So Marley is still small for her age.

Here’s her stats:
Height: 30.2 in. (7%)
Weight: 19 lbs 4 oz (8%)
Head circumference: 18.7 in. (80.44%)

She really is at an awesome age. She runs, she chats, she plays — she is a full blown toddler! She has her own ideas and opinions. She wakes up at the crack of dawn (around 5am!), naps for about 3 hours, and goes to bed around 7. She is generally pretty calm natured, but isn’t afraid to let her voice be heard.

She LOVES being naked — especially taking her diaper off during naps and nighttime.

Favorite Foods: fruit snacks!, cucumbers with Italian dressing, strawberries, crackers, pasta, popcorn, fruit leather, cheese, Cheerios, oranges, rice, crushed ice when teething. (She got 8 of her 12 teeth in the last month and a half.)

Words: no, mine, binky, baby, bird, mama, Laila, papa, hi, hello, I don’t know, bye, broken, garbage, applesauce, color, diaper, up, more.

She loves to color and pretend to cook and read books about babies (only.)

We can’t imagine life without our Marley. She spreads joy wherever she goes! Oh how we love her!

Soccer

Laila played soccer this spring. It was a hoot! Everyone should attend a three year old sporting event in their life. So, so funny to watch all the kids.

Most of the time L was running around, but looking where ever the ball wasn’t. But it was so good and worth it for the experience and for her first team sport, she had a blast. She’s already talking about next year.

The year flew by! But, I’m so proud of how Marley is learning and growing. She is so aware of her surroundings and smart and independent.
She really is our little darling. She is so tiny yet chunky. She is in the 9th percentile for everything except head circumference (70th for that!)

She likes: crackers, cheese, toast with butter, hummus, strawberries, yogurt, and beans.
Dislikes: bananas, and pretty much anything else we try and give her lately. Who knew we’d have such a picky eater! Most of the food ends up on the floor for most meals. It’s awesome.

She also likes: baths, playing outside, going to the kids gym, and crawling.
Doesn’t like: walking, YMCA daycare, and doing things against her will.

Words she says (that we can understand): Laila, mama, papa, cracker, more, eat, milk, sssh, bath, diaper, yes. (Everything else is pointed at and emphatically yelling – aaaaaah)

When she folds her arms for the prayer or laughs along with our jokes our hearts melt and we fall more madly in love with this little soul.

Marley: 7 months old

Our sweet baby Marley is SEVEN months old. She brings so much life and joy into our lives. Oh, we love her so! She really is the perfect baby, except she still likes to eat multiple times per night. Yikes! Makes for a tired mama, but I secretly like our one on one time cause we don’t get a lot of it.

20131030-191448.jpg
She is generally a happy baby, she has been smiling since she was 5 weeks old. She sits up, she rolls over, but isn’t too interested in crawling yet (thankfully.). She loves her sister and her sister is constantly checking in on her. (Even when she’s sleeping…grrr). Marley truly is a special soul and we’ve felt her divine presence from the moment she was born.

Marley isn’t much of a spoon eater. Her first “accidental” food was watermelon, but her first intentional food was avocado. She eats things she can pick up, but her favorites so far are rice and those happy baby puffs. She likes chewing on apple and pear and orange slices. But she makes this face pretty much everytime she eats anything.

20131030-193640.jpg

She babbles constantly and we always think we hear real words, but it isn’t usually so. She waves when she sees us and acts shy when she sees Dereck (it’s pretty sweet) and Laila definitely makes her laugh the hardest, but she is still quite the mama’s girl and I’ll take it.

Well, hello!

It has been ages since I posted to this blog! Since my last post we’ve moved to Atlanta and Marley has joined our family. Since I use the blog as a record of sorts I have been feeling bad that Marley won’t have the same milestone tracker that Laila had. (After each appointment I’d write out all the stats.) I may try and go back, but probably I’ll just do a bit here and there. Life is a whirlwind these days and time is literally slipping through my fingers. I don’t want to forget all the little memories we are making every day. I’m making no promises to myself, but I do want to dedicate some time each week to posting a few words and pictures for prosperity sake!

The Party!

We like the idea of you can invite as many people as how old you are and we wanted to keep things as low-key as possible, so we let Laila choose 2 friends to take to the park.  We bought some kites (that were kind of a bust) and brought some snacks, picked up the girls (who happen to live on our street, thankfully) and walked to Prospect Park.

Image

On the way there we stopped to look at all the fascinating things on the ground.  (I think this was a butterfly.)

Image

First up — A waterballoon toss.  Mostly they splashed them on eachother and Dereck and I and laughed.

Image

Next up: I told them it was time for naps.  They thought that was a pretty hilarious idea.

Image

After flying kites and running around and playing with the ball.  Laila found some dirt, while the other two ate some birthday muffins.

They met this cute little girl who ended up being an honorary member of the party.  But really, she fit right in – she wanted to get dirty, and loved running around.

Proof of the dirty hands!

Image

We are so lucky to live by these two cuties.  Laila is already developing some great friendships and it really warms my heart.

Image

They played really well together this day, they made eachother laugh and just had some good old fashioned fun.

Image

And then we began the long walk home.  It was really a great day!  The girls came home dirty and tired and that to me is the sign of a successful party.  Happy birthday, Laila!

Laila’s Second Birthday

Laila has been lucky so far to have her g-ma here for every birthday!  Such a great tradition.

This year was especially great, because she has been talking about her birthday for such a long time.  She told me she wanted a strawberry cake and candles.  The night before, my mom and I had stopped and got the fish + accessories on our way home from David Letterman.  So, in the morning, we had it all set up.  She saw them from the top of the stairs and she couldn’t get downstairs fast enough.  She kept saying, Ooooh!  FISH!!!

Image

We talked to her about how we have to feed them everyday and they have since moved upstairs to her room.  She loves feeding them right when she wakes up and is constantly asking, “How are the fish doing?”  We are so glad she loves them.

After breakfast she opened her gifts and I must say her reactions were quite hilarious this year.  I think her favorite were the “two babies” that g-ma so graciously gave to her.Image

She has named them Silas and Bolo.  She really just loved her toys so much that she really couldn’t bear to stop playing with them.  We were planning on meeting up with friends at the Botanic Gardens, but she really wanted to just stay and play with her new toys.  Since it was her birthday after all, we ended up just having a low-key day at home.

We made some GAK. (This stuff is AWESOME, BTW)

Image

Image

I tried to convince her to take a nap, but she wasn’t swayed by me at all.  She was just so excited by the thought of strawberry cake, that I finally just gave up and let her help me make it.  Except her “helping” was me trying to make sure she didn’t put all the whipped cream and strawberries in her mouth before I could get them on the cake!

Blowing out the candles!

Image

I guess it’s safe to say she liked it!

We just can’t believe how big and grown up Laila is getting.  It’s a tough age as far as her learning how to deal with her emotions and tantrums, but it’s so fun to see her apply things she learns and come up with witty jokes and interact with others.  We are just so lucky that she is in our family.  We love you L-boogie!

G-ma Comes to Town!

Image

Hooray!  G-ma came to town, which gives us the perfect excuse to play and eat yummy food and see New York.  I brought our new favorite donuts when I picked her up from the airport – DOUGH.  I think she was pretty pleased.  She flew in on the red eye, so rather than let her sleep.  We convinced her there was no better place to relax than on the beach!

ImageSuzie and Amber joined us too and Suzie bravely brought 3 week old Quincy!

Image

Image

And most importantly the threesome could be together.

Chillaxing in the sand.

The long ride home.  Always feels longer when you get on the bus going the wrong way…oops.

Needless to say, we all went to bed really early and slept really well that night.

The next day we had a pretty chill day.  We went to the grocery store (in the pouring rain) made sure Laila took a good nap and can’t remember what else we did.

On Saturday, we got to meet up with our dear friends from Utah.  The Jenkins!  We used to be in the same ward at church growing up.  They could NOT be more cute or more fun!

ImageI LOVED catching up with them.

They agreed to meet up with us at the Brooklyn Flea.

Image

Laila touching a deer head.

Image

And testing out some chairs that I think would look great in our living room.

and then we convinced them to come back to my ‘hood for some yummy pizza.

Image

Image

Laila was entranced with Janaan.

Image

Sunday we basically relaxed after church.  Well I relaxed while g-ma bounced Laila up and down on her knee and sang the same song that Laila requested to be sung over and over and over.

On Monday we took Laila to the library and to the park, so she’d be nice and tired while Suzie came over and watched her while my mom and I went to a David Letterman taping!

Image

And here we are!

Image

It was really fun being in the audience.  Dave was really charismatic and funny.  We were on I think the 2nd or 3rd row.  The guests were Adam Sanburg and the Olympic Decathalon Winner.

Image

It was actually a work “fun activity” so here are some of my work peeps.  Nice that it worked out timing-wise for my mom to come along! It was a lot more fun than I would have anticipated.  I’m glad we got to go!

After Dave, my mom and I stopped and got Laila’s birthday present – see separate post – and then just got to go home and hang out.

Image

The next day, Tuesday, was Laila’s birthday!  I still can’t believe she is two!  I’ll post separately about that.

On Wednesday, I had to go to work, so my mom and Laila got to hang out.

She took her to a music class down the street and to the playground.  Laila loves her g-ma.

Image

ImageImage

On Thursday, we went out into the city!

Imagemy mom did some shopping.  Mostly Laila wasn’t in a shopping mood.  So, she had a snack

Image

On the way home we stopped at Dutch Boy and ate some burgers.  They really do have the best onion rings.

Image

She loves putting g-ma’s glasses on.  They looked too cute!Image

G-ma snuggles are the best!

That night, we decided to throw caution to the wind and head to Brooklyn Bridge Park.  This park really is one of my favorites.  They have a great playground, a merry-go-round, and the views are spectacular.  We couldn’t have asked for a better night.  The weather was just dreamy.

We stopped for pad thai and just brought it with us.

Image

The hardest part was trying to get Laila to stop playing and actually eat something.  She was having so much fun!

Image

Image

Image

The final day before we had to take mom back to the airport, we went to a little street fair down the street, then we headed to the redhook ball fields for some authentic latin food.  Oh, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Image

Image

And then to Ample Hills for some ice cream of course.

And then she was gone!  I guess the good thing is that because she was flying stand-by we didn’t know for sure which day she was leaving, therefore, less time to be sad.  The bad thing is that I thought we had a day or two more!

Anyway, we are always so grateful when she comes and helps and it’s especially great that she has been here the last three years this time of year because of Laila.  So, a wonderful tradition indeed!

Summer Dayz Part 2

ImageWe went on a Barge Tour the other day on our way to the grocery store.  Pretty interesting, I suppose.  Laila was in one of her moods and only wanted me far, far away.Image

Some fun at the playground.Image

Image

Hanging out at Madison Square Park.  They have concerts in the summer for kids that are pretty fun.  Well, fun to everyone but her.  She’d prefer to make wishes in the fountain and people watch.Image

It’s pretty bright out here!Image

Homemade ice cream coma.Image

Another concert at Prospect Park.  I should have learned my lesson from the other one.  This one was the muppets and she said it was scary.  We promptly went home.Image

Walking from church.Image

We were obsessed with the Olympics!  Especially the gymnastics.  Oh, such beautiful athletes.  Here we are on pins and needles.Image

Another day at Madison Square Park.Image

The Bubble Man!  Hey, everyone’s gotta make a living somehow, right?Image

Enjoying some lunch (Shake Shack) at the park.Image

I love being able to find nature in the most unlikely of places.  This butterfly was just waiting for the bus with us on the subway grate.Image

This is a typical scene.  Laila with “her” keys and purse.  Always trying to unlock something.Image

Laila and Mary on the swing.  Mary is in her “pouch”Image

There is a new car at the playground.  Almost as hot of a ticket as the red car.  Almost.Image

A glorious evening at Brooklyn Bridge Park with the YW.  Laila was off with her new best friend for the evening. A cute little girl named….Kamilah!  haha!  what are the odds?  So funny.Image

We decided to take Laila on the carousel to see if she liked it any better than.  Last year.

Image

It started out pretty promising, with her showing Silas the horses.Image

But unfortunately ended like this.  I think we are officially done until she specifically requests to go on them.  I feel bad for torturing her!  But, she did say she wanted to go on it.  She ended up talking about it nonstop for the whole day and she cried when I told her we couldn’t go on it again.  So confusing.

Train Rides

For the most part, I try not to take the stroller anywhere near the subway.  It’s a pain to lug it up and down the stairs and/or find a willing stranger to give me a hand.  Most of the time, I bring “the pouch” or the Boba which is great because it allows for to come out once we get on the train but allows me to have her on my back when we are on busy streets.Image

That being said, this series of pictures cracks me up.  Hey, we’ve got to keep ourselves entertained somehow!ImageImageImageImage
