Fall Utah Trip

We decided to take advantage of distance learning/work and remind ourselves what Fall feels like.

The kids are very lucky to have Quinn. They would never get a chance to fish without him.

I was really sad that we didn't hike to Delicate Arch when we went to Arches last November so Dixon, Kevin, John, and I hiked to it this time. Until this trip I had only seen it from afar. I'm so glad I finally made it. It was even more spectacular than I had imagined!

We were so lucky that my parents' mission call came on the day we had planned to drive to Kaysville. They are going to Barcelona! Three of Kevin's four areas will be in their mission. We can't wait to visit!!!

It has been so long since we've seen Fall leaves. I tasked Caitlyn with finding a kid-friendly, leaf hike. Which turned out to be harder for her than I had intended. It wasn't a great leaf year and we were there about a week too late but she pulled through for us. Almost better than the leaves was the fact that for the first time ever Victoria hiked without complaining or being carried! We might be able to hike as a family after all.

Kevin went to Lake Powell so Victoria decided to take over his desk. She does not love that the big kids get to do school at the desks in their rooms and she has to use the kitchen table.

The school district is doing distance learning for the time being. Definitely not ideal but the first week has gone well. Victoria is not always thrilled that I am the "teacher's aide" and I have had my moments of mourning the fact that this was the year that all of the kids were going to be in school but if that is the worst of it we are pretty lucky. I'm praying the kids will be able to go back at some point this year but am preparing myself for that not happening.

The Rest of the Utah Trip

After Lake Powell we headed straight to Price. We slept there Wednesday night then Kevin and I left to stay at Little America while the kids stayed with Robin and Dixon. On our way out we stopped in Helper so I could take the covid test, which was not fun especially because I felt like I'd gotten water up my nose for the next hour.  They told me it would take two to four days to get the results. I needed to quarantine until Sunday, the last day of our Little America get away, so Kevin and I just stayed in, got take out, and watched a lot of HGTV. Besides the fact I had that worry about testing positive in the back of my mind the whole time it was a very nice trip.

Image

Kevin even found a truck after a long search. He had been looking in Nevada, California, and Utah. I'm so glad this one turned up in Utah when we happened to be there instead of right when we got back, which is how things usually seem to go.

Image

On Sunday, I still didn't have my test results, but my quarantine was up so we ventured out to Market Street and had this amazing Lobster Eggs Benedict before heading back to Price.

Image

We spent the rest of our time in Price hanging out and watching a lot of dance performances. We left Tuesday afternoon to go to Kaysville. Right after we got out of the canyon I finally got the call that my test was negative. At that point I was pretty sure I didn't have it because I had been completely symptom free but it was so nice to finally know for sure.

Grandma B rented this awesome slide for the kids to use. She told us she got a slip 'n slide so when they saw this they were really surprised.

We had a nice morning at Willard. Victoria wakeboarded with me and loved it. She was even brave enough to cross the wake a few times.

All of the girls got wedding manicures and pedicures the day before the wedding. Then we had the wedding, which gets its own post.

After the wedding Kevin drove the truck home. We headed up to Bear Lake with Mom, Dad, and Paislee. With all the extra wakeboarding practice both kids made big improvements after Lake Powell and now I'm itching to get a boat.

Thursday morning, after three weeks in Utah. We drove back to Henderson after a quick stop at the Barnsons.

Chet and Melissa's Wedding

Chet and Melissa were supposed to get married June 5, but they postponed because of covid. I'm so glad they were able to finally have this beautiful wedding.

Image

We started the morning with Mel doing hair for all the Hussey girls.

Image

The wedding was at Millcreek Inn. Such a beautiful place! Mom, Dad, and I got there early so I could set the cake up. It was a pistachio cake with almond frosting.

Image

Then the family showed up. We only had to wear masks when we were up and walking around non-family members.

The ceremony was beautiful. I'm so happy covid only delayed the wedding, not that it prevented us from being there.

Lake Powell

We had a great time at Lake Powell this year except for missing Chet and Melissa.

The girls had been anticipating Lake Powell hair for a long time and Mel pulled through big time with mermaid hair.

Victoria loves Tate! I think he likes her too

One of the highlights was Mel bringing a tube. The kids loved it!!! We even got Pops to give it a try. I rode with John and Elizabeth with Kevin as driver and laughed harder than I have in a long time.

We all made tie dye shirts. Victoria decided to go a step further and make each of her dots into planets. We were all telling her how cute it looked when she spotted a black marker, ripped the cap off, and promptly drew this black hole front and center. She could not have been happier about it.

It was a big year for wakeboarding. After only agreeing to go to Lake Powell if we wouldn't make her wakeboard Elizabeth surprised us by asking if she could try wakeboarding. We hurried and got her in the water before she changed her mind and she got up! John also had a great year. He got a lot more comfortable on the board and started getting air when he crossed the wake.

And since it's 2020 our trip wouldn't be complete without a covid story. When we got off the houseboat at the end of our trip I got a text letting me know I'd been exposed to someone who had tested positive and therefore had just put my entire family at risk of not only covid but also potentially not attending Chet and Melissa's wedding. Long story short I was stressed out of my mind for the next five days but ended up testing negative so we were all good.
