same time, his blood sugar count was very high, so they are treating that as well. I am learning how fragile our bodies are and how so many things can be affected when there is a problem.

Alan is resting comfortably with no pain. He will begin getting up and walking a little today, which I am sure he is looking forward to. We do not know yet when he may be released to go home.

We thank all of you for your concern and prayers in his behalf.
