Author's Tea
Jay had an Authors Tea at school this week where we got to listen to them read book reports about different kinds of animals. Jay did his on snakes. They also had little dessert treats and punch. I thought it was such a cute idea. Jay loves his teacher Mr. Ridge.

TRI- The full experience # 220
My moment finally came. After 4 months of training and a life time of wishing...I finished!
On Saturday May 19th I competed in the Woman of Steel Triathlon. It was so fun, exciting, difficult and exhausting. The night before I could barely sleep. Besides the kids waking up every other hour I was just really restless. I maybe got a added total of about 5 hours of sleep. I woke up great, not too nervous. While I was waiting for the girls (My Aunt Kay Lea and my sis in law Jessie) I took a moment to lay on the floor and meditate. (At about 5:30am.) I said things in my head over and over that went a little something like this:
You can do this
You can get over that hill
Remember to breath
RELAX
It will only take you a few minutes to get over that hill you can do anything for that long
You delivered 3 babies, nothing is harder then that
Move, push yourself, its all in your head, listen to your head
And then I pictured Bob and Jillian from the biggest loser screaming at me telling me I could do it.
I felt calm, I really did. When we got there we started unloading all of our stuff to our own little area. It was freezing. The sun had not yet come up and the grass was wet. That equaled my flip flop toes frost bitten. They ached with pain. As I was unloading and getting set up I realized I had forgotten something very crucial. I almost threw up I was so sick about it. The second I went to grab them out of my bag I realized I had left them in the inside pocket of the bag I was going to originally take. My goggles and earplugs. Had it just been my earplugs I could have survived. But I knew there was no way I was going to be able to do the swim with out my goggles. I called Randy frantic asking him if he could bring them to me before the race started. This meant he had to wake up all 3 kids, pile them in the car and try and find me in a crowd of 900 women. And, can I just say, husband of the year because he did it with 10 min. to spare. I was so grateful to him and to the technology of cell phones in that moment. After I had everything I needed I was able to calm back down. We got our bodies marked for the swim with our race number on our arms and our age branded on our leg. The sun started to come out and I was finally feeling my toes again.
The race started at 8:00am with a rough version of the star spangled banner followed by the first ladies into the pool. It was so exciting. Kay Lea and I placed ourselves in the 6:30 group. (That means that's how fast we could do the swim.) We were wishing we would have just gone in front and put ourselves a minute quicker because there were ladies walking and doing the backstroke and everything but swimming. It was so aggravating because you knew they should have been in more like the 10+ min group. As I got ready for my turn, I waited for the man to tell me "go" and then I crossed over the time chip mat and hopped into the water. Even though they spaced us 20 seconds apart, I caught the girl ahead of me in about 10 seconds. She was doing the breath stroke at a turtles pace and I was instantly mad she went ahead of me. Kay Lea went right behind me and we did our best to pass as many people as we could. By the second lane I think I passed about 8 people. I wedged my way in there, got kicked in the face and then I had about 1 whole lane of open water until I was done. (It was a 300 meter swim.) I jumped out of the pool and ran to the transition area. From crossing the mat out of the water to running to the transition area my time for swim was 7:43.
Here, I threw on some clothes, bike helmet, gloves, socks, shoes and sunglasses and grabbed a piece of gum. I did it in 3:43. By far not the fastest transition, but when you are cold and wet rolling on dry clothes...not so bad.
I then got on my bike and this is where the race really started for me. It is a 12.75 mile bike ride with the very start of the ride being a 1.2 mile long hill. That loop you have to do twice. I am not going to lie, it was hard. I think I went at a snails pace. Once I hit the top of that hill, both times I just gave it all I had the rest of the way. I did the bike in 50:33. Again, not setting any records but it was my personal best.
After the bike it was back to transition where I had to take off all my gear and switch out my shoes since I now use clips for my bike. A little faster, 2:58. Here I also grabbed a bite of a power bar since I was too nervous to eat that morning. After I downed that I had a another piece of gum hidden away in my shirt pocket and that was such a treat.
My legs were like jello. At the very start of the run I got to see Randy and the kids and that was such a awesome burst of energy. But again, a steep one mile climb right at the beginning of the loop. I couldn't make it. My heart rate was at max. I started to walk for about 2 min and then I thought once you get to the top run and don't stop running, And that's what I did. The run was probably the hardest part for me, not just because I suck at running, but because I didn't know until the night before that you couldn't listen to music while running. That fact right there killed me. I had run a few times with Kay Lea where we would talk, but I had never run that far by myself with no music before. Once I saw the finish line I picked up my pace and ran it in. Run Time: 33:02. (Run 5 K)
I could not believe I was done. All my injuries, blood (from previously falling on my bike), sweat and tears were so worth it. Afterward we got to hug our family, get a plate of fruit and bagel and water etc. and were given a necklace. I would have preferred a metal, but whatever. Kay Lea and I were pretty equal but only saw each other at the very beginning and end of the race. Jessie wasted us with her awesomeness which was to be expected.
Over all I placed 446 out of 900.
I can't wait to do my next one :)
I didn't even see Randy on this turn or else I would have waved...
I think I was explaining part of the race here....My bro in law Kev took a few more shots too...

Cort/Jay
Cortland 11 Month
Jamison 9 Months
It is amazing to me how these boys can be so much the same, but so different too. Cort is still a little skinny mini but just as needy as Jay was. I also love this one:

So I don't ever forget....
Jamison-
Is still fascinated by tornadoes. Every book he checks out is about some sort of storm or weather related. He is doing great in school and loves Math. Everyday when he comes home he races right outside to the back yard to play soccer. He practices his drop kicks or "Big Flames." He plays just until his head gets sweaty...so he says. Everyday we work on his math homework, do a spelling test and he reads a home reader for 20 min. He takes a shower at 7:00pm and then bed time is at 8:00pm. That is normally when we have Mom and Jay time because the other kiddos are in bed. He loves to dance and to listen to music on itunes. He is really good at making me laugh and has about a million funny faces and gestures. He jobs includes getting the mail everyday, cleaning his room and taking out the trash to the curb. He also takes care of all the recycleing. He is a big help with Cort and baby sits him while I get a few things done around the house. He is very over protective and never wants Cort or Jenny to get hurt, even when I reassure him that I have control and everything is OK. I love him and never want him to change from being my sweet sweet boy.
Jensen-
Deep breath. She knows every button I have and pushes it. She loves being the center of attention but then turns her head and is shy when she catches you looking at her. She sings really loud when she thinks no one is listening. She has really long conversations with me by pretty much saying the same thing over and over but adds in, "Because..." after every sentence. She is beautiful and always complements me saying how she loves my hair or my dress or whatever. She has no fear. She will climb up really high or go down the fastest slide and never think twice about it. She wakes up at 6:30am every morning no matter what time she goes to bed. She eats craklin Oat Bran for breakfast every morning unless I make pancakes. Then, she wants pancakes and whip cream. She LOVES whip cream. She normally watches a show in the morning so I can get dressed. She changes her mind every couple of weeks what she wants to watch but right now it is "The Little Mermaid." I have given up on nap time completely. I do make her have quiet time every once in a while just so I can have some rest. Potty training is not happening. Nothing works. Not stickers or treats or big girl undies or anything. She could completely care less. The awful thing about it is she was was better about it 2 months ago. We would go a week with out an accident. Now, we can't even go one day. Nothing makes me want to pull my hair out more. She loves wearing flip flops and never had any trouble wearing them. She loves dresses and make-up and her nails painted. She always wants to wear her hair down and doesn't like it when I put it in a pony tail. She loves putting on "chat slicks" (chap stick) and "yips" (lip gloss). Even though she is a complete Daddy's girl, I don't mind it. I love see her being so loving to someone. She will sit and kiss Randy's cheeks over and over and smother him with love. When she told me she loved me for the first time all by herself I think I cried. I can't wait until she is older and we can do awesome Mother/daughter things.

Cort 11 Months
Cort has gotten so big. It seems like he has changed so much from even last month:
-He now has 6 teeth.
-Eats everything in sight
-Is walking all along the furniture.
-His favorite thing to do now is take all of the toys out of the toy basket and then climb inside.
-He screams whenever you have food because he wants some.
-He pulls his socks off the second you put them on.
-He is so incredibly sweet.
-He reminds me exactly of how Jamison was as baby.
-He rolls every which way when you try and change his diaper.
-He snuggles me when he first wakes up.
-He has the best sense of humor.
-He drinks from a sippy cup all by himself.
-He says, "Mama" and "Dada"
-He loves night lights and knows exactly how to pull them from the socket.
-Is as happy as can be when I am holding him.

How many times can I say Randy is a STUD!
So if you are thinking this award looks familiar, it is because it does. Randy received another award for being and outstanding mentor/preceptor. Last year he received the award from U of U through the city of Orem and this year he received it from the city of Eagle Mountain. I don't why it still surprises me that he wins awards because he has always just been awesome like that.
