We took the girls to "santa town", as they have come to call it, over the weekend for their annual Christmas Festival! It's a Bavarian town in the middle of the Cascade Mountains and A&E dubbed it as "The Ultimate Holiday Town in the USA" and it's been featured 2 years in a row on GMA and the Travel Channel. We went there once before for their Ocktoberfest celebrations but this weekend was the best event we've even been to! The nice thing was it was truly a Christmas celebration - not a "holiday" festival. Hymns were being sung by carolers in the streets and prayers were said before the start of the lighting ceremony. i definitely think we will be returning for many years to come!! i never feel like when we are in the presence of such beauty and awesome nature, that my pictures can do it any type of justice, but you can check out their website: http://www.leavenworth.org/modules/pages/index.php?pageid=1
some scenery getting there . . not as much snow as we were thinking we'd see in the mountains on the way. but once we actually arrived in town, you could tell they'd gotten quite a bit.

in the center of town they had a small sledding hill. we'll have to remember that for next year!

the horse drawn carriage through the town. layla really wanted to go for a ride - i told her we'd do it when grandma and grandpa visit - we are hoping to take my parents back with us!

live muscians were set up for the day in the town square

wishin and hopin santa will put this under the tree :) the shops there have some amazing things!

warming up in a pub for lunch

finally!!!! layla wouldn't go near any of the characters walking around (and norah really wouldn't either) but this year Ella finally enjoys it!!! so, at this rate, in 4-5 years i'll get a great pic of all the girls with santa :)

rudloph!

the nutcracker! she liked that one :)

the trip wouldn't have been complete without a visit to the fudge shop :) here's ella eating the biggest p-nut butter cup EVER - and she ate it all!! i didn't think it would make a good pic for you to see me stuffing my face with p'but butter chococlate fudge . .but ohhh it was yummy!!

getting ready for the official start of the lighting ceremony

a choir from seattle was there singing carols

i'm not a writer but i'm going to try to adequately describe this lighting parade. honestly, it felt like someone had put us into a Hallmark Christmas movie - and i say that in a good way :) a pastor came out to say a prayer and "father christmas" came out, in what was explained to be a Euporean tradition - to shoot off 3 canons to ward off any evil spirits and to welcome the season and the Christ child. at that point, from each end of town 3 people began walking with lit christmas stars and as they passed by each building, their lights would come on. that would've been nice enough for me - but than this happened. as this is taking place, the crowd is very quiet, the choir starts singing Silent Night and it began to snow! it was so on cue, it was literally like God had planned it :) and that's the only snow we had all day and night! and of course, i was crying, because, well that's me :) during this time, ella looks at me and says, "you know what mommy, this gives me Christmas joy!" - c'mon - you'd be crying too :) the only word i can say is magical!
you couldn't ask for a better back drop!

if you're ever in the PNW for Christmas, you've got to see this!!! and that's really just a shameful ploy to get some of you to some see us :)
