So you've started a Broom & Brew. How do you find new members? Here are some ideas for how to find those in your area that might be interested in joining up!
Network via your Facebook page. Join local online groups and join in the conversation - but please don't spam! It's one thing to "show your face" so folks will follow back to your page, it's another to willy-nilly post the link to your site on every related page you can find. Search on facebook for your state and the words "Pagan", "Wicca" and/or "witch" and see what's available out there. Most areas have plenty of online groups - but not enough "real life" groups.
Fliers: Print out a few fliers with the basic information of the group and place it in places (with permission where necessary) where you think it might get some attention. The obvious place of course is in any nearby metaphysical shops. If you can't drive down to put them out yourself, find the shop's email address and ask if they'll put one up if you email them a PDF file or Word document. Most are happy to help advertise local groups. Other places you can inquire about putting fliers out: local coffee shops, book stores (maybe fold up a few fliers and stick them into metaphysical books!), candle shops, yoga or Reiki studios, farmer's markets, antique shops.
Travel to your closest Pagan/Pagan friendly events, especially Pagan Pride celebrations. Ask if you can leave out fliers at their sign-in desk. Tons of people gather at these events, many hoping to meet people who are more local to them. Make your presence known! Consider making a t-shirt with the name of the group to wear to such events.
Introduce yourself to any well-known "names" in your state. It might be the organizer of the local Pagan Pride event, an author, the leader of a larger group from the other end of the state. Let them know you are a new group and are actively seeking new members. This allows them to pass that information on to anyone who might contact them looking for groups or organizations near them.
Check out your local paper. If you're not concerned with your group getting the attention, many newspapers have areas where local events are published, often at no charge. Some have areas for publishing events for religious groups.
Create a press release about your new group and send them out to local newspapers and radio stations.
Anyone have other ideas to share?

From about.com: Warning Signs in Prospective Covens
Note: Though the title designates "coven", this ideas in this article can be applied to any group. A great list to take note of for safeties sake.
From the article: "Members that don't seem to get along with each other. If you have a group of eight people, and four of them are snarking at one another constantly, it may not be the coven you want to be a part of."
