Monochrome Weekend: Self Portrait

ImageFish eye mirror on the ceiling at intersecting hallways in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. I tried to do this with a film camera, but couldn't get the centering right, so I resorted to using a compact digital Nikon.

Monochrome Weekend: Machine

Image
The old Kamm Brewery in Mishawaka is now a complex of stores and bars called The 100 Center, but some of the equipment from the brewery is displayed on the grounds. This machine was captured with a Kodak Hawkeye Brownie Flash camera with a flipped lens. Flipping the lens results in a "sweet spot" of focus in the center, with blurring toward the edges.

Monochrome Weekend: Clock

This picture is a collaboration between a cousin in Iowa and myself. I shot a roll of film, rewound it and mailed it to him. He did a second set of exposures on the roll, and this is one of the resulting photos.

Monochrome Weekend: Monument

ImageI have driven through the small town of Wyatt, Indiana fairly often over the past twenty years, but only recently noticed this strange tableau about a block off the highway. I've since learned it was placed there by the owner of the lot and the adjacent house, but so far the only explanation I've gotten as to why he put this small plane and sculpture here is, "He's different."

Froggy

ImageOur granddaughter Magnolia found an amphibian in her yard. She calls it Froggy. I'm not sure if it's a frog or a toad, but it really doesn't matter. She decided it could have a nice home at our fishpond, so she brought it over yesterday. After she released it, Froggy found a lily pad to rest on.

ImageMagnolia was upset and crying when she had to leave Froggy and go in the house, but like most 2 1/2 year olds, she quickly recovered.

Monochrome Weekend: So THAT'S Why...

ImageI went to great lengths for this double exposure. The rooster resides in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and the egg is in Mentone, Indiana, some 68 miles away. I shot a roll of 12 exposures of the rooster, then rewound the film and loaded it back in my Holga 120N. At the earliest opportunity, I drove down to Mentone and shot the egg. I had no idea how the double exposures would turn out till I developed the film. I'm going to be submitting a few to the 2010 Holgapalooza contest, which includes a "Roadside Attraction" category.
