It's may!

So sorry to people who try to check my blog for updates... For those who talk to me occasionally, you might have known that I've been ultra busy at work! Perhaps at least 3 out of 5 days, I'll work in office till 10pm or later. Sounds bad? Well, at least I don't bring work home since I don't have a laptop! I leave my work when I leave office. Those who have laptops will understand what the opposite of what I mean.

Can't believe it's already may!!! My sis has finished her last uni exam. Oh man, I feel old.. Going to Japan with my family in a couple of weeks! Last family trip before we have our 3rd working adult (i.e. before 3 pple must coordinate their leave together).

Super looking forward to holiday! In the meantime, I have to work doubly hard for the time I'll be away! Haven't started on secondary appt project!!! Sighz...

Oh anyway, I had a super movie weekend!! Watched Ip Man 2 and Iron Man 2 yesterday with collleagues. Today, watched Ice Kacang Puppy Love, directed by Ah Niu. Personally liked Ip Man 2 and Ice Kacang best! Iron Man is not too bad too! But I like the main actor from Ip Man and all the actions. Ice Kacang is a very simple movie about a group of people in a small town in Malaysia, with all the big shot M'sian stars inside. No fancy high tech effects, but the plot is very heartwarming. Doesn't need much words to make one understand the plot or make one laugh! Seriously, sometimes after watching all the movies with high cost, lots of visual effects and made up of actors acting in front of a green screen with superimposed background, a change to simple but touching show is really refreshing..

Highly recommended!

1/4 less wise..

I'm blogging again!! Super free at home and can't go out. Been totally buried in piles of work for the past weeks/months, especially last week. Why? Cause our HUGE project is launching on 1 Apr, and there are still a million and one things to settle. So many that we have to prioritize which need to be done by 1 Apr, and which ones can wait. But then again, even the urgent ones aren't really that ready. Was working with colleagues till midnight and 1 am for wed & thurs. =(

Back to my main topic. Think my office's fengshui not very good this year.. I'm the 4th person to go for a op, although mine is totally minor. Just extracted my bottom left wisdom tooth yesterday. Don't know whether to say I'm decisive or just impulsive. Haha... Anyway this was what happened:

- Tue or wed: My bottom left gum area behind the last tooth (that can be seen) was feeling sore when I bite with it. Even with the softest food. Just shrugged it away because this occasionally happens from heatiness

- Tues/wed to fri: Gum getting more and more sore if I use it to eat. Tried to avoid that area as much as possible. Hurts when I use my tongue to poke it too..

- Fri night to sat morning: Gave myself the ultimatum. Drink a lot of water. If it still hurts on sat when I wake up, I'll see the dentist. Guess what? No-brainer that it still hurted. Called the dental clinic and made an appt

-Sat 11am: Saw the dentist and told him my gum hurt. He poke poke with his gloved finger.
D: Painful?
J: Yes
D: Done x-ray for your wisdom tooth before?
J: No
D (mumbling away): Cannot see your wisdom tooth now. You might want to consider doing a x-ray to see if you have any wisdom tooth. After that, if you have one, then you can decide whether you want to remove it. The gal that just walk out just got her wisdom tooth removed too. Some people go back and think. Can just take some medicine and see whether the pain will go away. But usually the pain will still come back. Some pple wait until very pain then come and remove the wisdom tooth. Some are already infected. If infected, then must operate twice. First time must operate to clean away the infection and stitch back. Then come back 2nd time to cut and remove the wisdom tooth and stitch back again. Must operate and go through the pain twice, not worth it. Then some people wait until so pain that the mouth is swollen. Swollen until they can't open their mouth. But cannot open mouth, how to operate and remove the tooth leh. Anyway, if you want just take the x-ray first then decide lor. X-ray full mouth is $45. Wisdom tooth surgery is one of the few dental items that can claim from medisave. You have medisave?
J (barely finished the word): Yes
D: Ok, if you don't have enough, you can use your parents' also. If you do xray on the same day as surgery, then xray also can claim from medisave. Different day, then xray cannot claim. So, you do your x-ray first?
J: Ok, see the x-ray.
D: Ok, you wait outside for your x-ray.

Yeah, so that was how the dentist helped me decide to do the extraction there and then. I must say that he's super persuasive. Was wondering whether to wait until the following sat because I have no time to take MC this week, but the 2 x operations and the swollen until mouth cannot open sounded really scary. Then again, I think 90% of you out there who goes to visit my dentist would probably make the same decision as me. Kudos to him..

Painful? Not really during the whole process. 4 jabs of anaethesia, which D was trying to encourage me before every jab. 'Might be a little painful. *poke* good you're doing fine.. very good'. But i thought it was weird at my 2nd/3rd jab when D said 'you're doing well, most pple would have screamed by now'. Couldn't talk but was thinking 'Those pple are crazy. Which sane person would even think of screaming? If I scream, my mouth and tongue will move and you'll most probably jab the wrong place.'

So here I am. Survived the poking, loud cutting sound to split the wisdom tooth into smaller pieces (I got my tooth back!). Some tugging here and there. 1/4 less wiser. No fever yet, but bottom left cheek is ultra swollen this morning. Looks like I put a hard boiled egg at that spot in my mouth.

Can't open my mouth very big yet.. Wonder if I'll lose weight weight, or just water. Had canto porridge for yest lunch and dinner (those soggy soggy kind). Having my soya beancurd today with a little bread. Waiting for my "mouse noodles" and ice cream (YAY!). Ok, I guess the ice cream is not going to help my diet plan.

Wish me luck! I need to get back to work real quick to finish my work, though I have MC to cover me for this entire week!! I dont mind going back with a slightly less swollen face, but not this current look!! Square face on the left, oval face on the right.. haiz..

By the way, I have an evil ploy hatching. I'm not picking phone calls from other depts for the entire of this week. *muahahaha* Love the idea...

What if...

Just met up with some friends lately at different occcasions and the conversations got me thinking..

"I can be who I want to be when I'm overseas, but there are expectations of me when I'm in Singapore."

"Actually I don't really care about promotions. More of ..."

These may not be the exact quotes, but the meaning is there... I'm not sure if everyone who went through the similar edn route thinks the same, but I guess there are social expectations about people like us. I have always wondered to myself...

What if I was offered a promotion at my workplace one day? Would I accept it because I really want the promotion? That I really want the level of higher responsibility, higher commitments, greater challenges, the job of being a manager? Or would I accept it because it is the norm to go? That it is stupid not to be promoted when you have the chance? Or just fulfilling the expectation that we are supposed to be great achievers in life?

How do you measure success at work? Is it the good performance appraisal? Good performance bonus? Promotion opportunities? Or just job satisfaction? Does moving up the corporate ladder equates to success? I think it is viewed that way for many people, but then again must one really be a manager or a director to be successful? If one is a teacher and chooses to teach for life instead of becoming a HOD or principal, does that mean that person is not successful?

Similarly, if I was ever given the opportunity to study or work overseas, would I take it up? Do I really want to go overseas and get some experience? Try the world out? Or is it a form of showing that I have "made" it and my company gave me the highly coveted opportunity? Does not going overseas ever mean that I am not a high achiever? Is the grass always greener on the other side?

Oh well.. Was just self-reflecting alone when I was taking the bus home. Maybe I would never need to bother to find the answers if I'm never offered a promotion, an overseas scholarship or an overseas job deployment...

Well, just like what my colleague says... it feels so good to be sitting in front of the tv for more than one hour on a weekday night! So shuang not to leave the office at 10pm.. muahaha...

Work's still busy as usual. But today's a good day! 2 papers cleared!! and 3 new drafts given to my bosses... Been a while since my papers cleared so smoothly.. haha..

Break!

Woohoo!!!

On leave today! Been 1 or 2 months since my last leave.. Nice to take a break from my busy work schedule (without thinking of what's piling for tomorrow. haha... ).

Actually I shouldn't take too much leave.. Always end up going shopping and spending money..

Went to the dentist for polishing, bought moisturiser.

Oh, and i went to swensen's at ion with my mom for 1-for-1 sundae! special promotion this month. hee.. Had my sticky chewy chocolate since a long time ago.. Heck my diet for today... Went there and realised that they have a ice cream and dessert buffet.. There's cakes, fondue, ice cream, waffles, pancakes. Without main course, it's $18.90 per person. With, i think it's $13.90... But then again, I don't think I can eat $18.90 worth of desserts leh.. I'm never the type of person who can eat one pint of ice cream by just sitting in front of the tv.. Small amount's just enough for me.

If you're a dessert lover, you can go try and tell me how it is!

Spent a lot of time at the pool and beach. Finally relearnt how to swim the dog style, i.e. frog style but head doesn't go into the water. For some reason, I hate the idea of my head going into the water...
And of course out of the resort for massages... I love massage! Oh yeah, and I like this photo.. I thought it looks like a beach resort advertisement. Or maybe it's just me.. hahahaha...

Recently went to destress at a ktv... so fun to sing and sing and sing. Best of all, it's free!!! Ok, not really that free. I pay about $13-14 membersip fees per month.. But, not too bad lately. It's in my office compounds. Been there for abt 3 times in the last few months with my colleagues.
