there was a stillness in the air, it had been mostly cloudy all day and then while i was inside, i said what is that, everything turned orange inside, i went out back and it was the most beautiful sky i have ever seen. the most crisp sunset. i thought maybe the Lord was coming back because it was so surreal. i guess because it was so still, so bright, so magnificent. it made you stop in your tracks and look in awe at one of the most beautiful things God created. it was so awesome you didn't want it to end or go away. the fact that the sun had not really come out all day and then all of a sudden the sky changed colors, it was radiant! of course the pictures only show a glimmer of what it was like!

caroline turns 8

on november 8, caroline turned 8! i think the first day or so we woke up in the new house, bam...it was her birthday! it was a bit chaotic moving and such and the cake looks like it flopped over, but we found some candles and she had a cute birthday shirt and cousins surrounding her, so....it was all good. bless her soul. it was cra-zy! no furniture in the house excepts beds, you know, it was cozy! boy has it been a long year!!

my dear sweet caroline,

wow, i can't believe you are over halfway to being 2 hands. i remember when i was 8 and had just moved to tennessee and wow, how are you 8?! you are a precious gem. our little treasure from heaven. when i think of you i think of a beautiful soul, full of life and energy, lover of God's glorious creation. i see the tender heart you have, how you care for others in need. you are extremely hard working and responsible. you are very competitive. you like to figure out things on your own. you build and create things that are awesome. you can fix anything for me, or find a way to fix it or solve the problem. i adore you.

you love to read and especially love to be read to. currently we have started the first narnia book and it is so fun! of course now it is april almost may writing this but whatever. you loved uno, but now you love even more....rummy! you are the rummy queen. you love cards, and could play all day. it is always, "mom you wanna play rummy with me?" :)) i love it. your daddy and i have been waiting years for you guys to be able to play some card games, and look, we are there!! i am not sure where all the years have gone, where your tiny little 3 year old self went. i swear it was just here. you asked for "wood" for your birthday. you just want to build anything you can get your hands on. we got you a toolkit and you proceeded to make a wooden horse for anna kate for her birthday. you are in your happy place with a hammer and some nails :)

i love you darling more than you know. i am so grateful i get to stay at home with you and that you get to stay at home with me most week days. how fun that you get to explore the outdoors and  books while other kids are in school. well and do a little of that school work too ya know of course. ;) caroline, girl, i love you so much. thanks for being such a fabulous big sis and for helping me out with your sisters. i know you have a big job be the oldest but you do a great job! i savor our time together and love you more than you know!
