Pickin beans and squashing up baby bumble bees..

Getting Clare's update on Jack put me in the mood to write about Emma. Clare says, I only listened (to mom's stories of their little ones) with half an ear...maybe three quarters.....not because i didn't care but bc i honestly just couldn't understand how such a tiny life could be so full of seemingly mundane occurances and then be so lauded over. " I have to agree with Clare when she says she looks at Jack and she is CAPTIVATED! Here are a few things that I want to record mainly so Emma can read them when she is older...but also for anyone who might be interested in the lastest little delights! Abby taught her Baby Bumble Bee....with is the perfect song for Emma! She loves to say, "Ouch, it stung me!" This just makes her laugh. And then she loves to squish up her baby bumble bee and then say, "Eeewweee, eeeewwwweeeee!"

Emma loves to put her forehead against mine...so that we both look like we have a mono-eye...and squeal with delight because she know that I am going to tickle her! She LOVES to be tickled and to tickle back. She will put her neck really close to my mouth anticipating a rasberry with a huge smile on her face. She has her daddy's ticklish feet and my habit of falling asleep with a book in hand.

How do you describe the awesomeness of seeing a child learn to use language. The first surprise was her saying, "Bless you" after Doug sneezed. We don't even say it all that often to each other...it was all her. We are always praising her, saying Good girl, you are so smart. We had a laugh when she went to Doug and said, "Good girl, daddy!" At the beginning of the week, I had my first real conversation with her on the phone complete with, hello mommie and i love you and bye daddy( she get's us mixed up sometimes). At the sound of her sweet baby voice, I nearly got in my car and drove home to give her a bear hug.

Her personality is so multifacited and fascinating to discover. She is in ways such a girly girl....she looked at my mop bucket and said "shooshoo, mommie, ehhwwwy, ehhhwwwy". But then the tomboy in her came out and she put her hands in the water to splash it at me! She likes to terrorize the kitties. She thinks it's hysterical when she has succeeded in getting them to run away from her..which they do often. But she's also very gentle when she pets them.

We harvested beans from our friends garden....it was such fun to all be out there with our buckets talking and working our way down the line. It takes lots of people to do the work....and I can imagine folks all coming together to harvest a crop...some folks picking it, others preparing it for storage, and others putting it up all the while sharing stories. I must have been a farmer in a former life, because I loved it. I love living in the south and being a part of an agrarian culture. We'll get another chance when the corn is ready. And this evening we'll be picking blueberries, well, eating them at least! I just discovered that there is a cannery here in Ellijay..one of the last remaining cannerys in the state.

Emma, one day when you read this...I want you to know what a DELIGHT you are to us....
