The UVU car show is somewhat of a tradition. I used to look forward to going to it with my mom, dad, and family because it meant that we got to finish Saturday yard work early! Well they moved it to Thanksgiving point and it is HUGE now! We were there for nearly 3 hours and only made it through a little more than half of it. It was an awesome day and I only got a little sunburned. These are my some of my favorite cars…
I love station wagons. I think it has something to do with Ghostbusters, or the many wagons that I've seen trashed at Demolition Derbys.
Had to take a pic of Jocie's bugs. There are two Grandma Mistys and one Grandpa Rocko, according to Jocie:)
Sweet Corvette.
This snub-nose Chevy pickup is similar to the truck my dad and I tried to restore (except ours wasn't a snub-nose.)

Projects Completed~
Well, as many of you know, I am a carpenter. It's been a great job and I've built all sorts of things. The best part of working with wood is seeing a project I have built go from raw wood planks into a completed project. Here are a few pics of the projects that I have proudly completed lately!

One more to the list...
Valentines added one more "Movie that was first a book" to my list. Jocie and I went to the movie "he's just not that into you" with Travis and Liz and had a good time. I was secretly pleased that I could add my list! Putting me now at 70!

Can Lighting.
Well it was a very long Saturday but the work was worth it. We started around 11 in the morning and finished up 15 hours later. We had great help from Michael Jones and his wife Shawni even brought us lunch! Jocie and I were sorry we had to miss our WOTP party, but glad to have light. 9 can lights in all!
This was after we cut the holes for the lights- I got really claustrophobic at first up in the attic. I had to just relax and control my breathing and then I was fine. (Which was a good thing because I was up in the attic most of the day running wires and such)
Here's the 3 ft. of attic space I had to move around in. Back and forth, back and forth, the left side of my body was sore and bruised.
Here are the cans all wired up and ready for insertion into the ceiling. We were really excited for the lights to be lit and working!

2008 Introspective
Scott’s Introspective look back at 2008
What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Bought a house. With the amazing help of Jocie’s parents, we found a nice home in Provo that we bought. We worked all spring and into the summer remodeling the basement. It was quite a big undertaking and yet such a blessing to have renters. We also have been continually working on the upstairs and have made a lot of progress.
Who’s new in 2008?
We got a new little nephew Bryce! He is such a chunk and so cute. He is
Continually smiling and we were glad to spend a ton of time with him in Denver over the holidays.
Did anyone close to you pass away?
Jocie’s Grandpa Gibb passed away last June. Though I only talked to him a few times, it is easy to see how much of a loving influence he was to all those he was around. His children, seven girls and one boy, have been a great influence in our life.
What countries did you visit?
Jocie and I made it as close to Mexico as possible. When we were in San Diego last June, we visited my favorite Puma outlet store that is located just off the “Last U.S.A. exit.” Just behind the outlets and over the fence you can see the poverty stricken Tijuana. We didn’t find any cool Puma’s though L
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A mountain bike. I sold my Trek Liquid last spring, hoping to buy a replacement. I searched and searched but never found one that I either liked, or could afford. Bummer.
What was your biggest personal achievement of the year?
Fall Semester. It was one of the toughest semesters of my college life. I only had three classes but all three required a ton of writing! Thanks to Jocie, my editor, I pulled some of my best grades ever. I worked really hard and was happy with my results.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Jocie and I both suffered from the flu over our Christmas vacation in Denver. No fun.
What was the best thing you bought?
Our house. It was kind of a big deal.
Who did you have the most fun with?
Family trips to San Diego, Denver, and St.George were great. So were our winter and summer trips to Lava Hot Springs with the friends. In the winter, we played in the many feet of snow and in the summer, we floated down the Lava river twice and hung out at the pool.
Where did most of your money go?
Into our house. Payments and remodeling can really eat the dough. We used most of our economic surplus to buy our flooring for our kitchen and it looks really nice. Schooling costs weren’t too bad, other than textbooks, and of course, we bought our share of $4.00/gal gas. Crazy we all were paying that much, not that long ago.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
• Our House- though all the never-ending work decreased our enthusiasm, I am excited to do some more work during the winter months.
• Our trip to San Diego, where I actually went tanning a couple times prior to the trip (first time ever tanning) in order to prevent getting sunburned. It worked magnificently.
What song will always remind you of 2008?
Sadly, anything to do with the Twilight/Hairspray soundtracks, as Jocie is always pumping them. This year I discovered the magical blues of Stevie Ray Vaughn. His crispness in rocking the guitar is unsurpassed.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
School. I’m so close and so ready to be done.
What was your favorite TV program?
Lost, Heroes, Samantha Who and The Office were atop our list of shows. We have recently become big fans of Kath and Kim and The Burn Notice. A lot of shows I know, thank goodness for online programming and our blessed DVR!
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is a terrible word and I don’t know who wrote these questions, but hate leads to fate. Hate is only used to devalue the lives of others. It’s the worst form of selfishness.
What was the best book you read?
I didn’t read any books cover to cover. Sad I know, but I had my fair share of textbooks that I spent my time in. When discussing this with Jocie’s friend Tess, I decided to make a list of all the movies that I have seen that are based on a book. Thanks to the Mid-Continent Public Library I found 70+ movies. Now I didn’t include movies that came from comic books, like the Spiderman/X-Men/Batman series, since the movies are just made up from the concept of the comics. I also tried to only include ones where some critic may say “the book was better”. I may edit it in the future, but here is what I have so far.
• About a Boy
• Apollo 13
• The Aviator
• Be Cool
• A Beautiful Mind

What was your favorite film of this year?
The Dark Knight and The Rocker. Two extremes, but two that I would watch again and again.
What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I went up to the big 26 this year. I don’t like the sound of 26, as 25 seemed to still be the “young and full of energy” person. 2-6 is an age that seems just kind of blah! I did celebrate my birthday by organizing a huge paintball day with a bunch of friends. It was a blast! Then we carved pumpkins and stuff with my family. I also got to celebrate it with Jocie’s sister Allie, whose birthday is the 28th of October. We went to dinner with Mom McNeill and hung out at our house. It was a good night too.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Jocie, being the jeans saleswoman that she is, got me my first pair of “real” jeans, Paige Premium Denim, and I grew to love them. I didn’t buy a single pair of Puma’s the entire year, and I really didn’t change up what I do.
What kept you sane?
I always tried to have “Something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to.” A saying that has been on my dad’s white board since I was born, and still is.
When you think about 2008 what sticks out in your mind?
The 2008 downturn. The transition from a pretty good economy to the energy crisis, to the Housing Crisis and all the buyout situations. What a downslope! The Presidential Race and election was historic, but I’m glad it’s over. Let’s pray that 2009 brings an upswing and a better life in America.
Well, I know this is a lot of info, but I’m glad I spent the time writing it down.

St. George Thanksgiving
Once Jocie was finished with her "Black Friday" shift at Nordstrom, we took off to the great southern Utah. We met up with my family, who had been there since Wed, and had a great trip. I got to go biking with my three brothers for the first time in my life. We rode Bear Claw Poppy and I'll add pic's of it later.
There was a park across the street from where we were staying and it was really a cool park. It had kid and adult stuff to do. There was a rock wall for climbing, and crazy swings, and slides. It was probably the best park I've ever been to!
Our Nephew Willie doing a pull-up.
This is one of the crazy swings that was at that park. It was amazing and it would really send Jocie flying!
We hit up the new In-n-Out burger just outside of St. George and it was crazy busy! The drive through line went all the way around the restaurant! I snuck a sticker onto my nephew Mark's forehead and he sported their hat for about a second.
