Halloween 08

Image

My two little trick-or-treaters. I cannot get a decent shot of both of them. Pooky did not want his picture taken.

Image

Again - Pooky would rather look at the flowers than the camera. The two of them were so fricken adorable though!

Emmy, the "nice witch" does too. (She wanted to make it very clear that she was dressed as a nice witch, not a scary one).

Hope that everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!

Boo!

ImageIn honor of Halloween today, my friend Kmommy has boo-ed me. Thanks Kmommy! I will be boo-ing some bloggy friends today.
We have a fun halloween planned for today, so check back soon for pictures of my cuties in their costumes...
Happy Halloween!!

Carving Pumpkins

It was punkin carving night at our house, something that I look forward to every year. First, I love going to the pumpkin patch and seeing all of those beautiful orange pumpkins. Then I love carving them - cleaning out all the goop and seeds, and carving the perfect face.
Now that I have kids old enough to enjoy it with me, it should be even more fun, right?

Image

Emmy refuses to stick her hand inside the pumpkin. Despite our pleading and begging for her to just touch the goop, she gets all hysterical. And I get frustrated, because that is the best part! (she did the same thing last year... I thought she would be better now)

Emmy loved looking at them after they were done, and not slimy. :)

Pooky wouldn't touch the goop either, but he does still like looking at the "poppies".

Yearbook Me

My friend Chantelle sent this site to me, and I had to try it. I was laughing so hard, I think this is hysterical, so try it. Then, Amber posted one today on her blog. So, here is my yearbook page, from 1968.

HA! I love it.

Then, here is me again, in 1994.

Pumpkin Patch

So, I haven't blogged in a week. I don't really have a reason, other than I was feeling lazy, fighting off a cold, and enjoying the lovely cool fall weather. Plus I am addicted to Facebook right now, so all of my computer time has been wasted there.

Anyways, this evening we went to a pumpkin patch with the kids, one of my favorite fall activities. Pooky has been very into pumpkins this year. Every time he sees one, he gets very excited (and this happens several times a day, since pumpkins are everywhere right now!) and starts yelling "Poppy! Poppy! Look Mommy, poppy!" (poppy = pumpkin, for those of you that don't speak Pook-ese). So, the pumpkin patch was incredibly exciting - it was so funny watching him running around, from pumpkin to pumpkin, getting more and more excited, yelling about "poppies" the whole time we were there. And of course, Emmy was fun too, trying to pick out the perfect pumpkin.Image

I love pumpkins!

State Fair 08

This past weekend, Ray and I with the kids, along with my parents and sister, went to the SC State Fair, something we have been doing for the past several years. Despite the threatening dark rain clouds, it stayed dry and cool, which was lovely. Emmy went on a few rides last year, but this year she was really into it, and thanks to a whole bunch of free ride tickets we scored (thanks Dad), she went on a LOT of rides. I even got to go on a few "grown up" rides, which was fun. Ray and I got to try the deep fried corn on the cob (disappointing - just tasted like mushy corn on the cob on a stick). Add corn dogs, elephant ears, tractors (for Pooky!) and farm animals, and we had a great time!Image

Pooky sat in the stroller and ate the entire time. As long as we kept giving him food (french fries, hot dog, lollipop, elephant ear), he was content. I did try to take him on one ride, but he freaked out.

Pooky, riding a tractor! He was so excited, since tractors, along with big trucks, are his most favorite thing in the world right now! I have a cute short movie of him on the tractor that I might post later this week, because he was so funny.

Excuses From a 4 Year Old

Emmy has been potty trained for a while now, but maybe once a week she will still have a little trouble getting to the potty fast enough, resulting in wet spots on her pants. I am not happy when this happens, although she is getting better about it.

It happened today. When I asked her why her shorts were wet, she said:

"Well, I was upstairs drawing a hot dog. Then it (the peepee) came out way too fast. But, the rest is in the potty though."

Her excuses keep getting better and better....

Photostory Friday - Lemonade Stand

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Last week, I mentioned we were getting ready for our neighborhood garage sale again. It was last weekend, we got rid of some junk, although the bigger things I was hoping would sell didn't. Oh well. We still made a small amount of cash.

Anyways, Emmy had been wanting to have a lemonade stand for a while now. Something she saw on TV, I think. So, we thought that the garage sale would be the perfect opportunity for her to have one. She helped me make some Halloween ghost cookies, we made the lemonade, Ray set up her stand, and she made the sign. She was ready to go.Image

She looks thrilled, doesn't she?

Image

Here is a closeup of the sign she made. I love it. She drew a picture of the lemonade pitcher and one of the ghost cookies. And they were 50 cents each.

Over the course of just 2 hours, she had sold all of her cookies and the entire pitcher of lemonade. She made a little over $9.00. I am pretty sure at that point that she was making more money than I was with the garage sale.

That afternoon, we cleaned up the garage sale stuff and headed to Target, where Emmy got to spend her $9.00 on anything she wanted. This is what she chose:Image

My 1st Baby Meme

I saw this meme at Mandy's a few weeks back, and saved it for a day when I wasn't feeling very inspired to write. Today would be that day...

All About Me and My 1st Baby Meme - those fun details about my pregnancy and 1st delivery.

1. Were you married at the time? Yes, for about 5 years

2. What were your reactions when you found out you were pregnant? Very surprised. I had originally thought I was pregnant, but the test came back negative, then a blood test came back negative, and I just stopped thinking about it until a few weeks later when I started feeling nauseous.

3. How old were you? 24

4. How did you find out you were pregnant? I had been feeling so nauseous and my co-workers made me take a pregnancy test - I worked at a physician's office, so that was easy to do.

5. Who did you tell first? Well, a couple of my co-workers were the very first to know since they were there, and of course I told Ray next.

6. Did you want to find out the sex? Yes! And she wasn't very cooperative about it!

7. Due due: August 2nd, 2004, I think.

8. Did you deliver early or late? About a week early, on July 27th.

9. Did you have morning sickness? YES. I was so nauseous for the first 12 weeks, all day, every day. I really didn't throw up, I just felt awful. Every time I smelled food I had to leave the room. And in turn, I had no appetite. The no appetite thing lasted throughout my entire 9 months.

10. What did you crave? Cereal. The only food that didn't make me want to toss my cookies. Later on, I really liked chocolate donuts too.

11. Who irritated you the most? I don't think that anyone in particular really irritated me.

12. What was your first child’s sex? Female

13. How many pounds did you gain throughout the pregnancy? About 35 pounds, most of which was during the last month. Prior to that my OB was threatening to send me to a nurtitionist because I wasn't gaining enough weight. But, when you have no appetite and live off cereal, you don't gain that much.

14. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy? Nope.

15. Where did you give birth? Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI

16. How many hours were you in labor? About 16 hours total.

17. Who drove you to the hospital? Ray. We went to my OB's office first, because I wasn't really convinced that I was in labor.

18. Who watched? Ray.

19. Was it vaginal or c-section? Vaginal.

20. Did you take medicine to ease the pain? The epidural is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

21. How much did your child weigh? 7 lb, 7 oz

22. What did you name him/her? Emmy :)

23. How old is your first born today? 4

Randomness

I am in a random mood today...

It is absolutely gorgeous outside today. About 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Perfect. And the forecast for the next several days shows more of the same - I LOVE this time of year!
Since it was so lovely out, it was a great day for play group. We were at a nearby park and the kids had a great time running around while I got to chat with my friends - good times.
*************************************************
Our bi-annual neighborhood garage sales are tomorrow and Saturday. Since I just had a big sale this past spring, I really don't have too much stuff, but I will still do the sale. I am getting rid of our changing table and our infant carrier/stroller combo thing. Although we plan on having another baby someday in the near future, I don't really need or have room for the changing table - the floor works just lovely for diaper changes anyway. And since our infant travel system has already been used for 2 kids, I would like to get a newer one for the next baby, even if it is a used one in better shape. Mine looks pretty shabby.
*************************************************
As I mentioned in the last post, Pooky's 2nd birthday is rapidly approaching - 6 weeks. Although I have never really been into big parties for the kids while they are so young, I am kinda leaning towards a "bigger" party for him. This is because we have several boys in our playgroup and church who we regularly see who are all the same age, and I would love to have everyone over. If everyone came, it would be 9 kids, plus my 2, and a few other adults. Is that too many people for a 2 year old's birthday party?? I have never had a party with more than 5 kids for Emmy. Also, since his birthday is just before Christmas I hate to spoil him with too many gifts.

In addition to having all the kids here, I was contemplating on renting a bounce house, similar to the ones we had at our neighborhood block party last month (one that will NOT tip over!), for something that will definitely keep 10 kids all under the age of 4 busy. Has anyone ever done that?? Not sure if I want to yet, but I like the idea.

Am I crazy obsessive over birthday parties? Yes. I love planning them. I want to know what y'all think I should do.
******************************************************
Chantelle has tagged me for a meme. It is very similar to one I did a few months back for this post. So, I am declining. But I do have another fun baby meme that I found on a few other blogs that I will probably steal over the next few days for lack of anything better to post. :)

Finally, I received this cute award from my friend Anna at My Sweetest Dream. Thanks Anna!Image
