Using MoviePro to Vine/Instagram my videos

So it looks like I found an app that uses the shoot and pause editing effects that made Vine so popular (not to mention Instagram Videos as well).

Image
It’s called MoviePro and so far I love it! (especially the secret camera part!)
You can even zoom in (or out) while recording which is an added bonus! 🙂
You can also reduce the frame rate for effects shots (I wouldn’t recommend this) and take photos while recording a video (a feature that many video apps are still not using!)
Unfortunately the app only supports Camera Roll and YouTube uploading (I’ve requested Vimeo support but Tumblr, WordPress, et al, would be nice).
Note: Finally located the company behind the app: seeitwithus.com/moviepro.htm

Want Evernote Clearly on iOS? Just use Lightly!

Woke up this morning greeted by another round of boring updates with one exception.

Image

So like any good geek I went and purchased Lightly for 299 pennies (er…$2.99 USD)

Basically it’s like a stripped down version of Evernote Clearly but for iOS.
You basically highlight any text in any browser (like Google Chrome)…
Image

…and it will automagically appear the next time you open the Lightly app! (which syncs with your Evernote account).
Image

Sadly Lightly doesn’t highlight the text in the app that you originally copied from the browser (note: this needed within Lightly) although you can do this yourself manually inside Lightly.
Update: Apparently Lightly does automagically highly the text within the app, although it didn’t do it for the coffe lover article (others are working fine though).
Image
Another item Lightly could improve upon is the ability to share upon more social networks (say App.net and Tumblr) but in the age of IFTTT (another great app!) that isn’t as critical any more.
Ironically I love Lightly so much that I decided to make room for it on my home screen (and yes, I have a whole row dedicated to Evernote and friends!).

Note: Sadly the official Lightly website (over at LightlyApp.com) is down, although the IgnitionSoft team’s corporate website is up! (http://ignition.hk/).

Using @IFTTT to semi-automagically push @Medium posts to Twitter

Even though Medium.com lacks an iOS app (which is desperately needed), I decided that I’m going to attempt to include it on “the list” of platforms to write upon.

That said what really annoyed me about Medium was the lack of a way to push posts upon Twitter (or even the beloved App.net) and since Google’s FeedBurner was not exactly cooperating (sadness) I decided to use IFTTT.com iOS app instead.
If you’re a geek then you don’t need to RTFM (a phrase often repeated to newbie’s apparently–and Google the acronym for the full meaning).
For everyone else who isn’t a geek and has an IFTTT plus Medium account, here is a step-by-step guide to semi-automagically have your Medium posts tweeted to the twitterverse.
Here we go!

1) Within IFTTT click on the “recipe bowl” icon located in the top right corner.
Image

2) Then click on the “+” icon in the top right corner.
Image

3) Search for the orange Feed icon, then tap on the first blue + button.
Image

4) Type in medium.com/feed/@username where “username” is the screen name to your Medium profile (mine is @Darnell for instance). Then tap on the blue Continue button.
Image

5) Next tap on the red + button
Image

6) Locate the Twitter bird icon on the slider (slide towards the left to view it on the right), then tap on the first blue + icon.
Image

7) Last, tap on the Finish button and now the twitterverse can enjoy your meaty messages upon Medium! 🙂

Note: For those of you on App.net the steps are the same, you just swap out Twitter for App.net. 🙂

You Win @Evernote. Switching to Google Drive for @IFTTT Recipes

So after downloading the IFTTT iOS app (which stands for If This, Then That for you non-geeks out there) I’ve discovered to my horror that using Evernote for anything within IFTTT results in this error below:

Image

I thought it might have something to do with using 2-factor authentication but then again I use that for other sites as well (like Google Drive).
Fortunately I have an alternative to Evernote that seems to be working (Google  Drive to be precise) although I wish it was upon Evernote’s servers instead of the Google Goliath’s.

Coming Soon(ish): A @Medium iPhone App?

According to a tweet exchange between @FAUX_SHO and @Medium, it looks like an iPhone app is on the way!

Image
So far I like Medium (I’m @Darnell over there for what it’s worth) but creating content via mobile web is the complete opposite of the desktop experience (the latter which is awesome by the way).
Glad an iPhone app is in the works, but sad that no time table for it has been revealed so far.

Want the “Ћ” in iOS? Here’s how!

So Ћ Verge (pun intended) recently wrote an article about one mad scientist plot to make the English language simpler to use by giving a symbol to “the” (sort of like how “and” has “&”).

Note: I’ll add the links later as Blogger for iOS took away the ability to insert links. Sadness. 🙁 🙂 Links added!

The symbol he chose was: Ћ

If you want to use it upon your iOS device simply tap on the Settings App…

Image

…then tap on the General option…

Image

…then scroll down and tap on the Keyboard option.

Image

Next, tap on the Keyboards option…

Image

…then tap on Add New Keyboard… option.

Image

Scroll down until you locate Serbian, and tap on it to add Serbian as a keyboard option.

Image

Open up a note, blog, etcetera app and after the keyboard pops up tap upon the Globe button (note: you may have to do this multiple times if you have other keyboards.

Your sacred Ћ symbol will be located in the corner here:

That’s it! Enjoy! 😛

Instagram Leapfrogs Vine On iOS

Facebook’s photo giant has finally pulled ahead of Twitter’s video wonder as the two have officially traded places (at least within the US iOS app store).

Image

Vine will probably hold their own upon the App Store, although they need to redouble their efforts upon Google Play as they’re getting killed upon Android.

Image

Image

Note: Some of my friends still use Vine, although most have abandoned it for Instagram as the former is still hit and miss when it comes to locating people (yes Vine, those vanity URL’s and/or unique usernames do work).

NSA Trend Of Note: I Call Less

So I’ve noticed that I call people less (and vice versa) via the default phone app after discovering that the NSA monitors every phone call in the US of A.

Image

I barely called before due the prevalence of so many superior alternatives like video calling (via Google+ Hangouts, FaceTime,  etcetera) and messaging (iMessage, Snapchat, App.net, Twitter, et al).
But after the NSA revelations I have (without realizing it) shifted most of my phone calls to strictly business.
My data usage (when iPhone isn’t randomly hoping upon WiFi networks) remains the same however.
Image
Perhaps this all might change later in if I start utilizing secure phone calling apps (as there are many but they are pricy).
But for now it’s getting to the point when phone conversations are becoming less of a feature now that I realize Big Brother is listening to everything I do.

Vine to Instagram: What InstaVideo Threat?

It looks like Vine is surviving–no thriving despite Instagram launching InstaVideos (er…Instagram with Videos) recently.

At least within the App Store (US charts) Vine is still holding their own, even beating Google Maps for iOS in the top 10 charts.
Image
Contrast that with Instagram who has been slipping down the charts recently, with even Snapchat (an app Facebook failed to kill off via Facebook Poke) beating them on the iOS charts.
Image
Now the App Store only reflects downloads and (to my knowledge) not activity so the reality could be entirely different.
Example: Instagram is closer to saturating the US market so not as many people would need to download it while Vine still has a small user base.

While I’m glad that Instagram has finally embraced Video I wouldn’t count out Twitter’s micro video app just yet!
