Memphis Weekend Away

Thomas was off of school Friday and Monday, so since my parents had been offering to keep the kids for us to go away for a weekend we felt like this was a great time. We met them in Memphis and they took the kids on to Fayetteville for lots of fun! They painted plates, went in the woods, did Sue's Sunday School, played with cousins, saw LuLu and GG Richard. They had a great time!

Meanwhile, Brax and I were experiencing Memphis for the first time (other than the 100 million times we've driven through). We went to BB King's Blues Club for some live Blues and good food! We saw the Memphis Grizzles Drumline. We explored Beale Street. We relaxed at Barnes and Noble. We slept. We ate at Charles Vergos' Rendezvous. We had (an accidentally expensive) dessert at The Peabody Hotel and saw the ducks. We visited The Pink Palace and got to walk through a replica of the original Piggly Wiggly. We both really liked that! We shopped and bought nothing. We slept. We went to Brother Juniper's for a really good breakfast. We drove through some beautiful neighborhoods. We did a drive by of Graceland and Sun Studios. We rode the trolley. We saw The Lorraine Motel. We slept. We ate at The Arcade Restaurant and stood next to the Mighty Mississippi.

I love visiting Southern cities and feeling the history all around. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's true. And I LOVE getting away with Brax. It was so nice to have 72 hours of time to just be together. And seriously, I've already forgotten what we did before smart phones.

Busy Weekend!

We've had a couple of busy weekends in a row.

Last weekend Thomas went to his first sleepover at his friend Hayes's for his birthday. He had a great great time with his friends. They ate pizza, played air hockey, had a Wii tournament, watched a movie and went to bed REALLY late. Like 11:00. That's 4 hours later than Thomas normally goes to bed. Nevertheless, Brax showed up at 7:00 to pick him up so they could go hunting. Brax said Thomas was VERY cheerful, even though he was tired. He, Daddy, PaPa and Uncle Jim hunted quail together. Plus, Thomas got to shoot FIFTY balloons with his bee bee gun. Talk about little boy heaven!

Meanwhile, Mae and I had a crafty weekend planned. I had several sewing projects for Mae that I wanted to do, and it's easier to just get the sewing machine out and keep it out for a few days rather than putting it away daily. While I sewed Mae: made necklaces and bracelets, did an "art project" which copious amounts of glue and cotton balls and watched movies. We also had time for a few games.

I sewed and sewed and sewed some more. I made the 3-hour Sundress that I found on Pinterest. The fabric is from Liberty of London. My mom and Aunt Jayne picked it out for Mae when they were there last year. The middle one is the Quick Jersey Playdress from Ruffles and Stuff. The bottom of Mae's isn't jersey, it's fabric that MiMi found leftover in her basement. I thought it was fun! I used the embroidery part of my machine and did the "m" on top! My first outfit to monogram. And then I also made Martha Pullen's Fancy Slip. I changed it a little. It wasn't quite as long as I wanted so I added a ruffle, and I took away some of the fancy. Because, well, I sew slowly, and no one is going to see it except me. I also made her a little sundress, but the straps aren't right yet. I'll take a picture when I'm finished. It was a tiring weekend, and by the end my eyes were crossing. But, sewing is so satisfying! Yea for instant gratification!
