Inspiration

Growing up, Alyssa trained taekwondo for 8 years ‼️

Ethan has friends studying at universities in dangerous cities 🫵

The majority of the people they care about and students all across the U.S. are not armed with the knowledge Alyssa grew up with

Problem

We live in a world where personal safety is not guaranteed.

Baltimore, is ranked the 4th most dangerous city in the US 💀

Safety threats impact us on a daily basis, with 40 % of americans fearing for their safety while walking alone at night

And when violent crimes happen, it can cost someone their life ⚰️

Yet, less than 1% of Americans know self-defense; virtually no one knows how to protect themselves.

Why? 🤔

Because learning self defense is time consuming and expensive 💰👎

It traditionally takes hours of practice and lots of money, making it inaccessible for most. 😩😩

Our Solution

Kravity is a digital platform that makes Krav Maga training fast and fun, making it easy for anyone to master self-defense, anytime, anywhere 🤯

Why Krav Maga you ask?🧐

Krav maga is adjusted to modern threats like knives and guns, and also is effective for anyone of any size, gender, and strength.

Krav Maga is not just a martial art but a modern system of survival.

Features

With AI-powered pose detection and a voice-enabled coach, users get instant, personalized feedback 🥶🥶

With multiplayer modes and a competitive points system, users stay motivated while learning in short, manageable lessons.

Challenges we ran into

We had an issue with Gemini continuing to run after the page moved on, using up a lot of credits unnecessarily 😢

Staying up 24/7 was really physically demanding 🪦

Getting the MediaPipe Pose OpenCV to work took a very long time

Biggest difficulty was trying to integrate our projects with one another

Version control and merge conflicts were definitely a big issue, but eventually we were able to work together more smoothly

Accomplishments we are proud of

As first time HopHacks participants, we are incredibly proud of the potential of this project to make an impact on those within the city.

Coming to Baltimore, we were excited to meet up with out friends, but were devastated to find out that Baltimore ranked as the 4th most dangerous city in America

Immediately we went to work devising a solution to help our friends, the students of HopHacks, and the people of Baltimore better protect themselves from outside threats.

Our team did a fantastic job embracing the challenge of using technology unfamiliar to us, and stepped out of our comfort zones to bring our idea to life.

Whether it was building the machine learning algorithm to calculate the accuracy percentage, or integrating MediaPipe technology, to designing the flow of the site, we ended up building a robust prototype which far surpassed our initial expectations.
