In this world of billion dollar advertising campaigns, few products are as immediately recognizable as a bag of Skittles. With its iconic red packaging, its familiar Miss Jean Louis bio, and its suspicious ubiquity, who among us has not woken in a sweating panic in the middle of the night, overcome by a desperate need to Taste the Rainbow ™ while Googling flights to Djibouti?
There is, however, a slight misnomer hidden away in that most thrilling of superhero origin stories. For while Miss Jean Louis - Miss JL to fellow Khôr ‘Angarians - states she was “Midwifed into the world kicking and screaming,” it would be more accurate to state she was “Midwifedwifedwifed,” as her birth was facilitated by Karen, Lois, and Edith Merp, Djibouti’s first polyamorous luchadoras, who have been bringing their tag-team skills to midwifery since 1956.
