Inspiration
Really used this opportunity to learn; navmesh, AI, networking - especially networking.
What it does
Colocated space where multiple players shoot and destroy incoming spaceships that are targeting a networked object, but will explode if shot by you or your co-defender also!
How we built it
Used navmesh system and learned networking. BTW, the networked grabbable objects and all the Building Blocks made this project doable! Frankly, without the quick prototyping of the Building Blocks I'd be screwed!
Challenges we ran into
Can't figure out in the time alloted how to include vertical movement with navmesh! Plus, took a long time to debug spaceships trapped in walls. Surprisingly, found networking kinda just made sense.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Really proud of finally learning network and the coding that goes into it - I decided from the start that I would handwrite - and understand(!) - all the code.
What we learned
Full on first try at networking - what a great way to build!
What's next for Defend Grab
This is just a demo to prove out the concept - I know it's kinda bare, but I'm ok with that. I'm really looking forward to building out a vertical component to the navmesh travel; thinking maybe vertical navmeshs or hidden ramps.
