Inspiration
We were inspired by exploratory research into performance appraisal which did not yield any specific research into blue collar workers. After identifying that gap in research, we decided to focus on these workers to uplift possible inequalities they face in the research which then is often translated into the modern workforce. Then we saw multiple articles discussing skill mapping and the inherent biases and challenges that emerge when not done properly which then became our focus. We also wanted to ensure that capacity building would be possible as these skills continue to evolve. Supervisors and Managers could then create opportunities to build their organization.
What it does
That is how we decided to focus on creating a dashboard that tracks company desired skills over multiple years. A survey is used to collect employee, coworker, and supervisor responses to then have the averages be mapped through our dashboard. Various graphs exist to track both employee view and a supervisor view of the various skills and progression over time.
How we built it
A team member started by drawing out the imagined dashboard's interface to ensure that it is user friendly. A data base was crafted that was then ran through Google Colab so each separate dashboard could run separately securely. The code was then transferred to HTLM to format the dashboards to be more visually appealing. This final code was then brought to VS to run locally then pushed to grtihub.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the challenge of narrowing down what would be possible within the time as we had multiple ideas. Another challenges was that the group had diverse backgrounds both in academia and career which caused some members of the group to not be able to engage in all components. This became a strength as we started to incorporate each other's backgrounds and build each other's abilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the opportunities we gave each other to evolve and advance. The code was also well done and easily adaptable for company needs. We are also proud that the dashboard looks user friendly.
What we learned
We learned how to apply our different skill sets within the project to ensure everyone is represented. We came from organizational, evaluation, computer, sociology, and developmental. Each track is represented in some way within out project as we continued to adapt and evolve the final presentation.
What's next for Route 16 Dashboard
We want to expand the dashboard to more clearly flag biases. We also want to add cybersecurity to ensure that only the current title could see the right dashboard.
