Inspiration
When someone is emotionally overwhelmed, they don’t want to experiment, compare options, or decide what might help. They are already carrying a mental load.
From my own experience, I realized that healing can take many forms:
🌸 Listening to positive affirmations
🧘 Practicing meditation
💬 Talking to an AI, a friend, or a therapist
The problem? All these supports are scattered — and deciding where to go becomes another burden.
That’s why I built bothered? — one calm space where emotional support comes together.
What it does
🧠 What the App Does ✨ Core Features
💬 AI Companion — Luma Luma symbolizes light in darkness and offers empathetic, non-judgmental conversations.
🌸 Positive Affirmations Positive affirmations to gently uplift mood.
🧘 Meditation & Calming Music Built-in music to slow the mind and regulate emotions.
👥 Trusted Contacts Save close friends or family to reach out easily.
📍 Mental Health Support Map Shows country-specific mental health resources.
📅 Mood Tracking Calendar Track daily emotions like happy, sad, anxious, or stressed.
🚨 Early Warning Alerts If prolonged low moods are detected, the app gently encourages seeking support
How we built it
✨ Bothered? was built with one goal: make help feel effortless when emotions feel heavy.
⚛️ React + Tailwind CSS → calm, minimal, soothing UI
🧠 Node.js + Express → secure, scalable backend
🗄️ MongoDB → mood logs, contacts, and user data
🤖 Groq AI → powers Luma, our empathetic AI companion
🗺️ Leaflet + OpenStreetMap → location-based mental health support
📅 Mood pattern detection → triggers gentle care alerts
💡 The app thinks for the user when the user can’t.
Challenges we ran into
⚠️ Mental health apps demand extra care.
😌 Designing a UI that feels safe, not clinical
🤝 Making AI responses supportive, not overwhelming
⚖️ Balancing many features without cognitive overload
🚨 Creating alerts that help, not scare
🔐 Protecting sensitive emotional data
Accomplishments that we're proud of
🌟 This project is more than features — it’s intention.
🧩 Unified multiple healing options into one calm space
💚 Built Luma, an AI that listens before it speaks
🧠 Reduced decision fatigue during emotional distress
🚑 Added preventive care, not just reactive support
🌱 Designed with empathy at the core
What we learned
📖 This project reshaped how we think about building tech.
💭 Empathy > complexity
🎨 Calm design can heal
🤖 AI must support, not replace humans
🛡️ Preventive mental health care matters
✂️ Sometimes the best feature is removal
