Inspiration

EarnNest was inspired by the many unbanked and underbanked who lack access to traditional financial services, pushing us to create a solution that aids those with less access to banking.

What it does

EarnNest allows underbanked users to have access to certain banking services such as easy deposit systems and investment advising, along with an real time in-app finance tracker. Initially, we have user authentication for enhanced security. Next, users are asked to fill a questionnaire where we get to know about their financial information, along with financial goals. Later, they are taken to our dashboad where they can upload a receipt file of any transaction, and through our Google Cloud OCR, we extract the transactions, display them, and update them in the bank balance, making it much easier to track your expenses. We also have a blend of financial literacy through our very own chatbot, Poyo! Through the fast calls from SambaNova API, we are able to give efficient and smart responses to the underbanked!

How we built it

SambaNova API, Google Cloud OCR, Firebase, MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js

Challenges we ran into

It was our first time working with OCR and the Google Cloud, which had a steep learning curve as it involved parsing data and extracting vital information for banking insights. It was also our first time working with SambaNova API. Although it was very easy-to-use, we definitely got to tackle some obstacles along the way!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Implementing SambaNova API in a unique way, by using it for financial advising, in combination with Google Cloud OCR to aid underbanked individuals by scanning and parsing receipts.

What we learned

We learned to implement several technologies and APIs while gaining insight into the lack of equitable finance in certain areas.

What's next for EarnNest

We plan to link banking systems to our app, allowing users to access more services. We are also looking to implement our own in-app debt repayment and investment technology.
