Inspiration
The idea for Loaded came from personal experience as a creator who felt exploited by mainstream platforms. I realized creators - especially in Africa - are building the internet's value but rarely own or earn from it fairly. The decentralization boom sparked a vision: what if we could flip that model? What if creators owned the ecosystem they fueled?
What it does
Loaded will be a decentralized social media platform that empowers creators with:
- Ownership of their content and data
- Fair monetization through a native token
- Community-based growth without centralized algorithms
- Marketplace tools for digital products, subscriptions, and services
How we built it
Loaded is currently in the idea and planning stage, but here’s what we’ve mapped out so far:
- Developed detailed platform architecture and creator journey flows
- Built wireframes and early mockups in Figma
- Defined a scalable tech stack (React, Nest.js, PostgreSQL, Heroku)
- Planned smart contract functionality with ethers.js and Web3.js
- Designed the token utility system for $LODE, the native currency of the platform
Challenges we ran into
- Translating a Web3 concept into a simple, user-first platform
- Communicating a vision without a live MVP
- Accessing funding at the idea stage, without giving up equity in the parent company
- Bridging the gap between creative communities and blockchain infrastructure
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a bold, future-proof concept with strong market relevance
- Created community traction and interest before development
- Designed a creator-first token economy that solves real industry pain points
- Got selected to pitch at multiple platforms and funding events with just the idea
What we learned
- Creators care more about control and simplicity than tech jargon
- There's a hunger for community-owned platforms, especially in Africa and the global South
- Good ideas can travel far if they speak to real, underserved needs
- Clarity of vision is more valuable than over-engineering at this stage
What's next for Loaded
- Launching a fundraising campaign to bring the prototype to life
- Building a small dev team to start MVP development
- Testing token utility with early creator collaborators
- Growing the Dope Neighborhood community to co-create and refine features
- Developing pitch decks, grant proposals, and strategic partnerships for long-term growth
