How is it possible it’s been over a month since my last post? Well, I suppose that since the majority of my time since then has been caught up in moving, it’s entirely possible. Still.

We’re here now, in the new place, and have been for almost two weeks. We’re still surrounded by moving boxes, but we have a mostly functional living room again (as of yesterday!), and a kitchen, and a play room/guest room in the basement. We’re making progress, although getting anything done with the kids around is something akin to trying to go for a hike with each foot in a bucket full of cement. It can be done, but it’s slow, and painful, and probably involves a fair amount of cursing under one’s breath.

On the plus side, though, we have a lot more room, and will have even more whenever we finally manage to finish unpacking. And we’ve seen four old friends (plus spouses/significant others and kids) and my brother in the two weeks we’ve been here. My parents are coming up next weekend, I think. Partner B has a new job lined up, and while I still need to find myself some form of part-time income acquisition, I have at least managed to register for classes. The cats seem to have totally adjusted. So those are good things. I miss our old life, and our friends and neighbors, but I still think this was the right move in the long term.

I owe you all the story of our cross-continental journey, and updates on the kids, and a plethora of thoughts. I want to write all of those things. Hell, I want to finish Aster’s birth story (maybe by her first birthday?), finally. I’m hoping that as we get settled into our new lives here, I’ll manage to make the time. I’ll apologize now for the fact that I’m woefully behind on reading everyone else’s blogs, and further behind on commenting. I’ll get caught up, eventually, I hope. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the fact that I’m sitting on the couch, in the air conditioning(!), watching through the sliding door out of the corner of my eye as PB and the kids play in our backyard(!). I wouldn’t say we’re settled in yet, but at least we’re not totally up in the air anymore either.
