How Big Is Truett??
Soooooo big!
At least that's what he believes...
My busy little boy is 8 months old today. But shhhhh... don't tell him. He has no idea.
Since he was teeny tiny nugget, Tru baby has always wanted to be bigger than he was, always trying to do things he wasn't able to do yet. Not only could he not do what he was trying to do, but he would get quite frustrated by his "shortcomings." Poor little fella.
His latest extreme desire is to be able to stand. Once again, he has no idea that he is only 8 months old with spaghetti legs. He tries to pull up on everything, and when he can't do it himself (most of the time right now), he reaches out his little hands to hold my fingers for support. Then he's up! And he will just stand there, holding my fingers and smiling, forever. He can't play with his toys, and he doesn't try to walk yet, so he just stands. It's a standing stalemate. It really is the cutest, sweetest thing, but it can also make for some loooong stretches of time. Standing...staring...
As you can see from the pictures, I have tried helping him stand and then showing him to hold onto the couch or whatever else is nearby. He can do it, and he thinks it's great fun; however, he typically gets a little cocky and just lets go. Bad move, spaghetti legs. Bad move. So for now we will stick mostly to standing stalemates. There are definitely worse ways to spend my day than staring at his smiling, too-big-for-his-britches self.
So next time you're standing around, think of us! We be standin' aaaaalllll day.

Truett's First Haircut
I have to document this sweet moment inTru baby's tiny little life-- his first haircut!
I'll be honest. It took me a couple days (read: weeks) to get the guts to schedule his first baby haircut. Anytime I would casually mention 'oh, he needs a haircut,' errrrrbody be like NOOOOOOO! Like I was going to buzz his baby head with guardless clippers.
But I made the call, and the deed is done. He got his sweet, shaggy head shaped-up just ever so slightly, and he is looking sharp! Much to my surprise, he sat SO still in his little baby salon chair, and it was over in a matter of minutes! Way to go, Truett!

Truett's First Christmas
We had a wonderful week celebrating Christmas with both of our families. Tru baby did fabulously in the car (this is a feat!), and he did very well moving around and staying in different locations every couple of days. He was a trooper! And he loved Christmas! Pretty lights, good music, paper to rip, boxes to chew, new toys, and plenty of family to lavish attention upon him-- what's not to love?!
We started the week with a couple of days at my parents' house. If you know me/my family well enough to know about the Christmas plaid, these photos won't shock you. If this 40-year-old tradition is news to you, get ready for flannel overload...

Then we headed north to spend time with Austin's family. We had a wonderful time, and Truett loved getting to watch his cousins run around. He can't wait to be big enough to join in the fun!
We ended our week of travels with a pass back through my parents' house to help break up the drive and have a little more family time. Truett didn't mind... He LOVES his Pops playing that guitar.
Now we are fully back in the swing of the real world and currently in the throes of our little guy's first real sickness. Here's hoping (...praying...begging...) he will be feeling better soon!

Getting Up To Speed
A lot has happened since my last post...
Whoops... been a little bit, eh? But my baby boy is getting big! And we are so excited about his first Christmas! He loves looking at the Christmas tree. And he is truly the perfect size this year because he is big enough to sit and look at it, but he isn't mobile enough to get to it and pull on it! Win!!
He also could sit and stare at a roaring fire ALL.DAY.LONG. Sadly, we don't have a fireplace, but he logged some quality fire-watching time at my parent's house over Thanksgiving.
As Truett is getting bigger he is definitely learning to enjoy his toys more, which is very helpful for this momma during the day.

And he reeeeeally wants to be able to pull up. He spends a lot of time trying to pull himself up on the leg of this toy everyday. He's not quite strong enough just yet, but I know it will happen long before I'm ready.
In other news, Truett has found the one his heart desires, and it's name is mum-mum. These have been a lifesaver, and they come in especially handy to buy us extra happy time in restaurants. Hooray!
His other new favorite thing is being able to ride in the grocery cart like a big boy. It has given him a new found love for grocery shopping, and for that I am very grateful!
As for the other fella living in my house, Austin is almost halfway through with residency year #3 out of 4. Trucking right along. He loves performing eye surgery, and he also likes to show me the videos. My stomach for that stuff is getting stronger... A little... I think... Or maybe not really... But I'm trying. And as we knew he would be, Austin is the sweetest daddy our boy could have. Tru lights up when Austin comes home from work, and it's the most precious thing to see. It does my heart good.
I am so excited that Austin has a whole week off for Christmas! It's going to be so nice to spend some good time with both of our families in the coming weeks. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
