Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Yoiyami Biscuit

Genre: Rogue-like
Releases: 2025 (Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 4/10

If you have read some of my past videogame articles, you might have noticed that I have a soft spot for “Survivors” games, amongst many other things. I just like the idea of a rogue-like power fantasy in which careful build creation is rewarded by everything on screen being torn to shreds on a regular basis. Imagine my surprise seeing “Yoiyami Biscuit” being released, the second title from tripper_room after the frankly amazing “Yoiyami Dancers”, using the same cutesy artstyle but incorporating Rumia’s adventures in Gensokyo into a “Survivors” game that resolves around all sorts of snacks. I would even admit that I was a little hyped, which is a rare occurrence for me in video games nowadays; and you might already know what cards fate deals if I am honestly excited for a new release.

Budget Deckbuilding: Levelers’ Glory

Image

Last week, we had a pretty disappointing showing in form of “Levelers’ Scorn”, a Blue-Black deck loosely themed around the Level Up mechanic that allows you to pump senseless amounts of mana into creatures to make them a little better and overall still underwhelming. Imagine my joy when I saw that this weeks’ entry was called “Levelers’ Glory”, meaning that I have yet more of the dreaded leveler creatures to go over. This time, the deckbuilders decided that White-Blue is the way to go, but since I don’t have much hope for the mechanic to begin with I can only expect the worst going over this package. Let us see whether I can still be pleasantly surprised by the cardboard at hand.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Elden Ring

Image

Game: Elden Ring
Developer: From Software
Genre: Action Role-Playing game
Releases: 2022 (Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox X/S)
Stalk’s Rating: 9/10

Here at Cubic Creativity, I write pretty much what I like about whatever I want to write about. Sure, it probably garners more clicks to constantly push out content about the newest and hottest game on the market, competing with about ten-thousand other pages on the internet to do so, but I do this as a hobby and the amount of people visiting my articles has become far less important over time since I much rather present something I like to write and, hopefully, people like to read. With that being said, even I sometimes stumble upon the big and successful titles and even if I am the first to say that Triple-A titles have to stand up to just as much of my scrutiny as anything else, they do deliver on occasion. So, let us talk about my experience with “Elden Ring”, the undisputed Game of the Year 2022 and another feather in the cap of From Software. Bringing the “Dark Souls” gameplay to a massive open world sure was a risky move but one that paid off, for the most part; and that “for the most part” is what is going to define the article down below, since there is a lot of good to say about “Elden Ring” but I still have some pet peeves that I would like to address.

Budget Deckbuilding: Levelers’ Scorn

Image

Another Wednesday, another Intro Pack. Currently, I am in the middle of Rise of the Eldrazi, with the last two entries being pretty solid decks in their own right with a Red-Green Aggro deck that ramps to bring out big Eldrazi beaters, while the other deck was Black-Red and really took more of a numbers’ approach to Aggro, using the 0/1 Eldrazi Spawns for more than just mana generation. Well, today we actually take a step away from Eldrazis and instead work with a Blue-Black deck that wants to use creatures with Level Up to get impressive creatures onto the field. Whether it is successful in doing so remains to be seen; in the article down below.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Stick It to the Stickman

Image

Game: Stick It to the Stickman
Developer: Free Lives
Genre: Comedy, Fighting Game
Releases: 2025 (Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 7/10

If you are around my age, you might remember a time when stick figure animations were all the rage. I can vividly remember watching the various “Counterstrike”-related videos from flashdeckanimations (like this one for the map Dust), while there are also other examples like the more recent “Shock” from Terkoiz; with “recent” still referring to about ten years ago. If you ask yourself where I am going with this, then I can answer you that such a type of video is now available in playable form. Now, I am sure that there were plenty of Flash games doing a similar thing back in the day and games like “Nidhogg” exist which basically capture the same idea, but “Stick it to the Stickman” presents a polished yet silly gameplay premise that I would not even have played in the first place if Gilkar from my Discord chat hadn’t bought the game for me, insisting that I should try it. Join me on a journey up the corporate ladder where only your ability to fight is what keeps you from staying a normal wage slave.

Budget Deckbuilding: Invading Spawn

Image

Intro Pack number two from Rise of the Eldrazi is what we are going to look at today, and I can tell you right now that the deckbuilding team at WotC really fell in love with Eldrazi, since this is the second deck that makes use of them thematically; and I can only guess that there are more to come. Well, today’s entry is “Invading Spawn”, a Black-Red deck that brings the creepy crawlers in form of Eldrazi Spawns into play as a major focus. Let’s not waste any time and get to look at what the deckbuilders were cooking here.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Katamari Damacy

Image

Game: Katamari Damacy
Developer: Namco
Genre: Puzzle Game
Releases:
– Katamari Damacy: 2004 (Playstation 2)
– Katamari Damacy Reroll: 2018 (Nintendo Switch, Windows), 2020 (Playstation 4, Xbox One)
Stalk’s Rating: 8/10

Let me ask you, dear reader: Why does rolling round things in games often make for quirky good fun? I have reviewed all the “Rock of Ages” games on Cubic Creativity before and while that series had to a lukewarm ending due to ACE Team giving it to another studio, the first two entries were good fun; but also headscratchers because it does not seem all that obvious of a game to develop. Another ball-shaped entry comes from the other end of the world, Japan to be exact; and it takes the usual portion of weird that you would assume to be in everything the Japanese touch. You might have heard of it, the name is “Katamacy Damacy”; and while the title itself does not seem to mean all that much, its impact on video games as a whole cannot be understated. And I played it and enjoyed the title; as you can read in the paragraphs below.
