His Grace Aboundeth More

“Grace abounded all the more.” (Rom 5:20b, NASB)

In the pandemic year of 2021, during a quiet moment of prayer on a fall camper-van trip along the East Coast, I first heard the hymn “His Grace Aboundeth More.” I didn’t realize then how deeply its message would carry me through the months ahead.

On my journey home from that fall trip, I felt an unexpected urge to return to Taiwan in November. The decision came suddenly, and the thought of traveling during the pandemic filled me with anxiety. Worries pressed in from every side. Yet each time I prayed, God brought the hymn back to my heart, a gentle reminder that His grace rises higher than every fear and reaches deeper than every need.

For the Beauty of the Earth

“They shall give thanks to the LORD for His mercy,
And for His wonders to the sons of mankind!” (Ps 107:8, NASB)

As we enter the latter seasons of life, our hearts often seek to quietly draw closer to God and to deepen our relationship with Him. The anticipation of meeting Him “face to face” grows sweeter, and our earthly journey becomes more precious. Yet even as our eyes lift toward heaven, God gently invites us to notice His presence here, in the world He lovingly crafted for our joy and sustenance.

Lead Me, Saviour

“Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before me.” (Ps 5:8, NASB)

As we journey through life and pass through seasons of suffering, we place our trust in the Lord, who carries us through every trial and faithfully guides our footsteps along the path of peace. We need the Lord to lead us every day and all the way.

The sorrows of this world, especially the loss of loved ones, often come like fierce and unrelenting storms. Yet amid the tempest, we find assurance in knowing that God will lead us safely home to heaven.

Thy Word Have I Hid in My Heart

“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.” (Ps 119:11)

As Christians, our greatest joy is not found in a life free from trouble or filled with prosperity, but in the assurance that God is with us every step of our way. Though we may not know what lies ahead, we can be certain that the Lord will give us the strength to walk through it. Day by day, He helps us to experience and understand His Word, for faith is not merely knowledge, but the way we live our lives.

The Haven of Rest

“He guides them to their desired haven.” (Ps 107:30b)

Life’s storms often strike without warning. These “storms” can represent trials, such as personal struggles, difficult circumstances, or even the consequences of sin. They may come in the form of job loss, serious illness, the death of a loved one, financial hardship, accidents, or pandemics like COVID.

Following Jesus does not exempt us from such storms. In fact, sometimes it leads us directly into them. The disciples experienced this firsthand when a violent windstorm suddenly arose and threatened to sink their boat: “And a great windstorm arose…” (Mk 4:37a). The situation became so dire that they woke Jesus, who was asleep, and cried out, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Even with Jesus in the boat, they were overwhelmed. “Why is God silent in our moments of greatest need?” Isn’t that how we often feel?
