defrosted allows students struggling with anxiety to feel more comfortable and accommodated in the classroom space. Through energizing games, journaling, and creative self-expression, students find passion and joy in their academic spaces. defrosted puts students into online, small groups where they will solely focus on playing games that foster creativity (e.g. guess the drawing, come up with new foods) together each day of class, allowing them to naturally get acquainted with one another without the anxiety of having to directly approach others. Furthermore, the detailed profile customization allows users to express their creativity through colors, hobbies, and description of themselves, something those with anxiety may not feel comfortable expressing in person. Anxiety may make it difficult to ask questions in class or become friends with other classmates, making classes feel extremely isolating and negatively impacting performance. With defrosted, students are eased into becoming friends with their peers through energizing activities within a small group overtime. These are both social aspects, however, there is also a journaling feature that is private and allows the user to reflect on their mood and talk about anything they want.
My main design decisions were profile customization and the journaling feature. I knew I wanted to allow users to express themselves the best that they could, therefore I opted to allowing for a lot of customization in terms of how they present themselves online. Being able to have control over how you present yourself can calm nerves, especially if you have anxiety around how other people perceive you. A feature that I'm really grateful I added was the "traits/hobbies" to choose when customizing your profile. This is a very quick and efficient way of getting what you like across and allows other people with the same interests to immediately recognize you as someone they may get along with. The choice to make them organic buttons rather than have the user type their traits out allows the user to not have to overthink what they do or don't like, simplifying and grounding the profile creation process. I used a similar set up for the journaling page, where users can choose what moods they are feeling and are given a text box where they can elaborate on how they feel. The instructions on this page are very open, giving users freedom to express how they may feel in regards to anything. This allows the user to feel in control and ground themselves, both of which are mechanisms that allow oneself to feel satisfactory.
Usages: For icons, I used the Figma plugin Basicons Icon Set by Iconduck and Iconify. For images used to mimic user profiles and photographs (for demo), I used the Figma plugin User profile | Avatar and AI image generator by Freepik.
