✨💡 Inspiration
We took our inspiration from a well-known game mechanic: the clicker game. There are plenty of different clicker games, such as cookie clicker. But instead of pointless clicking for the sake of getting a bigger number, we decided to make this clicker meaningful. The user can still have fun, but he can also make some decisions that will have an impact on his progress, as well as shift his mind towards ecological thinking and connected topics. 🌍 This way, we can make the process of becoming aware not only informative but also fun. 🌱
🤔❓What it does
EcoClicker is a Flutter-developed game blending engaging gameplay with real-world environmental challenges. Players make ⚡energy choices affecting the 🌍planet's health, balancing energy points and 😷pollution points.
Gameplay Mechanics
⚡Energy vs. 😷Pollution Points:
- Earn energy by clicking on Earth and choosing/buying energy sources using the energy currency.
- Fossil fuels generate quicker energy but also add pollution points.
😷 Pollution Impact:
- Accumulating pollution points leads to visible deterioration of Earth's health.
- Reaching a critical level of pollution results in an uninhabitable Earth and game over.
🎯Strategies to Reduce Pollution:
Switch to Renewables♻️: Gradually shift to renewable energy sources to reduce pollution. Clean-Up Initiatives🤝🏻: Users can buy tree planting, ocean cleanups, and other eco-friendly energy sources to lower pollution levels. Eco-Technology Upgrades🛠️: Use energy to invest in technologies that reduce the overall pollution impact of energy sources. Public Awareness Campaigns⚠️: In-game campaigns that temporarily slow down pollution accumulation or boost renewable energy efficiency.
⚡Energy sources: There are two types of energy sources:
- 🏭Non-ecological energy source: This energy source will cost less, produce more energy per unit time, but also produce pollution. Example: Coal power plant, Nuclear power plant, etc...
- 🍃Ecological energy source: This energy source will cost more and produce less energy than the non-eco friendly energy source, but it doesn't produce pollution, and some can even reduce pollution. Example: forest, hydroelectric plant, etc.
👁️🗨️Visual and Educational Impact:
- Dynamic Earth model showing the real-time impact of energy choices.
- Educational content detailing sustainable practices and their benefits.
How We Built It 🚀
First, we crafted the initial UI using Flutter widgets, setting the foundation for our eco-clicker game. Then, we brought in the sleek designs from Figma, refining our visuals for an engaging user experience. All code snippets and tasks were meticulously organized in Notion, keeping our project on track. Weekly check-ins on Bitbucket allowed us to monitor progress and collaborate seamlessly. Our tech stack included Flutter Bloc for robust state management, Go Router for efficient navigation, and Google Fonts to enhance typography. We leveraged Provider for dependency injection and incorporated dynamic elements like marquee texts to elevate our game's appeal. Through teamwork and dedication, we fused creativity with functionality, culminating in a captivating eco-clicker game that educates and entertains. 🌱🎮
💪Challenges we ran into
We had struggles with time limits and time-estimating different tasks, as well as struggles with finding the right people for our team. For the first part of this challenge, only three of us were actively engaging in the process, which is why it was harder to move fast. Closer to the end, we were able to find more members that were helping us to finish this project. At times, we also had misunderstandings within the team, but luckily, we were able to overcome these challenges.
🏆Accomplishments We're Proud Of
Throughout our journey🏃, we've celebrated not just technical achievements but personal growth and sustainability impact. We've deepened our understanding of sustainability, driving change within ourselves. Transitioning from plastic to eco-friendly options like jute bags, we've acknowledged the grave threat of plastic pollution. Choosing 🚆public transport over private vehicles, we've lessened our carbon footprint for cleaner air. These shifts reflect our dedication to a healthier, sustainable future. As we revel in our eco-clicker game's success, we also rejoice in the positive changes we've embraced, both individually and for our planet. 🌍🌱
🎓What we learned
Each of us learned a lot of new things during this project. Not only did we learn new technologies and software, but we also improved our soft skills, such as time management, communication, and teamwork.
🔜What's next for Eco Clicker?
We have plenty of ideas for the future of Eco Clicker. For example, we want to make pollution mechanics more complicated, work on game balance, introduce new types of energy sources and gameplay mechanics, and upgrade the art and design of the app.
