Inspiration
AM BONES was born from my love for real-life dominoes—the energy, the strategy, and the camaraderie around the table. I aimed to capture that authentic experience and bring it to mobile players in Meta Horizon Worlds. The goal was to create a space where anyone could tap in, play quickly, and feel the thrill of the game, just like in a real-life setting.
What it does
AM BONES is a mobile-first, tap-to-play dominoes game designed for quick, strategic matches. Players can join, place tiles, and compete in a sleek, social environment optimized for mobile devices. The game offers an intuitive interface, real-time score tracking, and a dynamic atmosphere that mirrors the excitement of traditional dominoes.
How we built it
I developed AM BONES using the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor, focusing on mobile responsiveness. The project was built entirely with tools available to the public and MHCP members. I implemented custom scripting for tile logic, turn management, and UI components to ensure a seamless experience on mobile devices. Feedback from playtesters was instrumental in refining the game’s mechanics and user interface.
Challenges we ran into
Adapting the tactile nature of dominoes to a mobile interface was a significant challenge. Without VR gestures, I had to design an interaction system that felt natural and responsive using tap controls. Balancing the game’s visual elements to maintain clarity on smaller screens while preserving the immersive feel was also a complex task.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
I’m proud of how AM BONES successfully translates the essence of dominoes into a mobile format without losing its core appeal. The game’s intuitive controls, engaging gameplay, and authentic atmosphere have resonated with players. Seeing users quickly grasp the mechanics and enjoy the game as intended has been incredibly rewarding.
What we learned
This project enhanced my skills in optimizing gameplay for mobile platforms within Meta Horizon Worlds. I gained valuable experience in UI/UX design, scripting for touch interactions, and balancing performance with visual fidelity. The process also taught me the importance of user feedback in iterative development.

What’s next for AM BONES
I’m planning to introduce competitive tournaments and launch a virtual dominoes league within AM BONES. This will allow players to participate in structured competitions, climb leaderboards, and engage in a vibrant community of domino enthusiasts. These additions aim to enhance the competitive spirit and foster a sense of camaraderie among players.
