Inspiration
We wanted to simplify receipts and reduce paper waste. Paper receipts are generally unneeded and discarded. The BPA/BPS coating in modern receipts makes them unrecyclable.
What it does
No receipt is used as a central storage of a user's receipts through OCR and barcode technology.
How we built it
We built a mobile app with react native and expo. The front end was simulated using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges that were run into during the project were issues getting a google cloud account set up. We had also never attempted a mobile application before. OCR documentation was challenging to understand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the prototype created in the limited time.
What we learned
We learned that OCR technology has a long way to go. Some open-source software like Google's Cloud Vision API has issues recognizing certain types of text formats. We learned about nest.js.
What's next for NoReceipt
Expansion into full OCR capabilities.
