My photo
Cody and I were married Dec. 30, 2005. We started out living in a small studio apartment in Utah, then moved back to Idaho for school. Our little boy Wesley was born Oct. 13, 2007. Our newest addition Roslyn was born Nov. 6, 2010. Cody has started medical school at Western University in Pomona, CA and is LOVING it. Along with Cody, I have recently graduated with my BS in Exercise Physiology and am enjoying the time I get to spend with my family in sunny California.

Born: Sat. Nov. 6, 2010

Time: 11:24 PM

Weight: 6 lbs 15 oz

Length: 19 in.

Active labor start time: 10:40 PM

Gestational Age: 38 wks, 6 days

I always thought I should be prepared for a natural child birth just in case I went to fast and couldn’t get an epidural, but after Roslyn came I’ve decided you can’t be prepared enough for a delivery like this one. Thursday the 4th is when everything started. My doctor checked me and said I was dilated to a 4. He stripped my membranes and asked if I wanted to have her that night. I said, “No Way!” because Cody had his Renal final the next morning. He expressed his concern for me going into labor quickly and told me not to wait till my contractions were closer than 5-6 minutes apart. So Friday night after my mom took us out to Outback Steakhouse for dinner and my contractions were 6 minutes apart we decided to swing by the hospital to get checked. As soon as I laid down on the bed my contractions stopped for 45 minutes. The nurse checked me and said I was only at a 2, maybe 3, and only 50 percent effaced. Who knows how I went backwards. So we went home and spent the whole next day shopping. At target I told my mom about the Castrol oil theory and how it put some of my friends into labor. So she dared me to try it and we bought a little bottle from the pharmacy. At the very least it would just clean me out. I was going to wait until the next morning to try it but we were bored so after dinner around 7 I choked down 4 Tbsp. Around 9 it gave me the runs and afterward I took a nice long shower. I was kind of getting contractions but they seemed like the ones they sent me home for so I didn’t think anything of it. I thought I would just sit down and straighten my hair so it would be nice for pictures after I delivered then all of a sudden, WHAM. I got the hugest contraction. I thought I just had the runs again so I yelled, “everybody out of the bathroom!” But no, it wasn’t just the runs. I had about a 30 second or less break and another one hit me so hard I could hardly talk. I told Cody we had to go. He switched the car seats and pulled the car around to the front so fast I barely noticed he left. I made my way down to the car, but not before switching my shirt with the blue one my mom was wearing so I would match… yes I was a little irrational. In the car I was praying for every light to turn green and they did, then as we were getting on the freeway a cop car sped past us, turned on his lights, and started weaving across the 4 lanes of the freeway to slow and stop traffic for a tow truck who had to reverse across two lanes to tow a car. Cody was getting very frustrated and I dialed 911 into my phone and was about to call to tell them to let us pass, when the officer finally waved us along. If he would have stopped us any longer we could have had little Roslyn on the 210 freeway, because just as we were exiting I felt like I had to push, and not being able to made the pain so much worse. Luckily we made it to the ER entrance and as Cody ran to get me a wheel chair I asked him not to forget my chap stick, again very irrational. A few people outside ran up to me to see if they could help me. They wished me good luck as a nurse ran me though the ER and to the elevator where he said, “You’re not going to have this baby in the elevator are you?” Oh I hoped not. Once I was in the maternity ward I remembered at the “maternity tour and tea” that they told us to ask for an epidural as soon as we come in if we want one, so even though I knew it was too late, that was the first thing I asked for. They helped me get undressed and I threw up the cheesecake factory red velvet cheese cake Cody got us. I won’t be eating that for a very long time. I was trying to get on the bed and I hit the tray with my fist because I hurt so much…woops. I told them I had to push but they told me I couldn’t yet. Cody finally made it up to the room but he couldn’t stand by me because the nurses were busy running around me trying to hook me up to the IV and trying to get my baby’s heart rate on the monitor. The nurse told me to control my breathing by breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth but this seemed to make things so much worse because I had throw-up in my nose. They pain was so extreme I asked if they could just knock me out and do a c-section. They rolled me on my side to help the baby’s heart rate, put the oxygen mask on me, and told me to breathe for the baby when we heard a very slow “lub dub…lub dub.” The nurse confirmed that it was the baby when she said, “that’s not right, the baby is not right.” I kept asking if I could push, and no one was answering me. With no doctor, and everything happening so quickly, the nurses seemed pretty stressed. Cody just kept repeating my question to the nurses and finally one said well she’s going to push whether we want her to or not, so they rolled me onto my back and helped me put my legs up. As soon as I did my water finally broke, I got a contraction, and pushed her out all within about 10 seconds. Right after it was just quite. No one told me I had pushed her out and I didn’t hear her cry. The nurses cut the cord and brought her to the heating lamp and finally got her to cry. Then Cody turned to me and said, “You did it!” After that, all I wanted was an alcohol swab to wipe the throw up out of my nose. About 15 minutes later (a little late), the OB doctor on call came in and stitched up my grade 2 tear. From when my labor truly started around 10:40 to when Roslyn was born at 11:24 was a whopping 44 minutes. About half of that was getting to the hospital, which we’re so grateful we did. The whole experience was very fast and scary, but all that mattered was that our little girl was here safe.

Our Little Boy is 3!!!

We had a small but fun little birthday for Wes this year. He woke up to balloons and streamers barricading the hallway and instead of tearing them down to get to his presents he carefully climbed though:) After he opened his presents we took him to get a white frosted and sprinkled donut (which he calls nuts). Cody had to study for a big test he had the next day, but he was able to take a break for dinner at the cheese cake factory. Wes was such a good boy and had a lot of fun. He loved it when the servers sang to him and brought him his own sundae. We sure love this little guy and enjoy watching him learn and grow. He is still obsessed with swords, dinosaurs, dragons, and shrieking eals, (sometimes when we are in the car or other random places he says, "Do you know what that sound is? It's a shriekin' eal!!!). Wesley definitely has his wild moments but is very compassionate and loving. I think he is going to be a great big brother:)

Diaper and Diaper Wipes Case

Image
There is something about having a girl that makes crafting way more fun:) I recently finished (well almost finished...I still need to sew velcro on the diaper case) this project that I found from one of my favorite blogs, here.

It's a . . .

Image

It's a . . . GIRL!!! We are so surprised. Our world has revolved around dinosaurs, shooting, sword fights, and buzz lightyear; we can't imagine throwing princesses and pink in the mix. But of course we are so excited! My doctor did the ultra sound himself and when he found out that Cody was a 2nd year med student, he went though all the baby's anatomoy, important things to check for, and even quizzed him. Cody loved it. It ended up being over an hour long ultra sound. All the nurses went home before we got out of there. Here's the conversation I had with Wesley this morning:

Wes- "I'm Lesley"
Me- "What's my name?"
Wes- "You're Tricia"
Me- "What should we name your baby sister?"
Wes- "Umm...Emperor Zurg!"
Good try Wesley:)

Half Way There

Image Well it looks like I'm over the worst of it! I still get sick, I almost threw up yesterday, but I am feeling a whole lot better now! The hardest thing for me now is the fatigue. We get to find out what we are having on July 9th. I really don't care if its a boy or a girl, but it will be fun to find out so we can start thinking of names:) Wesley likes to feel the baby kick and says there is a baby growing in my belly. I've gained about 6 or 7 lbs now, so I'm doing good on the weight gain side compared to last time when I hardly gained anything. Of course I'm not thrilled about my new love handles or extra chub but its all apart of it. My mom has told me that I need to learn to embrace it:) I'm just happy that everything is going well so far!

This is Kelsi's doing of course. Even though Wes can hardly see he sure looks cute.

Our Little Major Leager

Image

When we went to the beach a few weeks ago Wes was hitting rocks with a bamboo stick he found and the people that were sitting by us told us we have a future major league player on our hands. Now while this is probably not true we decided to get him a bat and ball and had lot of fun at the park for FHE last week. Turns out he a switch hitter too:)

A much needed updated!

Well I haven't blogged in quite a while because anytime I go on the computer I get super nauseated. Weird I know. Well actually I'm super nauseated almost all the time these day because I am prego! I am 12 weeks pregnant and we are very excited. This baby was a tough one to get and like all babies is a wonderful blessing. As usual our timing was not the same as the Lord's timing and we are beginning to see that his timing is perfect. We originally wanted our kids to be a couple years apart. We didn't prevent anything from happening since Wes was born and really started trying to get pregnant when he turned one. I took fertility pills after he turned 2 (they made me so sick, kind of like I feel now actually:) and we did ovulation test but nothing seemed to work. We knew that in my case we couldn't just sit by and do nothing and expect a baby out of it so we turned to an infertility specialist. She was wonderful. She actually cared and wanted to help us. Money was going to be tight but we really felt like it was the right thing to do. After fertility testing for both me and Cody, I got a hysterosalpingogram and that month we got pregnant! The cost ended up not being as high as it could have been, and that was just another blessing. So far this pregnancy has been exciting but very hard. I am more sick this time but luckily I have some breaks here and there. Sometimes I feel bad because I seem like I am not as happy to be pregnant because I can get so sick, but I really am so grateful. We had an ultra sound at 8 weeks and saw a good heartbeat, and on Friday we got to hear it. Wesley thought the appointment was for him so he wouldn't go back to the room until he was weighed and laid down on the table with his shirt pulled up to hear the baby in his belly too:) My due date is Nov.14 2010. Wes and baby #2 will be about 3 years and 1 month apart. I can't wait!

P.S. Sorry no pictures. For some reason I get really sick when i look though my camera. Its like a food aversion but with my camera and computer. I know...strange.

My Adorable Niece!

Last week we went to Rexburg to see this beautiful little girl get blessed. The sad part was that we had to stay away from her because Wesley was sick (full on viral infection, ear infection, fever for 4 days, bad cough, and vomiting)! Melissa and I did get to do a fun photo shoot though. Hailey is such a cutie!

My Little Stinker

Image

The title of this post sure describes Wesley yesterday...well most days really, but especially yesterday. Not only did my favorite eyeliner end up on his forehead, but it made it on my walls, mirrors, cody's text book, and a tax form. Then while I was dealing with that I found him putting mascara in his hair and some foundation on his forehead. I need to get a lock on my makeup drawer. About a half an hour later, after I told him he can't microwave our knives anymore, i found him on a chair, by open cupboards, dumping cinnamon all over the ground. About fifteen minutes after that I hear things banging on the walls and find Wesley taking every toy out of his toy basket and throwing it behind him over his shoulder. He did have a purpose for that one because once the basket was cleared he put his drum in it to use it as a step to reach a thumb tac on the wall. Did I mention my house was spotless before all of this. No one got to see it.

P.S. All this happend with in about an hour or two. And believe it or not there was more. At least one of us had fun.

My Favorite Cartoon

ImageI know, my cartoon preference has changed since He-man but this is just as cool. I could watch this stuff all day! And just as a side note if you were wondering this is a cartoon of an immune response to an intracellular pathogen. Like a virus!

Cellular Aging

ImageI hope everyone enjoys my first post in a while. Dr. Parsa D.O. just talked about cellular aging in my lecture this morning and there is significant evidence that excess caloric intake is the most significant contributing factor to triggering cellular aging processes. I hope you all eat salad for lunch with lots of vegetables. I know I will! Have a great day!

For my birthday we spent the day at Laguna Beach. It was wonderful! The weather was perfect and Wesley was happy (which means everyone is happy). We looked at the tide pools, played in the sand, had a picnic, and just relaxed. After sunset we went to dinner at the Lazy Dog Cafe and it was sooooo yummy:) Cody and Wesley sang to me when they brought my free sunday, and Wes blew out my candle:) It really was my favorite birthday yet!

Even though this picture is a little noisy in some spots, I just love it. It almost looks like Wesley is praying:) He's not usually this pensive.

Christmas Break

(Cody is quite the photographer, isn't he!)

(Thanks for braving the rain to take our pictures Hanah!)

We had a wonderful Christmas. We spent the first week with Cody's parents, and the second with mine. We took so many pictures, but for now these will have to do:) I'll try and post detail of our vacation soon!

Cuttest Slippers Ever

Check it out mom. He's finally wearing them! He didn't even say "they're too tight" this time. He ended up taking them off 10 minutes later, but at least I got a picture with him wearing them:)

Cody in Action

Image
A couple weekends ago Cody worked at a free clinic performing physicals and taking histories. He loved it. Someone from his school went around taking pictures of the students working and here is one he found. Doesn't he look so professional. He was one of the few that could speak to the patients since most of them spoke Spanish. The day before he spent the day in the OR shadowing orthopedic surgeons ... he REALLY loved that. He's pretty set now that orthopedic surgery is what he wants to do.

Weekly Assignment: Technology

Image

I was sitting at my computer with my camera playing with the ISO settings when Wesley came up with his hammer. I quickly snatched a few shots before I told him no. Earlier I had read that the Digital Photography School assignment was to take a picture of technology. This is the one I submitted. How often do we feel like smashing our computers with a hammer? (We just bought a new one so I haven't felt like that for a while but I know the feeling:)
