A Giants Fan at Birth

In 2010, Giants were doing really well in their regular season and I remember thinking “Great, just my luck, they’re going to win the World Series and I won’t be able to go.” Of course, that’s exactly what happened. The night that Hector was born we had the one of the play off games going on in our hospital room. In the operating room (during my C-section) I could hear the doctors and nurses talking about it and then one of the nurses says “well, did you know that her father-in-law WORKS for the Giants.” To which another said “well, I guess that’s a good excuse to miss the birth of your grandchild.”

A couple of weeks later, Chris’ family was going to Game 2 of the World Series, he asked if I minded if he went with them. Umm hello? Of course I did! Just kidding, I told him that if I couldn’t go, then HE should at least go for the both of us. The Giants won that night and everything was great, even though I wished I could’ve gone, I had to admit I got to stay home with one cute baby.

About a month after the World Series, the Giants staff was given the opportunity to get their picture taken with the trophies. Even though Chris had worked and it was such a rainy, ugly day, we decided it was worth it to go and get our pictures taken. And I’m soo glad we did! There were a lot of people there and we were in the middle of the line with Hector sleeping. Then a lady came out to monitor the lines and such and saw us with the baby and she said, “oh you come up the front, we’ve got a happy baby here and we’d like to keep things that way.”  So we got to cut to the front of the line and get some great pictures.

In April, once baseball season started again, they had the ring ceremony for the players. We actually went to opening day where Brian Wilson ran to hang the World Series flag. Hector was soo good and looked adorable in his Giants gear.

A couple of months later, the staff also had their own ring ceremony and we went in support of Chris’ dad. While there we got this great picture:

I love that at only 6 months (7?) Hector already had a picture with a World Series ring. And one with his last name on it nonetheless!

This year, in keeping with tradition we took Hector to Opening Night. (more on that in a separate post). Again he did so well and had so much fun. He cheered and booed with the rest of us, and it was at that moment that I decided he needed to have a Giants themed birthday party. Too bad I've already begun planning his 2 year birthday party with a Mickey Mouse theme, so it will have to get pushed back for his third birthday party. Is it weird that he's only a year and a half and I've already got his next two birthday parties planned?

And don't worry, I'm fully aware that by the time he's 3 he may have his own opinions to what he wants for his birthday, I'll be flexible if needed =).

Fun Hector Stories #6

Here's a little background to this story:

One time we went to Burger King and the toy in the happy meal was a Thor action figure. Presumably, we went there right around the time Thor was released in theaters. (good movie! Go watch it, if you haven't already). Well, at this time Hector wasn't really into toys, especially the kind from Burger King, not sure why, but he never really paid much attention to them

Fast forward about a year later (maybe, I'm really not sure when Thor came out, and I'm too lazy to look it up). Anyway, amongst Hector's toys was the Thor action figure. Hector likes to pick up his toys and show them to us because we always tell him what it is. (Such a great way to work on his vocabulary). On one such occasion, Hector picked up the action figure and Chris said "that's THOR!" Well, as I may have mentioned before, Hector is one smart kid, and that really stuck with him. Now when we show him the action figure, and ask him who it is, he'll respond with an emphatic "THORR!" Funny thing is, this isn't limited to just that action figure, or just action figures in general. Pretty much any toy (that has some sort of body) he'll call Thor. See for yourself:

As you may be able to tell, what we showed him was a ninja turtle, but to him, it's THORR!

Feliz Dia de Las Madres!

Happy Mother’s Day! In Mexico, mother’s day is always celebrated on the 10th.  It's funny how I still sometimes find it hard to believe that I'm a mother. This morning I got a text from my sister wishing my a Happy Mother's Day, and I had to think oh yeah, that applies to me now too!

Today I found myself reading my “engagement story,” from the night that Chris proposed to me. It’s one the rare things that I actually took the time to write about. (I also have a picture book that tells the story which pictures. As I kept reading it, I realized the value of writing things down! It’s been almost 4 years since that happened and although I remember it pretty well, (I mean who forgets the night they got engaged?!) there were a few minor details that I’d forgotten, and I loved remembering them. Hopefully the next time I get lazy and not wanting to blog or write in the journal, I’ll remember this and think how much I’ll love to look back at this in the future.

Fun Hector Stories #5

Hector is really starting to talk up a storm. The other day on our way to our house, we left my mom’s and he saw the birds in their cage. He turned to them and said “bird!” Then we kept going and he saw his car (one he can ride in) and said “car!” We kept going and he looked up at the night sky and said “moon!” Those are probably the three words that he says the best.

Here’s some more of Hector’s vocab:

Shoe – pa (as in zaPAto, spanish word for shoe)

Sock – Tin! (as in calceTIN, spanish word for sock)

Bread – pan (spanish)

Dog – Da!

Go – go-go

Amen – men-men

Mickey Mouse – Meee!

Minnie Mouse – Miii! (really, it's a little different than his word for Mickey Mouse)

Donald Duck – Dack!

Pete (from Mickey Mouse) – Pii!

Goofy – Goo!

Pluto – Daag! (as in dog)

Elmo – Mo!

Thor - THOOORR! (separate post to come on that)

I'm know there's more, but I can't remember them right now. I'll try to add them later on. Oh wait! There is one more...

Jesus Christ - Jeeesas!

Now if you notice, after all of his words I've put an exclamation mark, that's because that's how he says things, in a really excited manner. I love it!

Fun Hector Stories #4

Hector loves to brush his teeth. At first he hated it, but now he loves it! After lunch he’ll go with my dad to the bathroom and brush his teeth (he mostly chews on the brush, but whatever.) Since he’s small my dad showed him how to rinse his mouth and spit out in the toilet. Well, Hector will take water from the cup and drink it then just spit his own saliva. It’s super cute, and really how do you teach someone how to swish water in their mouth. I mean we all do it, but how do you explain it to a child?

Fun Hector Stories #3

Hector borrowed a "see n' say" toy from Grandma's house. You know, the kind that has an arrow in the middle with animals around it, then you pull the handle and the thing will make the sound of whatever animal it lands on. Well, he was playing with it once and heard that a cow says "moo!" The only thing was that this particular toy didn't make had the real animal sounds, so instead of learning to say "moo!" he learned to grunt it. So when you ask him “what sound does a cow make?” He’ll grunt "moo!" When we were at the doctor’s office he was looking through the Eric Carle book, Will You Be My Friend? On every page there’s a new animal and every time Hector turned the page, he’d point to the animal and grunt moo. Then he’d turn the page and grunt moo again. Apparently in his world, the only sound animals make are moo sounds.
