Tapestry Classes at NCBA Convention, March 2018

I am very excited to be teaching two new tapestry jewelry projects at the North Carolina Basketmaker's Association convention this year.

This set will be featured in Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine in the Spring!  It is my Tiny Tapestry Necklace, and Tapestry Cuff Bracelet.

Tapestry weave is all the rage now, kids are learning to do it, home decor is showing tapestry wall hangings, and tapestry jewelry is really showing big!  Learn how to make your own loom and weave whatever color/size you want or need! 

It is very simple to make a loom, and class will include how to do that.  The bracelet class, looms will be pre-strung, in the interest of saving time.  You will have lots of time to choose and coordinate your own special set of fibers, including recycled fibers.  

Many, many color combinations are possible...so if you have a special outfit you want to coordinate with, or your teenage granddaughter has a favorite color, you can do that!

You also have the chance to choose from my incredible cache of handmade, stoneware pottery charms, to embellish your creation!  I also have lots of buttons and beads, or you can bring something special of your own to add in.  

Bracelets look great stacked, or worn singly, and will include a variety of closure styles.

Please feel free to bring your own fibers to add in.  This is a great way to use that silk tie that your grandfather always wore, or the baby clothes that are just tatters, but you can't stand to toss!

The Tiny Tapestry Necklace includes choice of one of my handmade charms, and choice of beads at the start of the tapestry. In this class, you will make and string your own loom.  So if you take both classes, you will reinforce the technique, and have a chance to start it from scratch!

It's been a long time since i posted anything here.
Things change
I am less able to weave - it used to be fun (almost necessary!) to weave several hours a day - sometimes 10 or more. But i can't do that anymore. So my focus is changing.
I can no longer take one these hundred plus hour projects and expect to execute them.

Continuous Threads invitational exhibition opens June 13, 2015 through September 7, 2015

Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center, Atlanta (Buford), Georgia , presents  Continuous Threads:  An exhibition that chronicles the historical significance of  weaving in Georgia and the South for the past two-hundred years.  I was invited to participate in this remarkable fiber art exhibition, as a demonstration of how the traditional technique of coiling is carried into the contemporary art realm.  Three of my contemporary art works were selected by curator Ariana Yandell.

There will also be a Fiber Fest associated with this exhibition, Sunday June 28, filled with activities for the whole family. I hope to be there that day, I will keep you posted!~

Here are the pieces that will be in the exhibit, "Green Algae Wave", "Catching the Loon Moon" and "Storm Warning."

 Corseted Heart Necklace

2 hours, Beginner $26

Weave beautifully understated waxed linen knotless netting over a hand crafted, wonderfully irregular pottery heart. Results in an exquisitely simple and elegant necklace, perfect for Valentine’s Day, bridal, and gift giving. Color choices  This necklace was featured in the September issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine!

Hummingbird Locket  

Thu MB36, Thursday 1-3pm

2 hours, beginner, $35

So adorable, and fast and easy!  Craft wire is used to randomly weave teeny tiny bird’s nests, with gorgeous natural freshwater pearls masquerading as eggs.  Then nestle your tiny creation in natural lichen to make an adorable locket terrarium.  Locket may vary. Students may want magnifier and/or personal light.

 Lace Window Necklace

SUMB38, Sunday 8-10

2 Hours, All Levels, $28

Learn to weave a beautiful layered weaving in a pottery window of your choice. Many color choices available.  Finish off with beading to make a striking lacy statement necklace!  Light and magnifier recommended. Bring small sharp scissors.
