Mae Laughing

Mae has really just started laughing in the last week or so. She thought Mimi was hilarious when she flipped her hair!

Saturday ended up being a much crazier day than we had planned when we got up, which sometimes is kind of nice!! We started to work in the yard mid morning. Our friends Bobi Ann, Jared and Kati Ann stopped by with their puppy Minnie and Kati Ann got thoroughly muddy with Thomas for a few minutes. Then the cable guy who was supposed to come later showed up at 12:00. Thomas and I worked in the yard while Brax worked with the cable guy. We got Thomas in from the mud to go down for his nap just as Mae woke up (of course!). Then, the tree people who were either coming at 11 or not coming showed up at 2. They worked in our yard for about 2 1/2 hours. At about 2:45 Brax came out to tell me (I was watching the tree cutting) that our friends Brent, Leigh and Mark as well as Brent's parents were in town and planning to come by. As you can tell from the picture, I was gross from working in the mud. I ran inside to take a shower and Brax and I straightened the house. Then we got to visit with all the Boatwrights for a little while. Suddenly it was 5:00. It was a wonderful whirlwind of a day!

Arborist

Yesterday we got three trees cut down in our backyard. It was amazing to watch the man climb the trees with the spikes he had on his legs. For two of the trees he climbed a different tree first, tied a safety rope around it, and let himself back down to the ground before climbing the actual tree. We ALL had fun watching he, his wife and son work in our yard! And we're so thankful to have those trees down, two of which were dead! Now, we can start saving for them to cut down a few more...

Pom Pom Activity

Image

Image

I got this activity idea from this blog. I actually get A LOT of ideas from that blog. We did it a little differently and Thomas loved it!! Basically he picked up the pom poms from the bowl (we ended up putting them on a cookie sheet because it was easier) and put them on the piece of paper of the same color. Thomas had a lot of fun using the tongs and matching the colors. And it was really easy to get out and put away!

On Friday Mimi picked Thomas up after his nap and took him on a date to Playhouse Disney Live. Thomas LOVED getting to see Handy Manny, Rocket and the Little Einsteins, Tigger and Pooh and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gang. He had so much fun with Mimi! Thanks Aunt Katey for telling Mimi about it!

I DARE YOU!

Apparently the thing to do these days if you have a blog is a giveaway. Not wanting to be behind the times, I thought I'd do a giveaway of my own.

Oyster Roll is one of my very favorite foods that I have learned about since joining Brax's family. It is DELICIOUS!!! (Think cheese ball) Now, in all honesty I eat it because you put cocktail sauce on it, but the whole thing together is so yummy. It sounds gross, but it's so not!

So, for the first person to successfully make an oyster roll, try it and tell me about it, I will make you your own set of personalized note cards.

Here's the recipe (it's slightly approximate):

1 3.75 oz package of smoked oysters
1 block of cream cheese, softened
garlic/onion powder to taste
dash of Worcestershire sauce
crushed pecans to cover
cocktail sauce (recipe at the bottom)

Drain and chop the oysters (I use the food processor). Mix with the cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce. Roll into a ball. Chill slightly. Cover with pecans. Serve on Club crackers with a dollop of cocktail sauce.

Easy Cocktail Sauce
Pour a good amount of ketchup into a bowl. Add 1/2-1 teaspoon of horseradish to taste. Put in a capful or so of lemon juice (told you it was approximate). Mix well!

Be sure to put your email address in the comment if you want to tell me that you've tried it. Or email me at [email protected] if you don't want to post your email address on the blog.

Third Time's A Charm

I took Mae for her 4 month well check yesterday. It went very well. She's growing like a weed and her ear seems to be healing! She was 14 lb 7 oz which puts her in the 60th percentile, 26.5 inches long which puts her in the 95th percentile and her head was in the 20th percentile.

The doctor told me that to get Mae used to a spoon we could start her on rice cereal if we wanted. We decided to try. The first two times she hated it, but when I gave it to her this afternoon she was more open to it. The doctor said that our goal is just to spoon feed her at least once each day until she gets used to it. The pictures are one from each time of trying the formula. (We don't have her high chair out of the attic yet, so that's why she's in her bouncy seat and the Bumbo.)

This time the weekend was without Papa (he was turkey hunting), but with Aunt Katey. Again there was lots of fishing (see video) and playing cards. We also made some Easter eggs, Mae got to take her first bath in the BIG bathtub, Thomas helped Mimi make a cake and got in lots of playtime with Aunt Katey!

Four Months

Image

Mae is four months. She is so cheerful, even in the middle of ear infections! When I took her Monday to have her ears checked she weighed 14lb 9oz with her clothes on. She loves playing with things and has really started grabbing and holding onto them. She sucks on her hands constantly and has started sucking her thumb to fall asleep. She loves watching Thomas play, and will sit for a LONG time to do that. She doesn't laugh very much, but smiles and talks almost constantly! Such a sweetie!

Here's Thomas at four months. (This was the time that the doctor told us to stop nursing since he had dropped off the weight chart...He beefed up after this.)
