Teaching socialism per Ms. Rush

Image
By Barbara Rush - 01/22/09
I was disturbed by the article in the IR entitled “Education in Giving.” Our public schools, which so fastidously bar any mention of religion from public school, seem to have no problem whatsoever with using certified staff, English curriculum time and public monies to teach the religion of socialist political viewpoints.

Barbara Rush

I looked up the article titled "Education in Giving" written by Alana Listo, and a normal person would not get ideas from it such as those of Ms. Rush. Unless I am reading the wrong article, Ms. Rush is reading into it much more than what is really there. Ms. Rush should call the author and clarify her misunderstanding of what was written. And again for the billionth time, socialism is not a religion any more than any other ism. Find a dictionary, look it up.

Buried and Stoned

Image
'...typically under Islamic rulings, a man is buried up to his waist, while a woman is buried up to her neck. Those carrying out the verdict then throw stones until the person dies. If the person manages to escape from the hole, he or she will remain free under Islamic law.' Recently 3 men where stoned in Iran for adultery. One got away and will go free because he was able to escape.

Disgusting, and why are the women buried up to their necks, making it impossible to escape? Barbarians!

"Joy of Sex" back in the News

Image

This is the book about gay sex that the Helena Library decided to keep on the shelves. The battle to censor it was about a year long.

I should place a bet our book banning friend Mr. Cohen will also be back in the news. It's getting to be a bore.

Spirituality, not religion, makes kids happy

Image
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28579289/

What does Spirituality mean to you?

Meditation seems the best way for an atheist to experience spirituality. An inner reflection of self?

I tried meditation once, but to my dissapointment its was too spiritual in that the mediation leaders of the group was sorta a mix of some strange Indian guru stuff and Christian.
I would love to try again, but a secular type of meditation.

Sexual Morality

Image
Sex education per Cody from Montana City
01/07/09
I response to Mrs. LaRue’s letter on abstinence-only teaching, I am a member of Planned Parenthood’s teen board and a student at Helena High School. The practice of the abstinence-only teaching is dangerous in that it blocks off knowledge to other solutions. If you go into a high school and tell kids who are in the midst of sexual curiosity that the only way they’ll have the chance to enjoy sex is if they wait until they are married — you have a good time with that! Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood will continue to educate everyone on the dangers of sex and how to avoid them if they use and adhere to the correct measures. We will continue to spread knowledge, not fear.

My Comment first
VRC and others who use the torah to teach sexual morality forget that back then once a girl began her menses she was married off. Today we don't like our 'kids' getting married till much later. I didn't marry till I was 29, and more and more people are waiting. Is VRC suggesting people marry younger or stay virgins throughout their peak years because they were unable to find a mate. It's irresponsible and immoral to teach teens abstinence only. It’s also unreasonable and unrealistic.

" Kudos to young Mr. Howell for being responsible -- and realistic.

I would like to make one other point on the subject: a major (but usually unspoken) goal of the establishment's "abstinence-only" teaching is to use teenagers' highly-charged sexual tensions as a tool to push them toward early marriage and having children. The state does this because it always needs more taxpayers, and more children to serve as cannon-fodder in foreign wars.

To paraphrase and old saying from the 1960s: "Make Love Responsibly - Not War". "

" Good letter. While it would be wonderful if we could all teach our children not to have sex before marriage, 9 out of 10 young people don't listen. Either the hormones get in the way or they think they are madly inlove. At least we can teach them to protect themselves. Sort of like showing them where the seat belt is when they go out to drive the family car. You have to be in a position of potential danger, but you can show them how to protect themselves as much as possible. "

" We are in the year 2009 - not in the 1800's. Those who believe that preaching abstinence as the only and correct way of teaching sex Ed are clearly not in touch with reality. "

" Thank you Cody. Very well stated. Let the abstinence only crowd spread the fear. We're above that. "

VRC wrote on Jan 7, 2009 3:08 AM:
" It seems that the young man has no real concept of morality or especially respect for his fellow students. The wages of a liberal agenda are a society where if it feels good do it rules over treating others with the respect due them as human beings. Lets hope that Montana youth are better than this or we are all in for a dark age in human relations. "

EVE'S SIDE OF THE STORY

Image
..and we are sticking with it !!

After three weeks in the Garden of Eden, God came to visit Eve.

'So, how is everything going?' inquired God.

'It is all so beautiful, God,' she replied. 'The sunrises and sunsets
are breathtaking, the smells, the sights, everything is wonderful,
but I have just one problem.

It's these breasts you have given me. The middle one pushes the
other two out and I am constantly knocking them with my arms,
catching them on branches and snagging them on bushes.
They're a real pain.'

And Eve went on to tell God that since many other parts of her body
came in pairs, such as her limbs, eyes, ears, etc. She felt that having only two breasts might leave her body more 'symmetrically balanced.

'That's a fair point,' replied God, 'But it was my first shot at this,
you know. I gave the animals six breasts, so I figured that you needed only half of those, but I see that you are right. I will fix it up right away.

And God reached down, removed the middle breast and tossed it into the bushes.

Three weeks passed and God once again visited Eve in the Garden of Eden.

'Well, Eve, how is my favorite creation?'

'Just fantastic,' she replied, 'But for one oversight. You see, all the animals are paired off. The ewe has a ram and the cow has her bull. All the animals
have a mate except me. I feel so alone.'

God thought for a moment and said, ' You know, Eve, you are right.

How could I have overlooked this? You do need a mate and I will immediately create a man from a part of you.... Let's see....where did I put that useless boob?'

Now doesn't THAT make more sense than all that crap about the rib?

Dominion over the animals per Bev

Image
Letter to the Editor

Definition outdated
By Bev

Bev wrote a response to a remark about the deer/pest control controversy in Helena.

The remark was “Animals have no rights as God gave us humans dominion.”

She said, “Having dominion means being responsible for and caring for — not killing anything that gets in your way! She says use of the word “dominion” is old and outworn.

"

I agree with Hakon about how we are responsible to care for the urban herds through population control. But disagree, YES the Bible is an old and outdated document.

lower taxes and less government

Image
At the opening of the 2009 Montana Legislature, the Montana Republican party re-asserted that they are for lower taxes and less government. They left out gay bashing?

In the article by the Helena IR there was no mention of social issues or religion. It's a nice change, they are not trying to pretend they are morally superior. But then again actions say much more than words. We will see what kind of sectarian unconstitutional laws they will push to restrict the human rights of women and gays.

I will keep an eye out and post them. There will be plenty, but hopefully not as many as during the religious rights hayday in the 90s.
