She wouldn't leave me alone...

Image
I sat down to paint this image inspired by an old photograph. I am rather pleased with how it turned out. I am struggling to let go of outcomes and just paint what speaks to me. It may not be lucrative but it seems more important.  This is one of the images that haunts me until I do something about it. I like that there are images that do that but I don't know why they pester me.

Tony Valentine

Image

I received the news that a fellow painter, Tony Valentine, has passed away. He was a strong member of the Headwaters Art Society. He will be very much missed.

Image
He loved to capture the beauty of the mountains in water color. Farewell, Tony.

Collagey bits

Shadows   8x10

I like how collage allows you to bring together things just seem to go together. You don't have to have any advanced drawing or painting skills to attend and enjoy a collage class. Just grab what speaks to you and start gluing.

We have the technology....

Image
I made several collages for the "Papier Colle Femmes" project a few years ago. I was very fond of a few of the collages and have missed them ever since. I decided to create similar ones for my own benefit.

This one depicts Artemis, goddess of wild animals.

From the Workshop

Image

I thought I would post a couple of paintings from the workshop.

These were fairly quick studies but I am liking the brushwork.

Red Deer Summer Series

Image
Fresh back from a week at Red Deer Summer Series, a week long painting class with Justin Ogilvie (a very fine teacher). Big thanks go out to the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for their grant that enabled me to attend this outstanding level of instruction.

If you haven't been and you are anywhere near, Red Deer college offers several weeks of instruction through out the summer. You can stay at the residences on the campus (very reasonable). It's art camp for adults. Check this year's offerings out at:  http://rdc.ab.ca/continuing-education/summer-rdc/series-summer-arts-school

Remembering the Clay City Oil Fields

Image

Thinking of Jasper county. Driving in the work truck with Mom and Dad as Dad made his last check of the day on the pump jacks he took care of. Summer air as warm and fluid as milk. Cornstalks obscuring the sightline of crossroads. Lightning bugs at dusk.

Waiting

Image
Waiting   16x20    SOLD

This is a painting from a few years back. I was taking photos of the girl's twin sister who was modeling for us. When I looked over at this sister, who was patiently waiting her turn, I was smitten with her pose.

Farewell, Ted Harrison and thank you

Image
Ted Harrison, an innovative and beloved Canadian artist, passed away today in Victoria BC. Thanks Mr. Harrison for showing us that there are more ways to paint than just traditional realism.

You can see a great article about Ted here: http://www.artistsincanada.com/article/?q=238
