I'm a visiting researcher in the AI Interaction and Learning team at Microsoft Research. Previously, I was a postdoc working with Yejin Choi at the University of Washington. I received my PhD from Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Yulia Tsvetkov. I am a recipient of K&L Gates Presidential Fellowship and KFAS Fellowship, and was selected as UChicago Rising Stars in Data Science. For more information, please check my CV.
Research Interests
My research starts from a fundamental observation: every person brings unique perspectives shaped by their background and experiences. I believe AI systems should adapt to this natural human variation, enabling technology to work effectively for all users.My work builds technical solutions that operationalize social intelligence in AI systems. I develop models and frameworks that identify where language models fail specific communities, languages, and cultures, driving solutions for pluralistic alignment and personalization.
A core technical challenge I address is incorporating socially contextual signals, from community-specific preferences to social norms, into model architectures and training procedures. Through this lens, I've worked extensively with subjective phenomena like sentiment and affect, developing computational approaches to model how different groups express and interpret these signals.
