WAR!
Today I taught Thomas to play War. Mimi suggested it when we were at their house this weekend. I thought it was a great idea because it will continue to make him familiar with his numbers and we could work on "higher" and "lower." He doesn't really understand those terms yet when it comes to numbers so today when we did it we just looked at the cards and talked about which one had more "things" on it. He got it right every time and had a great time playing! He loved that he got to take the cards when his card "had more things" and I was really proud of him that the only time we both put down the same number he realized that the cards had the "same number of things." :) We'll be playing this a lot I think!
P.S. I pulled out all the face cards and only used the number cards.
My First Dress!
One of my New Years Resolutions for this year was to make a whole dress for Mae. (I won't mention my other unfulfilled resolutions!) I did it! My mom and I started it when I was in Arkansas in May and I finally finished hemming it and sewing on the buttons last week. Here's Mae modeling the finished product. The only thing I might add is BAMA monogramed in red across the front. I'm still deciding. I'm currently working on my second dress...a bishop dress for Mae for her birthday (a dress which is smocked all the way around). I stared EARLY so I'd have plenty of time and not get frustrated!
Feeding the Ducks
On Thursday Thomas, Mae, Kati Ann, Bobi Ann and I headed over to Big Spring Park to walk and feed the ducks. Thomas and Kati Ann had a great time running around, looking at the fish and feeding the ducks. (Kati Ann even enjoyed some of the bread herself!) Mae watched the spectacle happily from her stroller.

Tubes
First let me just say that we have been so blessed as far as ear infections go. Thomas has had none, and Mae although she has had several doesn't really get that fussy-just a lot more clingy. Apparently it's usually a lot worse than this! So many people have told us that when their child got tubes they became a different child. Mae has been so cheerful-we just want her to be on antibiotics less!
She got the tubes put in the morning. Everything went very smoothly. We had to be at the Surgery Center at 6:30 which was a huge answer to prayer because Mae couldn't eat or drink after midnight, and I wasn't looking forward to explaining to a chunk of an eight-month-old why I wasn't feeding her! We didn't have to wait long and we went to the back to get her all suited up and ready to go! They took her, gave her a mask with gas to put her under, made a tiny incision in each of her ears, insterted the tubes and we got her back 15 minutes later. She was VERY unhappy when they brought her to us-I think mainly because she was hungry and being held by someone she didn't know. She fussed a little on the way home, but the only thing that really made her cry was the two times she burped...I'm sure that doesn't feel good at the moment. As I write this she's up in her crib taking a good nap. Supposedly she'll feel totally normal by this afternoon! I felt a little weird bringing my big camera into the Surgery Center so Brax and I just got a few pictures of her on our phones in her gown. We had to document it! :)
Mae has this verse on her wall in her room and I say it to her each night as I put her to bed:
The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
What a comfort as we sent her in to surgery. Thanks for your prayers! We appreciate it and are so grateful to the Lord that it went well!

Eight Months and Six Years
Mae was 8 months old on Satuday and it was also our six year anniversary.
Mae is still rolling lots, but she's also trying to figure out crawling. She can get on all fours from a sitting position, she rocks and then flops down on her tummy. Somteimes she can roll in just the right way and make it into a sitting position. (She apparently has killer abs!) Her eating is sporatic, but we thank that's related to acid reflux and her ears. She's getting Tubes put in on Wednesday and we'd be very thankful for your prayers!
Brax and I got to go on a date Saturday night. We went to Carrabba's for dinner and then to see the new Harry Potter. Of course it wasn't as good as the book, but it wasn't bad either.
Here's Thomas at eight months and Brax and Me on our wedding day.
Partial Lifeline Reunion
Last week was a very busy week by our standards. We had something almost every day, and they were really fun things.
On Thursday we got to meet Jenn, Isabel and Will in Athens for lunch. It was CRAZY with all four kids, but so worth it! Isabel and Thomas are ten months apart and Mae and Will are two days apart, so the kids are good ages! Of course we couldn't get any good pictures, but we at least have a record of our time!
On Friday our friends http://www.sarahannhighfill.blogspot.com/ and http://thelifeofmartha.blogspot.com/ came through on their way to a wedding in Birmingham. We loved getting to visit with both of them and Thomas had a GREAT time. Sarah and Martha are very experienced aunts!
I worked with both Jenn and Sarah at Lifeline when we all lived in Birmingham...

The Proof is in the Pictures!
I've been saying since Mae was born that she looks like me. As she gets older it's looking more true. The other day I was moving some pictures to a different album and I just had to scan a few...
Ready for Church
On Sunday we actually had an extra few mintues before we had to leave for church. This never happens so I took a couple of pictures of the kids in their "Sunday Best." Apparently with two kids they will both never look and smile, so we'll always have at least two pictures...
Funnies
Thomas has a bowling game. It talks and the other day it said: Let’s play a game!
Thomas: Ok, let’s play tennis in the house.
Before Thomas could play the Wii the other day I asked him what his response should be when I told him it was thime to turn it off. He said,"Ok, or yes ma’am or no thank you."
I made Thomas put on his own clothes the other day and when he was finished he said,"Shoo! That was hard work!"
This story requires a little background. While Mimi has been laid up in bed because of her foot surgery she and Thomas have been playing Mario Kart on the Game Cube. Thomas loves to get the "Chompers" which take him around the track because he's usually in last place. In order to get those you have to run over boxes in your path on the track. So...yesterday we were driving to Brax's softball game and I ran over a box that was in the road. When I got off at my exit I could hear the box, so I got out to see if I could move it. I did and when I got back in I told Thomas that I had run over a box and I gotten rid of it. He asked me about three times what kind of a box it was, and I kept telling him that I really didn't know because I hadn't checked. All of a sudden he said, "Did we get Chompers?"
The pictures of Mae are so she isn't left out of the funnies. I thought they were kinda funny faces.

4th of July Weekend
Brax, Thomas, Mae and I ventured down to the family lakehouse this weekend for the 4th of July. We had a great time!! We ended up not being able to use the boat, but had so much fun swimming! It was Mae's first time to the lake and although she didn't want to be in her float she LOVED being in the water. She's such a trooper and cheerful even through her ear infections! Thomas had several firsts also. He played kickball for the first time, drank a carbonated beverage (Sprite), watched a full length movie past his bedtime (Finding Nemo), and got to hold a sparkler. It was pretty much a red letter weekend for him! Brax and I watched several episodes of The West Wing, and I got to read in the hammock, in the sun uninterrupted for an hour and 1/2. Bliss! We're looking forward to several more weekends at the lake this summer!

Holiday Weekend Happies
A fun flag project* that is supposed to look like this.
A double ear infection which could be seen as unhappy, but is being seen as happy for these reasons: It was once again discovered by this before we even had to make a doctors appointment.
This will probably mean tubes, which will hopefully put an end to Mae being on antibiotics over and over again.
It was discovered TODAY and not TOMORROW, SATURDAY or SUNDAY while we're at the lake...
And my six fun new windows that I got off of a trashpile yesterday. I can't wait to start getting crafty with them.
Happy Fourth Everyone!!!
*There are not pictures of Thomas doing this project because the amount of red paint on his feet required constant supervision!

Funnies
Mrs. Cathy: Thomas, I really like your shirt.
Thomas: It’s not a shirt, it’s an outfit.
We've recently been switching plugs between the VCR and the Wii because we didn't have an extension cord. We had gotten some videos at the library and Thomas was ready to watch them, and so said, "Mom, why don't you plug in the DRS."
Brax: Should we get some c-o-o-k-i-e-s?
Thomas: I want some k-p-l-d-r-v-b-w.
The other day Thomas was having some trouble obeying. I think he could tell I was frustrated because he laid his head down on the table and said, "I'm a bad person. I’m not following God’s rules. (Long pause) What are God’s rules?"
*Just for the record, we have not ever said that he was a bad person, and I don't ever remember talking about God's rules specifically...
Thomas: Mommy, I want to get married. I want to marry you.
Kim: Sorry, I'm already taken. I'm married to Dad.
Thomas: I want to marry Becky.
Thomas: Mom, when did you get up?
Kim: 6:30
Thomas: Oh, I got up at eleven-twenty-hundred-eight.
Gram: Now, Thomas can you tell me how to put this bar down on your stroller?
Thomas: Gram, I already told you that yesterday.
To Brax as he walked in the door after we picked up Gram at the airport. "Come meet my Gram!"
Some one we know recently had some surgery in a private area. This was a converstaion Thomas and I had in the car this morning.
Thomas: Why did {this person} go to the hospital?
Kim: The doctor needed to work on {this person}.
Thomas: What was wrong?
Kim: There was something growing in {this person's} body that wasn't supposed to be there.
Thomas: What did the doctor do?
Kim: He took it out.
Thomas: Where was it?
Kim: (Trying to avoid) Just in {this person's} body.
Thomas: Where in his body?
Kim: It doesn't really matter. Just in {this person's} body.
Thomas: Can I ask someone else?
Last weekend we went to Mimi and Papa's house when the electricity when out in ours. We had to wake Thomas up and he was a little confused.
Thomas: Are you and Dad staying at Mimi and Papa's too?
Kim: Yes
Thomas: Why? I want to stay at Mimi and Papa's without you.
Kim: Well, this time we're all going to stay.
Thomas (after thinking): If you and Dad went home, you could have a really fun time with Mae...
And not to leave Mae out, because she's funny too: Yesterday we were walking around Wal-Mart. Mae was leaned over in her seat with her foot up over the handle. I kept sitting her up and she kept leaning over. She was sucking her thumb and then she started tooting. And every time she tooted she giggled. How can that already be funny to a seven-month old?
