-Inspiration
OmMind XR was inspired by the depth and precision of authentic Tibetan meditation and Buddhist wisdom, combined with a belief that immersive technology can become a true medium for inner practice—not just entertainment. While much of modern mindfulness technology focuses on quick relaxation and surface-level wellness, we set out to preserve the depth of genuine contemplative training through spatial computing.
Mixed Reality uniquely allows users to step into a distraction-free, embodied environment where attention, breath, sound, and space work together. This made it possible to translate ancient inner technologies into interactive, experiential XR forms without reducing their integrity. OmMind XR is built at the intersection of authentic traditional meditation training and immersive design, using XR not to stimulate the senses, but to support presence, stillness, and deep awareness.
-What it does
OmMind XR is an interactive mixed reality meditation and healing experience rooted in authentic contemplative practice. It helps users cultivate emotional balance, deep awareness, and mental clarity through:
Guided chakra meditation sessions to calm the mind and balance inner energy
Interactive breathwork for nervous system regulation and vitality
Sleep-focused deep relaxation journeys
An interactive sound-healing sanctuary with playable virtual instruments
Rather than watching content, users inhabit the practice—turning meditation into a lived, embodied experience.
-How we built it
OmMind XR was built using Unity and Meta Quest Mixed Reality tools. The environment design focuses on minimalism, calm spatial composition, and embodied interaction rather than overstimulation. Meditation logic, breath timing, and sound interactions were developed to follow authentic contemplative pacing rather than game mechanics.
We designed the experience to work in both seated stillness and light spatial interaction, allowing accessibility for different levels of physical mobility and meditation experience.
-Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was designing for stillness inside an interactive medium. Most XR design prioritizes action, novelty, and constant stimulation—directly opposing meditation. We had to intentionally undo many standard XR habits to preserve silence, slowness, and inner attention.
Another major challenge was balancing authenticity with accessibility: staying true to real contemplative practice while still building a product understandable to modern users with no prior meditation background.
-Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully launched our first public prototype build
Implemented a fully immersive meditation + breathwork flow in Mixed Reality
Designed an interactive sound-healing space, not just passive audio
Most importantly, we proved that XR can support stillness—not just stimulation.
-What we learned
We learned that immersive technology can amplify presence when used with restraint. Less visual noise produces more depth. We also learned that users instinctively slow down in MR spaces when sound, light, and interaction are harmonized correctly. Finally, we learned how to translate ancient meditation principles into spatial, interactive logic.
-What's next for OmMind XR
Future development will expand into:
AI-supported contemplative guidance
Multi-user shared meditation spaces
Our long-term vision is to build a true contemplative XR platform, where ancient inner technologies meet spatial computing to support modern human wellbeing.
