Vacation, Part 2

Every last member of the original Wilson clan ended up being in Utah while we were there. This type of cosmic event happens more rarely than we'd like, but we have a great time when we are all together. G loved his Grandpa and Uncles and Aunt and especially adored his cousins, Abbie and Oaklee.

Vacation, Part 1

It's a little overwhelming to fill you all in on the past two weeks, so I'm going to write a few entries about our vacation.

Two Fridays ago we took G on a plane for the first time. We were stressed out about it because we hadn't bought him a seat and knew we would be working with a newly crawling kid in a space about the size of a shoe box. Jen tends towards claustrophobia and I get panic attacks on planes, so with our mental health compromised (more than usual) we set to work to entertain the baby for the 6 odd hours from Boston to Salt Lake, hoping hoping hoping that he would sleep. We had great luck in our neighbor, a baby loving gay man named Kevin, who took us under his wing, hopped out of his aisle seat whenever we needed it, got us a blanket, and went for a long walk when we had to change G's diaper. We love Kevin so much. Graham was entertained by the people and the noise and made no complaints the whole trip.

We arrived, got our car, and drove the hour to our splurge: we had rented an apartment in a large cabin above the Sundance resort. It was expensive, but here's a shot of the view from our front door.

And here's one of how cute Jen and Graham looked in the mountains.

Graham loved to dine al fresco.

And hang out outside. We had awesome squirrel and bird visitors.

So, the setting was fantastic; even better, my family came up a lot to barbecue and hang out. I'll get to the meeting of the Wilsons in my next post....

Where in the world...?

Missing us? We're in Utah, visiting my family. We'll be back in Boston in a week (with lots of photos to share).

And for those of you who knew how anxious we were about the flight, G was a rock star. The flight attendants thanked us as we left the plane. I did ok, too, so we made it through that first travel hurdle with aplomb.

Two People Graham loves....

Image
Molly, the dog. G loooooves to sit next to her. Molly, for her part, has been a champ about it.

Image
Marius, the French cousin, now on his way back to France. In this photo, Marius plays the clarinet for Graham, who was almost as interested in that as he is in Molly's leash. Almost.

The Downside of City Living

Our stoller, the love of my life, was stolen from our porch today.

Who, me?

Jen talked to her mom last night, and she (Catherine) commented that Graham has been looking very handsome in pictures. Well. I agree, of course, but offer the following as proof that he is also, often, an unholy wreck, especially since we have been encouraging him to begin to learn that he can feed himself. This morning he massaged strawberry/banana puree all over his arms and face, quite methodically, until there was nothing for it but a shower. Check out the sideways grin- he's quite keen on himself here.

Graham is 8 months old today....

and is fascinated by the strap on our camera. Here's what you get when you try to take pictures in our house these days.

Happy G-day, everyone!

We dropped by Amber and Marlon's today and they tried out their new SLR camera on Graham.

Here, G shows off his latest party-trick, the assisted stand. Check out his hair.

Who is this big strong Canadian man taking my picture? I'm in awe of him.

Is this crawling? Do we have a CRAWLER?

DONE!

Here's a peek at the new living room, painting courtesy of Jen and Marius. Doesn't it look fancy?

G+Filipa: The Love Affair Continues

We've talked about the passion between Graham and his Auntie before, but, um, these pictures are, like, more than PG-13 rated.

No Umbrella Drink For You

You know, everyone who is not a teacher thinks teachers live the high life all summer. You know: beach, camping, lounging in a hammock, etc. Well, maybe somebody gets that, but it's not us. This summer has become a non-stop lineup of family visit, family visit, friend visit, and, oh yeah, painting. Jen has responded to the stress of multiple house guests by insisting that we replace the yellow paint in our living/dining rooms with blue and green. Yes, gentle reader, you might guess that a major household project would only ADD stress, but that's not how Jen rolls.

So, we're painting tomorrow. Rather: one of us will paint while the other one stops Graham from eating things he's not supposed to or wedging himself under the sofa or trying to stand AGAIN and then falling down on his ass or head. Anyone want to come help?
