Chicago

Brandon had a pedagogy conference in Chicago so we all decided to tag along and play while he was busy learning.
Our first stop became the ER. After taking a nap at the hotel shortly after our arrival, we went down to the pool. There I noticed that Kurt had a dirty belly button. When I tried to clean it out, I discovered that it wasn't dirt, but a bug- burrowing in. Not wanting to attempt a removal, our only option (at 6pm) was the local ER. 4 hours later...the ER so slow...we were discharged and told to watch for syptoms of lime disease. What a way to start our trip - getting a tick in your hotel room!
Image The next day the little boys and I visited the Brookfield Zoo. I'd read that it was supposed to be one of the best in the country.
Image They have a really cool real life, real size dinasour exhibit right now. I didn't get many still shots b/c I was trying to drive the stroller and video the exhibit for Brandon to see. The dinosaurs moved their head/necks and tails and made their real sounds. Kurt spent the entire exhibit with his hands over his ears. He told me when we got out that he didn't like dinosaurs anymore.
ImageImageKurt really liked the zebra - he called it Marty..."Melman" lived across the way and he thought that was cool.
ImageAlways fun to see a Bald Eagle up close
ImageThe bears were very active. They'd just gotten fed. This guy was still working on his fish. ImageA fun picture moment. Two little Joeys.

They had a few areas really set up for little ones. This building was great for them. We went later in our day so they could get out of the stroller and run around and play. They could play with animal toys, design their own zoo, be a fish, explore some tunnels, do some crafts, "water" the plants in the greenhouse...They also had a do-it-yourself face paint station. Kurt started on his own, making himself a whale. I wasn't sure how to help make his face look like a whale, so it just stayed blue.Image
And he decided Luke needed to be a tiger. Mom did this painting though.

Stuff in Chicago

This is what I wish I could get for my birthday

I'd even take this guy...

Johnson County Fair

We took the boys over to the fair. We were sad to miss the deep fried oreos but we thought we'd try to get one at the state fair.
The animals were fun-here's a rooster.
Image Here's a turkey - I don't know that I'd ever seen one in real life before.

Image We were on our way out and the queen contestants walked by us. We tried to continue out but Kurt said, "No, I want to watch the pretty gee-els." Here is he, watching them intently as they walked through the trellace waiting for the moment he can clap for them.
Image Here are half of the contestants. The one on the far left was Brandon's favorite and then one on the far right was the winner. Kurt's favorite was sitting on the other side - she had on an orange dress. He was sad she didn't win (but she did take 2nd).

Cheese Please

Luke stole this off the counter when I got it out so that I could cut him a slice. He's too fast for me...

Va New & the Sipi Sipi

When we went to Nauvoo for the pagent, Kurt was very excited to be going and kept talking about it all day. "We're going to VaNew tonight."
Then, as we were driving there, we reached the bridge to cross into Illinois and he said, "Ooh, it's the Sipi-Sipi!" (Mississippi River)Image

Waiting...

I can't even remember what was in the oven that morning, but they waited and waited by that door, seeming to watch it cook. They must have been something delicious :)

Omaha Zoo

Our second stop on the return trip - the Omaha Zoo. Again, with dying batteries...but here were a few of our favorites. Kurt LOVES jaquars and cougars and tigers, etc.
Image We had to wait for this train for almost an hour! And when it was finally time to get on, Kurt had a meltdown...he began smiling again as soon as it started moving.
ImageAnd to add to the spectacular pictures of the day...
ImageLuke wants down, Kurt is "peenking" because he's tired of smiling and don't I just look fabulous? :) But this really was a cool little aquarium. This was one of those water tunnels so the fish are all around you.

University of Nebraska Museum

Since we drove 13+ hours to Lincoln on the first day back, we decided to make a few stops the second day. The University had a fun little museum.ImageHere's Kurt excavating some bones

Can you tell what they found?

Fireworks

The boys were excited (and patriotic thanks to Aunt Lisa) as we headed down past 9th East (the firework boundary in Provo) to do a few fireworksImageImageI know it's hard to tell b/c it's dark, but this was Kurt "catching" the parachute. He fell down, lost his shoe and caught the parachute in his shoe.

4th of July Parade

The parade was a lot of fun. Our camera was low battery and low memory space so we didn't get a lot of pictures, but here are a few.
Watching the pre-show
ImageImage A cool shot by Brandon. This guy (I have no idea what he was - sorry Nick) looked super tough. He was patrolling the kids to keep them safe from their tank that was ZigZaging across the road and looked like it was going to tip over on top of us all.
ImageImage Go Cougs!
ImageBrandon loved that the missionaries had a float and walked the parade. Go Sisters and Elders!

Rrrocky Rrroad?

Aunt Lisa had a fabulous ice cream spread for our 4th party. The boys, Luke especially, were in heaven. Limitless ice cream at their disposal all night long...
