Lucy Leola Rose

On June 4, 2011 we welcomed Lucy Leola Rose into our little family.
I went into labor Friday June 3 early in the morning. It took a good 12 hours for me to dilate from a 2 1/2 to a 5, and which point my labor stalled. I had an epidural and spent the night having contractions but not progressing. Finally at about 8:30 in the morning the next day the doctor decided to start some pitocin to get the ball moving, and came to break my water at 9:30 to really get things going. After spending several more hours trying to shift me into different positions to turn the baby, they finally just let me sit up and our little Lucy was born within 30 minutes! (why couldn't they just break my water and let me sit up the previous night??? Oh yeah... the doctor wanted his beauty sleep...)

Our Little Lucy was born at 2:36pm on June 4!

Image
She weighed a whopping 7 lbs 11 oz (pretty big considering I was only supposed to be 37 weeks and 1 day pregnant!)

Image
She calmed down right away and spent the first hour and a half of her life just happy to observe the world around her!

Image
My mom was able to come and be there with Chris and me through the whole process. She has now been able to be at the birth of every one of her grandchildren! I love having her there as she is such a great support!

Our little Lucy just wide awake and loving looking at everything around her in this strange new place.

We are so excited to have our little Lucy here, and are just loving every moment with her!

Ethan's X-Rays

Ok, so here are the x-rays of Ethan's broken leg...
This first one was taken just 2 days after the break, at his first Orthopedic appointment when he got his hard cast put on. You can really see the break on the right picture, but the one on the left shows that the alignment of the bone is still really good as you can barely see the break on that picture.

Image
This x-ray was taken today 5/19/11. The break in the bone looks larger because the bone tends to disintegrate a slight amount as it starts to grow the new bone, but the nurse said that he is already starting to grow new bone which is great news. Plus the alignment of the bone in the left picture still looks great, so we are right on track to getting him all better!

Image
We have another appointment on June 1st to have them re-x-ray his leg, at which point he might be able to get a new smaller cast that would enable him to be able to bend his leg at the knee. Until then we are drinking plenty of milk and still taking it as easy as Ethan will let us!

He is really doing a great job scooting around the house, and can even get himself into and out of the car with his wheel chair, so my need to lift him is quickly decreasing which helps me out a ton! He is definitely one resilient little man!

Snaggletooth

I posted a week or two ago that Lexi lost her first top tooth. Well, her second top middle tooth has been on it's way out for quite some time too. It just seems to keep migrating towards the center of her mouth, giving the appearance of her just having one center tooth dangling precariously crooked. Chris likes to tease her and say that it looks like Sloth's teeth from The Goonies.
Yesterday morning Ethan accidentally popped her in the mouth while they were watching TV while I was getting ready for Church. He just so happened to hit her snaggletooth right on, which caused quite the ordeal, and bled a lot more then I would have thought possible. On the upside it did loosen her tooth even more without her having to put forth the effort. I figured I should get another picture of it before so loses it, since it is just so darn cute!
Here she is with her Snaggletooth smile...

Here is a close-up...

ImageWe have a feeling that it wont last much longer, so we are enjoying her cute little snaggletooth smile while it lasts. Of course, we are looking forward to her little toothless smile that is coming soon too!!!

Father and Sons Campout

I know what everyone is thinking with this post... How could Ethan have gone on a Father's and Son's campout with a broken leg???
Well, let me just say that nothing slows down my dynamic duo! Both Chris and Ethan were so excited to go that I couldn't say no! Plus now that Ethan is in his wheelchair with his hard cast on, he really has become quite mobile!
Here is a pick of my 2 guys hanging out in the woods!

Image
One of Ethan's new tricks... lifting his broken leg. This is actually also how he gets around now. For some reason he thinks it doesn't hurt as much as long as he holds his leg while he is moving around...

All the boys were very excited to see Ethan there in his chair, and really did a great job helping him feel included and loved. Here he is helping throw the ball for wiffleball...

Here he is with Coby Kuhn playing a little game...

Image
Every body just loves Ethan and has been so willing to help him out, and make sure he feels included. We truly are blessed to live in such a great ward, with such great friends!
Besides who could resist this face...

Eventful Weekend

So we ended up having a rather eventful weekend this last week.

These pictures actually start with a photo of Lexi smiling after having lost her first top tooth (which happened 2 weekends ago, but is definitely worth noting! Isn't she adorable!!!)

Image
We started our weekend off Friday night at the Free Admission night at the Phoenix Children's Museum. The kids had a blast playing there, even though it was packed! I forgot to get pictures of them though, but thought it still worth mentioning.
Saturday morning we headed over the the grand opening of the new section of highway 303. It was promised to be a fun even with free activities for the kids, and where you could walk, and bike on the new freeway.
We ended up having to park almost a mile from the festivities in the hot weather, but it looked to be lots of fun once we got there. We started off by letting the kids sit in a rescue Helicopter!

Here is Ethan in the helicopter...

Image
Next we got to let the kids sit in a big rig. Ethan totally loved it and even got to pull the horn!

Image
Lexi had fun in the big rig too...

Image
After that the day went sour... We let the kids jump in a bouncing castle. Then they had one of those huge bouncing castle slides. Lexi went down without a hitch, but Ethan somehow landed wrong at the bottom of the slide and wound up with a broken leg...

Here he is milking the broken leg for all it's worth...

Image
Chris decided that if he was stuck in a cast it might as well look awesome (to help cheer him up). So he designed a race car cast for him! We also ended up renting a wheelchair for him to help get him around since he is too little for crutches and I am WAY too pregnant to be carrying him around all the time.
He loves his new set of wheels!

ImageWell that is our weekend in a nutshell. A lot of fun ended with a poor little broken man! He should be up and at it in no time, but we are more then happy to have friends over for play dates to help keep him company in the mean time!!!

Easter 2011

We had an absolutely wonderful Easter weekend filled with wonderful friends, and so much fun! Lexi had Friday off of school so we started our weekend early. We went to the park Friday morning, and swam with friends in the afternoon, then got to attend a birthday party with our friends from Chris' work.
Saturday we had a blast at the ward Easter breakfast and egg hunt. Then that afternoon we had our good friends the Mall's over for an Easter celebration.

The kids had a blast dying Easter eggs together, and my friend Melissa had the awesome idea to use egg beaters to hold the Easter eggs while dying them! Here is the little man with one of his eggs...

Image
Here Is a picture of Lexi dying one of her eggs...

Image
We also had so much fun with our friends creating an Easter egg hunt in our backyard! Here is Ethan and Nathan searching for eggs...

Image
Here is a picture that I just love of Lexi looking for eggs as well...

Image
Here are the kids Easter morning with their baskets they found. Lexi has always been an early riser. She can often be very quiet when doing so, which means that we don't always know how early she really does get up. The Easter Bunny always hides baskets at our house and leaves little trails of jelly beans on the floor. When we got up with the kids at 6:30 we are pretty sure that Lexi had already staked out where all the baskets were... Oh well! They sure did love their baskets this year!

Image
Here is a picture of the kids all dressed up in their Easter best! Ethan absolutely hates having to wear Sunday clothes and was not very happy about having to wear his Easter best... We were already running late and I was in a hurry to take the picture, and he wouldn't smile since he was protesting. I told him that if he didn't look at the camera and smile I would not let him have any more candy that day, and this was the best I got... Of course Lexi wouldn't give me a real smile either. Oh well, it just makes for more entertaining fun memories even if the picture doesn't turn out that great...

ImageWe had an awesome time on Easter as well. Church was great, and afterward I made a big yummy dinner and we had our friends the Allreds over with their new Foster children. We had such a great time hanging out with them and getting to know their new additions. I just love sharing the holidays with our great friends and am so grateful to have such wonderful people in our lives!
